A universal mounting bracket supports the widest range of current AMD and Intel sockets, including the latest multicore Phenom and i3/i5 processors.

SilentX has included an Effizio 92mm fan with 3rd generation fluid dynamic bearings for years of reliable performance and no need to purchase any additional fans. The installation process is easy with a typical install time of under 10 minutes and does not require the removal of the motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: light, "low profile"

Cons: Well...the negative reviews were true: I couldn't get the assembly out of the box without mashing some of the heatsink fins to the point that they made contact with the fan. I used very light pressure. The only way to pick it up seems to be by the blades of the fan itself. Additionally, the sink fins hang over the closest memory bank of my motherboard (MSI A55M-E35). I think the RAM modules would still fit if I placed them before the heatsink, but that will never happen. ...

Other Thoughts: comically, this "low profile" cpu cooler is 1.5x-2x LARGER footprint than the stock cpu cooler (AMD A8-5500 Trinity Quad-Core 3.2GHz AD5500OKHJBOX), and the vertical difference is negligible. I'll never know if the silenx fan is as wonderfully quiet as reviews have stated. I trust that it is. I don't care.

it's possible to bend the fins back so that they don't interfere with the fan, but they look awkward at that point and, as I never got to mounting the thing, I've no idea what effect, if any, it has on performance/sound.

the 2 eggs is because I believe it's quiet. the deductions are for flimsy design and overlarge diameter heat sink on a cooler specifically designed for HTPCs (e.g., mircoATX and other space cramped applications).

3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Any noise it makes is not noticeable inside the case.
Solid install feels very secure- too secure.
Comes with multiple pegs, a mount and some thermal gel. The thermal gel comes in a small, plastic baggie.

Cons: The fins are incredibly flimsy. To the point of if you hold them (as they are the majority of the surface) you WILL bend them. Install Carefully.

The unit has a very, very rigid bracket that mounts to the stock AM3+ socket. I installed it while it was placed on a static mount flat on a table, no flex- and I was still kinda scared I was going to break the board with the pressure I had to apply to get it seated.

As the title states, you do get what you pay for. Don't know what I expected out of this unit, but I think I'll be using my stock heatsink that came with my CPU until I can get a better quality cooler.

Other Thoughts: Brand new PC build featuring an AMD FX-4130 Zambezi 3.8GHz Socket AM3+ Quad-Core Desktop Processor - the CPU runs at about 50-55 degrees Celsius under this cooler and no load. This can easily jump to upwards or 65+ under a basic load and gets pretty warm while running any more demanding games.

This was under stock conditions- but the ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ that I bought to pair it with comes with some pretty robust OC features, and I chose to bump the CPU up to 4.2 with the basic OC utility, which the board claims to be a relatively stable and safe clock. The temps remained pretty much the same with the OC enabled.

2 out of 5 eggsNo any better than the OEM

Pros: It fits, easy installation, and comes with grease...

Cons: Won't cool any better than the one AMD sent with the processor.

Other Thoughts: Fins are realyl thin and will need straightening after installation.

Cons: loud, not power managed, no speed control through hardware or software.

Other Thoughts: 3 pin not 4 pin.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent budget heatsink.

Pros: With the stock heatsink installed on an AMD Llano 2.7 GHz Unlocked Quad Core APU the temperatures in idle were around 20 Celsius and under heavy load at 55.
After installing this heatsink and sealing with some Arctic Silver 5 paste temps at idle were around 15 Celsius and around 45 under heavy load.

Cons: I wouldn't recommend this heatsink for overclockers or for CPUs clocked above 3.5 GHz as the temps can get pretty high at that rate.

4 out of 5 eggsNot for AMD Quad Core Phenom CPUs

Pros: This is a very quiet fan. It's easy to install on an AM3 Motherboard. CPU Thermal paste is included in case you don't have some on-hand. The low price makes it a good deal if you're looking to cool an AMD CPU with 65W or lower power consumption.

Cons: I should have read the product description more closely before buying this item. They really mean it when they say "...for those with more moderate cooling needs".

This heatsink/fan is definitely not meant for a quad-core AMD Phenom processor. When idle (i.e. in the BIOS Setup screen), the CPU temperature quickly climbed to over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. By comparison, the stock AMD heatsink/fan keeps the idle temperature below 130 degrees.

Other Thoughts: The fan power connector is 3-pin, not 4-pin. The aluminum fins a easy to bend, so use caution while installing this item.
