The ultimate in airflow to noise ratio, iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans are the only fans in the industry to be designed with silence and optimal airflow in mind. A smaller, domed motor hub with a larger, more dramatic fan blade sweep area, no other fans on the market come even close in performance! There might be fans that offer more airflow or lower noise levels, but when it comes to a balance between the two, these fans can't be beat. Available in three colors: green, blue and red.

  • newegg Forward Sweep Fan Blades The exotic fan blade design has nearly twice the surface area per fin than most conventional fans, allowing far more air to be pushed per revolution than fans without the unique forward sweep blade design.
  • newegg Smaller Domed Motor Shape iXtrema Pro Quiet Fans feature a motor size smaller than other fans, maximizing the lateral area to facilitate airflow movement. Not only is this dead space reduced, a domed top allows for better aerodynamics and therefore, reduced air turbulence.
  • newegg Hybrid Motor Bearing System Ball bearings are prone to vibration causing too much noise. Sleeve bearings have a short lifespan. With the use of harder materials for the bearings and larger lubricant capacity, longer life and minimal vibration can be achieved.
  • newegg Silicone Vibration Dampeners Use the included silicone vibration dampening mounts to minimize vibration even further. By utilizing the mounts, vibration from the fan will not be transmitted to the casing, thereby preventing unwanted “rattling” noise from the case.
  • newegg Red LED Red LED provides brilliant illumination while the fan is in operation for eye-catching fun.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Red glow is pretty.

Cons: I bought three of these and installed in my desktop. Within six months all three were making grinding noises. Garbage.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh failure rate, but worth it

Pros: These fans are very quiet and do, in fact, move a lot of air. When they were working they were terrific.

Cons: I bought two fans for a new computer in Jan 2009. They both worked flawlessly for two and a half years, then the silicon mounts for one fan failed and the other fan simply froze up solid.

Other Thoughts: Even with the faults above, I'm going to buy two more. I figure the low noise and high cooling are worth it to me to shell out twelve bucks every couple of years to replace them.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat at first, degrade over time

Pros: - Look very nice
- Very quiet ... in the beginning
- Theoretically a great fan design

Cons: - After about 9 months or so (can't remember exactly when), these fans seem to "lose balance", and start wavering between normal "silence" mode and making a temporary awful racket. Over time this process gets progressively worse and more common. I own 2 of these and it's happened with both, so either I'm unlucky or long-term quality is simply not here with these fans. I also own 2 Rosewill RFA-80-RL red LED fans (also available from NewEgg), which I've owned for many years longer, and neither of the Rosewill fans have given my any sort of issue at all (though they are louder than these SilenX fans, when these are working properly). It's gotten to the point where one of my two SilenX fans is in permanent noise mode, the other wavers about 50/50 between the two states. I need to buy two more of the Rosewill's to replace these two noise-makers.
- Price, given the above

Other Thoughts: These are great fans when you first start using them, but after a time they start to rattle and shake periodically, getting progressively worse over time. I've re-lubed the internals, thinking it might have been a friction issue, but this doesn't help at all. It's more a balance issue, which just seems to degrade over time, until they no longer rotate "in the round" anymore, and start making an awful racket, getting worse and worse. Terrible buzzing noise.

From new until they start to degrade, I give these 5 stars. After they start self-disintegrating, 2 stars. And only 2 because they still move air. Believe me you wouldn't want to listen to them in this state. But if you needed a fan that still technically worked in a room people weren't working in, they do still move air. So 2 stars.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Results!

Pros: Impressively quiet!
Puts out decent air.
LED lights for those who like style.
Includes screws, rubber anti-vibration mounts, and molex to fan adapter.

Cons: Not this time.
I just pray that this good performance lasts for years.

Other Thoughts: This is the most silent 80mm fan I've found! I liked it so well, that I bought a second one. My story is this: I'm building a high-performance rackmount i7 machine for my home based music studio - so naturally I want minimal noise, while still requiring good cooling. I ended up buying about 30 different fans of various brands, sizes, and speeds from the Egg, and trying each first hand, to pick the best performers. I have two of the scythe 4-channel fan controllers to control the speed of each fan. I did not like the other Silenx offerings, as their bearings made high-pitched ratcheting noises, even though the air flow itself was inaudible. This particular fan, however, is flawless. I think that it is near absolute perfection in terms of optimal geometry of an 80mm format. And the bearing functions smoothly, without ratcheting. I am running two of these at their full speeds, and they hardly add any noise to my whispering system. They also put out a decent volume of air for such silence.
