From heat pipes to fins to fan, everything here is designed to deliver the best cooling. Heat pipes with HDC technology, widely spaced aluminum fins, and a PWM fan all work side by side to dissipate heat efficiently. Cooling is only part of the story. The SilverStone Argon Series AR01 also operates silently thanks to the fan’s aerodynamic design and anti-vibration rubber mounting.

Heat-pipe direct contact (HDC) technology
The three 8mm heat pipes with heat-pipe direct contact (HDC) technology connect directly to your CPU when installed for extremely efficient first-level heat conduction. Transfer more heat from your CPU for maximum computing performance.
Widely spaced aluminum fins
The three 8mm heat pipes pass through aluminum fins in U shape for maximum heat transfer from the heat pipes. The aluminum fins are widely spaced for unobstructed air circulation while the surface is T-shaped for better heat conduction.
Forced-air heat dissipation
The SilverStone Argon Series AR01 comes with a compact 120mm PWM fan for smart cooling. Cool aggressively at full loads and silently at low loads. Aerodynamic design allows for quieter operation.
Anti-vibration rubber mounting
The fan is offed anti-vibration rubber mounting not only for stable rotating but also for silent computing.
Universal compatibility
The SilverStone Argon Series AR01 is compatible with Intel Socket LGA775/115X/1366/2011 and AMD Socket AM2/AM3/FM1/FM2. Enjoy a system upgrade without the hassle of purchasing an extra CPU cooler.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't install on Asrock Z87

Pros: No pros

Cons: It doesn't install on an Asrock Z87 Killer LGA1150 motherboard because the motherboard has snap-in holes for the cooler and this cooler requires screws. The instruction manual has TINY type and is poorly written. I have to use the cooler that came with the I7 processor. Their website has minimal help. This sure sucks.

4 out of 5 eggsGood cooler

Pros: I like that the fan is blue call me biased. It does a good job cooling my FX-6300. Its overclocked to 4.3 @ 1.36v, at full load keeps it under 55c. Installation was simple once you read the instructions carefully. Fan rubber grommets are a plus.

Cons: Fan is loud at high rpm but i suppose most are.

4 out of 5 eggsCPU fan upgrade

Pros: The fan is very quiet. The rubber grommets on it are easily installed and it dissipates heat very efficiently!

Cons: the only thing i can complain about is that it has pretty terrible directions for low knowledge users, and no fan control software.

Other Thoughts: it is quite tall so if you're getting this be mindful of your space also it gets pretty wide so it sits touching the ram.

5 out of 5 eggsHuge Cooler

Pros: Building a new machine for my parents. Keeps the A10 APU at 31 degrees Cel.

Cons: No Cons

Other Thoughts: If you are getting this for an FM2/A-Series build, make sure you have at least a mid tower case. There is about a half inch of clearance between the sink and the side panel (for my build). I wasn't paying enough attention that it was 120mm. Also, make sure you mount the fan high enough on the sink so that it does not touch the ram dims.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: So glad I bought this cooler. It does an exceptional job at cooling a non overclocked FX-8320. Fan is inaudible. Prior to this I had only used stock clip on coolers so I thought install would be tricky, but it was a breeze and this sucker is on there secure! Overall I'm just really happy I chose this one.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: It is kinda big but just check your case dimensions to make sure it fits.

5 out of 5 eggsBig Bang for your Buck

Pros: Cost, PWM fan moves a lot of air, direct contact with pipes

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Installation was very straight forward. There are instructions that specify which holes to use (although I had it easy with an AM3+). It really is whisper quiet at low speeds and cycles down to about 1000 RPM according to HWMonitor. Under load the fan is very audible (I don't mind it at all).

The rubber fan mounts are very cool and feel solid.

I thought I'd try Silverstone after reading several reviews and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Using the AR01 to cool my first overclock has been a breeze and, though I'm sure the performance doesn't really approach a Noctua heat sink's, I really can't complain at 1/3 the cost.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than stock, cheaper than pro

Pros: Works a lot better than the stock heatsink in both thermal and acoustic performance. The fan is decently quiet at the lowest RPM my motherboard can bring it down to, which is one of the main reasons I even bother with aftermarket heatsinks.

Cons: As others have alluded to, the install isn't exactly like popping in the CPU or a new video card. Having done a number of these over the years I just resign myself to spending some time laying the parts out and kind of test-fitting the install before applying thermal grease and doing it for real. It's still nothing I would complain about though, at most the install is a mild irritation.

Other Thoughts: I did the install on an open bench. Would never attempt to install one of these ridiculous things with the mobo already in the case although I guess maybe in theory it's possible. None of these tower HSFs are much fun to install, but of the 4 or 5 I've done over the years, this one was by no means the hardest, but certainly not as easy as the old school heatsinks you just clipped on to existing HSF clamps from the mid 2000's. It seemed fair enough to me.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor packaging, parts lost

Pros: 1) Cost effective cooling solution
2) Seems well designed and well made.

Cons: 1) Instructions are unclear (hard to figure out which holes to use for Haswell)
2) Poor packaging, critical parts were missing

Other Thoughts: After much research I decided to give Silverstone coolers a try. I opened the box, and discovered that the plastic bag that contained ALL of the parts had broken open. This may have been a problem with shipping, or that the metal parts included in the bag poked a hole in in.

Regardless, there are 4 insulating grommets that are critical to prevent the metal bracket from having direct contact with the motherboard (and thus, your CPU). One was missing. They only included 4, no extras. So, the $1800 worth of computer parts are now made useless due to the lack of a $0.05 grommet.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Performance but not for Hardcore Overclocking

Pros: The cooler is well secured. Heatsink surface is smooth.

The cooler managed to keep my i5 4670k@4.5GHz below 75 degrees during benchmarking.

In BIOS, I set fan speed to be 30% when the core temperature is below 70 degrees. Most of the time, the fan is running at 30% and ambient noise covers the fan's noise.

Cons: Like other users said, the backplate is hard to install as holes on the plate was not indicated. I needed to guess which mounting holes I should use.

Silverstone, you've been told. Mark the holes please.

I managed to overclock my 4650k all the way up to 4875MHz; however, the AR01 couldn't keep up. Even when the fan was set to be running at full speed, my CPU kept hitting the 95 degress mark and I had to stop benchmarking.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very solid mount, great temperatures. The rubber fan mounting system works very well. Fantastic bang for buck.

Cons: The backplate is a little hard to position since the holes aren't marked for socket type, but once you figure it out the rest of the installation is very simple.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ with one of these to cool my 2500k at 4.4GHz. The AR01 is lighter, simpler, and gives me better temperatures. My temps don't break 70C during prime 95 testing. Highly recommended for a budget cooler.
