Xigmatek's European design team is dedicated to becoming a world leader in CPU thermal cooling by producing reliable, efficient and environmentally sound cooling systems. They don't cut corners with their products to deliver on their promise and the HDT-S1283 is no exception.
Designed to attach easily to the motherboard of all Intel Socket 775 and AMD Socket AM2, 754, 939 and 940 CPUs, the HDT-S1283 is ready to go right out of the box. No tools are required, nor is removal of the motherboard, thanks to its light weight and anti-vibration technology. Three large, liquid-filled, U-shaped 8mm pure copper heat pipes directly touch the heatspreader of the CPU for maximum transference of damaging heat away from the processor and up to the aluminum convection fins.
The heatsink is cooled by the 120mm fan mounted on the side of the array which blows nearly 100 CFM of cooling air at its maximum 1500 RPM. Its support for PWM lets the BIOS control the speed of the fan based on the CPU's thermal needs – lowering the fans speed and noise during off-peak cycles. A spoiler on the back side of the cooling array diverts air to cool components around the CPU as well.

Great cooler
- Pros: The build is very solid and the Intel mounting system is pretty easy to use. As another reviewer said, the fan mounts are a little bit of a pain but very effective. This cooler is very cool and at 600g, I am not worried about weight like I would be with other coolers.
- Cons: It is too large for some cases.
- Other Thoughts: I have this on my E8400 in an Antec 900 case.
Excellent choice if not Liquid cooling and wanting to OC
- Pros: No motherboard removal required, although if you have a removable motherboard tray I would suggest mounting this out side of the case.
Cost effective
Installation tips: For Intel LGA775 -- mount the LGA push-pin brackets with the included screws [1 per bracket] to heat sink base.
Before mounting to the motherboard make sure the push pins are set properly -- analyze how they work by locking one and releasing it. Releasing the push pin is done easiest by use of a flat head screw driver.
Refer to this article for applying thermal paste properly: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=170&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=5
Mounting the fan requires securing it to the heat sink with anti-vibration rubber pins. !!Use needle nose pliers to pull them through! Either mount to the heat sink first, then install on mobo and then mount fan last! Or install on fan, install on heat sink, remove fan, install heat sink on mobo then install fan last!
- Cons: Poor instructions -- refer to above for tips to make installation a breeze! Remember the heat sink has to be install without the fan on Intel LGA775 in order to secure all push pins!
- Other Thoughts: Great price, great cooling, excellent value over all! You can overclock and gain performance without spending 4-8 times the cost of a Liquid Cooling System

Big Cooler does the Job
- Pros: Installation a snap on 939 Socket - Took less than 5 minutes. Spent more time admiring the thing than it took to install. Cooled CPU almost 20 degrees instantly. Stock fan that came with processor was running hot on Opteron 165 Dual Core
- Cons: It's big. Not an issue with my case but if space is concern I would look to another cooler.
Best After Market for the price
- Pros: I love this thing. I can have it mounted in my case, barely hear it, but still know it's doing it's job. The rubber hooks for the fan are nice for silencing and It is easy to install.
- Cons: I suggest you have patients and a big "full tower" case because this is really tall and with my Lian Li PC-P80 nearly touches the side panel.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to get away from those flimsy intel clips, i suggest buying the 15 dollar mounting bracket kit. Its worth the price.
Way more than enough
- Pros: Quiet, ridiculously good cooling.
- Cons: Too large for my case. I had to move my case fan to the /outside/ of the case to get this monster to fit. (SIGMA ZEN ZEN-WDP diamond pink SECC Steel ATX)~~ I would've been better off just using the factory processor fan, since I couldn't unlock extra cores w/ AMD Phenom II X2 550 and have no need to OC.
- Other Thoughts: At least it looks crazy and is funny with a case fan sitting outside the case!
