StarTech FANK8AM2 92mm Ever Lubricate Universal AMD 64-bit CPU Cooler

Small cases need extra cooling due to restricted and obstructed airflow. StarTech's FANK8AM2 is designed to fit into the tightest spaces and provide maximum cooling for the CPU and other components. The 2600RPM 92mm ever-lubricating bearing fan moves a respectable 47.2CFM of air while operating at only 28dBA.

The fan draws air over an aluminum heatsink for optimized heat dissipation. A TX3 connector plugs directly into the motherboard to provide power to the fan as well as allowing the system to monitor and control the fan's speed and operational status and reduce the fan's speed during off-peak usage.

The FANK8AM2 supports the latest AMD socket AM2 dual core processors in addition to other processors in the K8 family. It is extremely compact, with the width being the same 92mm as the fan and only 25mm or a little over 2”" in height – enabling it to fit into the tightest of spaces.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The StarTech FANK8AM2 features an all aluminum heatsink for maximized heat dissipation, and a 92mm Ever Lubricate bearing fan for optimal cooling performance.
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed With a 3-pin connector, the StarTech FANK8AM2 supports fan speed monitoring so you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.

4 out of 5 eggssmall but somewhat loud

Pros: i needed a small fan to fit in this case and it is a small size. it seems to keep my cpu at a decent temperature of 46°C. solid build.

Cons: a little noisy, clip a little fidgety.

Other Thoughts: does the job in small quarters but for my desktop i'd like it quieter.

4 out of 5 eggs1 dead; 1 alive

Pros: Low profile. Lots of airflow. Pretty quiet given the high volume of airflow, 47.2 CFM. Better than stock AMD fan when using smaller/thinner cases. Fair price. Newegg's supersonic shipping.

Cons: Would be nice if it was a little lower than 2.17 inches; an even 2 inches would be even better. Possible high failure rate.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these to use in Dell Dimension 2100 cases into which I was installing AMD socket AM2 motherboards, and it just fit underneath the power supply. I would have given it 5 eggs, but one of the fans was DOA. C'mon Star Tech, it's a fan, not exactly a high tech device like a processor or a motherboard. If companies can make complex circuit boards with limited problems, a fan should be as easy as pie. 50% is an unacceptable failure rate.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but loud

Pros: Respectable cooling performance, short height makes it easy to fit in a cramped case, easy installation, price.

Cons: Loud at almost all voltages, no way it's 28dba at full tilt, closer to 35-40 to my ears. Fan whines all the way down to 1500rpm.

Other Thoughts: This would be a great basic heatsink for an SFF case if they'd just put a better fan on it. As it is the noise is practically unbearable unless you throttle it to 5-6V. Fan replacement might be an option, but if you're doing that, you might as well get a more expensive heatsink altogether.

3 out of 5 eggsIt spins...

Pros: Looks cooler than it is...

Cons: The fan is a decent fan but the core and CPU temps on the 5000+ BE I built are still higher than a stock fan...

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive for the price

Pros: I stuck this on my AMD 5000+ Black Edition which is overclocked to 3.0ghz and have had no problems. It runs a little warm in the case I am using (small case), but I hasn't crashed or overheated at all even playing games for long periods of time.

Cons: None really, it does what it should, works better than I thought, and doesn't have a horrible array of LEDs.

Other Thoughts: For the price I would suggest giving it a try before buying a more expensive heatsink.

5 out of 5 eggsSexy

Pros: This product is awesome for it's price. Keeps my 5000+ Black ed. at ~32 degrees C while playing Crysis (very demanding game). very good for 11$ :) EZ install, hooks right on to the stock AM2 mount. It's pretty quiet as well

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This fan shipped in 2 days. That's extreme :) I'm used to at least a week
