Xigmatek's European design team is dedicated to becoming a world leader in CPU thermal cooling by producing reliable, efficient and environmentally sound cooling systems. They don't cut corners with their products to deliver on their promise and the HDT-S1283 is no exception.
Designed to attach easily to the motherboard of all Intel Socket 775 and AMD Socket AM2, 754, 939 and 940 CPUs, the HDT-S1283 is ready to go right out of the box. No tools are required, nor is removal of the motherboard, thanks to its light weight and anti-vibration technology. Three large, liquid-filled, U-shaped 8mm pure copper heat pipes directly touch the heatspreader of the CPU for maximum transference of damaging heat away from the processor and up to the aluminum convection fins.
The heatsink is cooled by the 120mm fan mounted on the side of the array which blows nearly 100 CFM of cooling air at its maximum 1500 RPM. Its support for PWM lets the BIOS control the speed of the fan based on the CPU's thermal needs – lowering the fans speed and noise during off-peak cycles. A spoiler on the back side of the cooling array diverts air to cool components around the CPU as well.

Great cooler
- Pros: The build is very solid and the Intel mounting system is pretty easy to use. As another reviewer said, the fan mounts are a little bit of a pain but very effective. This cooler is very cool and at 600g, I am not worried about weight like I would be with other coolers.
- Cons: It is too large for some cases.
- Other Thoughts: I have this on my E8400 in an Antec 900 case.
- Pros: Excellent cooling!
32c idle, 50c prime95 load quad core 3360mhz with 1680fsb.
- Cons: Push pins suck, rather have screws. Very large but thats to be expected.
- Other Thoughts: Fits on ASUS maximus formula, clears heatsinks around the cpu by half inch or so.

Terrific Improvement
- Pros: i5-750 Full Load
Stock Cooler 80C Xigmatek 41C Idle Stock ~30C Xigmatek ~25C
Quiet Definitely buy again
- Cons: Push pins
Included silicone thermal paste - shouldn't be used on copper
- Other Thoughts: Fan speed seems fairly irrelevant at stock settings.
Apply the thermal paste in strips along the copper heat pipes
The stock cooler is certainly performing worse than normal in my case - probably due to insufficient thermal paste.
Buy the ACK-I7361 or I5361 to eliminate the push-pins and add Socket 1156/1366 compatibility.
Be aware that Socket 1156/1366 motherboards with Socket 775 compatibility only have the holes in the same location as a standard 775 Mobo - the CPU socket mounting is different - the Socket 775 does not have a backplate, while both the 1156 and 1366 do, which can cause interference with the support bracket provided by the add-on kits.
When installing with the add-on kit (ACK-I7361 and I5361)- add the fan after the heatsink is bolted on, otherwise its extremely difficult to push the sprung bolts down.
Pull the rubber fan mounts through the fan holes with needle nose pliers. Also install the motherboard in the case after bolting down the heatsink and
Good product
- Pros: Large surface area and FAN. Quiet operation. Rated excellent for heat dissipation so I've heard.
- Cons: Rubber fan mounts and the fan itself are difficult to install and must be done after the sink is installed on the CPU. Base looks like it was ground flat on a belt sander which is good. However, the surface finish is rough so definitely needs the thermal grease to fill in the grooves. Surface finish could be smoother. Very large. Check case width to make sure it will fit first.
- Other Thoughts: Bought for my corei7 920 processor with the ACK-I7361 bracket. Seems to work well and allows for my future overclocking. I had to mount it with the fan axis horizontal as it would not clear one of the mainboard heat sinks (voltage regulator?) on my evga 132-BL-E758-A1. However the fins could be modified to fit if needed. The position works well for me, however.
First-Time Over-Clocker
- Pros: I bought this to overclock an aging P5B-E with an E6600. The stock Intel heatsink topped off at 60C when stress-tested. The Xigmatek, when tested with identical settings, topped off at 42C.
The 120mm fan also fits nicely in my Antec P182 case, I bought it specifically for 120mm, quiet fans.
- Cons: Make sure you have room in your case. My P182 case is very large as cases go, and I was worried for a few moments until I confirmed it would fit. Also, it will matter how your motherboard components are arranged, it was a tighter fit than I expected.
Two of the latches on the fan side of the fins were very difficult to get at and secure. I had to remove my video card, some RAM, and then use a screw-driver to press down where my fingers couldn't fit (carefully!).
- Other Thoughts: I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, and my case has very good air-throughput. Three pre-existing 120mm (though one is just for the power supply) fans, and I arranged the heatsink fan to compliment the case airflow.
Current overclock: E6600 2.4Ghz @ 3.4Ghz, 1.4625VCore running stable at 59C with Prime95's max-heat torture test. My home's air temp is right around 70F.
I may be backing this off to 3.2Ghz as the thermal limit on E6600's is 60.1C, but it's a perfect reference for seeing this heatsink's ability. I'm going to see what temps are with normal use and only back it down if they remain consistently over 55-57C while playing games.
Temperatures listed as shown by CPUID Hardware Monitor (freeware), voltage listed is as I set it in the BIOS.
