5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan, silent!

Pros: There's a long list of pro's for this fan. First off is the fact that it is a very, very quiet fan. I bought this fan because the bearings in my other fan went out and I decided I would like to go as quiet as possible. Well, I chose correctly. VERY quiet fan. Secondly, the fact that it is a VARIABLE fan and ONLY RUNS WHEN IT NEEDS TO. Most people who have written reviews are not smarter than the equipment they are working with. Read the title of this product: It is a VARIABLE fan. That means it spins when it needs to. That is why the thermostat is attached with the fan (yes, it's that long wire with the black tip). People assume the fan is not working since it doesn't immediately start. It's not suppose to. Also, comes with silicon screws to reduce any vibrations! They work wonderfully. I'm running out of room but there are many pro's for this fan. I absolutely love it and will use SilenX forever!

Cons: No cons what so ever. I've read in other reviews people say the life expectancy of this fan is only two years or so. Well, luckily the fan only costs 10 dollars and is possibly the cheapest part you will ever buy for a computer. Also, other fans will continue after two years but their bearings will go out and they won't work nearly as well and will make a lot of noise. So the life expectancy of these fans is no different than other fans. Only difference is these fans come with a 3 year warranty.. so you can do the math.

NO CONS! Absolutely wonderful fan!

Other Thoughts: I just wish everyone would educate themselves before leaving inaccurate reviews. These fans are great, some of the best I've ever used and I build at least 2 computers a year just for myself so I've used lots of different fans.

It is NOT suppose to spin right when you turn your computer on. It's a variable fan and spins when it needs to.

4 out of 5 eggsSuper quiet, good airflow. Long lasting--not so much

Pros: Super quiet. The quietest 80mm fan I have ever owned. Good airflow for the fan size and noise level.

Cons: I bought two of the non-thermistor version of this fan (IXP5414). They both failed in 2 years. One completely stopped turning. The other developed a loud wobble/vibration sound. They supposedly have a 3 year warranty, but it seems like it would be cheaper, faster and easier to buy new fans with free shipping rather than pay to ship the failed units back.

Other Thoughts: My review is for the non-thermistor version.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat? It's running?

Pros: Excellent chassis fan. Whisper quiet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Those who said that the fan needs "help" to start running are missing the point. These fans have a thermostat sensor that will sping the fan up when needed. If the fan isn't spinning immediately, well, that just means that the temperature isn't at a level where it needs to be running. Smart feature.

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet Please!

Pros: These fans make the least amount of noise out of all that I have tried. I also like the fact that they have the ability to speed up or slow down as needed on thier own.

Cons: While I continue to use these fans because of their noise factors, I know that I will need to replace them in a year or two. I have been using SilenX's fans for about 4 years now so I know that they will go bad within less than two years.

Other Thoughts: If they could somehow increase the reliability of this product I am sure that everyone in the world would use them.

1 out of 5 eggsYou have to crank it up!

Pros: Quiet....

Cons: It doesn't always spin up. Sometimes you have to crank it with your finger before it'll start up. This isn't a car from early 1900's!!!

Other Thoughts: The specs looks very nice, but none of it matters if it doesn't work!

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: Very very quiet with good air flow. I bought two fo these to replace my system fans. The variable speed is controlled by a temperature sensor and with the temperature sensor hanging next to the fan it's speed varied, according to the MOBO, from 1700 to 2200 rpms (specs state that rpms range from 1000 to 1700).

Cons: I did notice that it takes longer to cool the system off after playing games. It seems like the fans are decreasing in rpm prematurely.

Other Thoughts: Maybe if I hang the temp sensor next to the MOBO's heat sink it will improve system cool down time.

4 out of 5 eggsquiet

Pros: very very quiet, you can only hear a slight clicking if you put it next to your ear. otherwise silent.

Cons: not really as much airflow as i was hoping for.

Other Thoughts: in hind sight i would have went with the regular model w/o the temp sensor. it was an impulse decision at a b&m store. i have 2 of these in an htpc. they are very silent but wish my system was a little cooler. probably wouldn't hear them at full power so no reason to get variable model

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fan

Pros: Quiet, variable speed. Silicone mounts, screws, 3-to-4 pin adapter included.

Cons: Would like a notch on both sides of the case for routing the wire leads.

Other Thoughts: Does not "cold start" when you first plug it in. Have seen where some think that means it defective. Just needs to adjust. Here's a tip: hold the black tip of the tempature probe between your fingers and voila it runs.
