OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Xigmatek strives to create reliable, earth-friendly, efficient thermal solutions. Their HDT-RS1283 provides cutting edge technology with a bargain price – and it looks good doing it. Known as the Red Scorpion, this heat sink and fan combination cuts no corners in its design and styling.

The breakthrough HDT , or Heatpipe Direct Touch technology ensures maximum thermal transference. The heatpipes that are in direct contact with the CPU instead of being buried within a base. These 3 large U-shaped 8mm pure copper sealed tubes contain fluid which moves the heat upward into the array of large-surface area aluminum convection fins.

Aside from the fan and the aluminum fins, the entire unit is nickel-plated. Four white LEDs within the 120mm fan provide an extra touch of styling when its under power. At its maximum 1500RPM speed, the fan produces over 61 CFM of cooling airflow at 20.6 dBA. PWM support lets the system BIOS reduce the speed – and even this low noise level – during periods of lower thermal demand. The Red Scorpion features tool-less application to support a wide variety of processors whether they are Intel Socket LGA 775 or AMD CPUs using Socket AM2, 754, 939 or 940 configurations.

Very nice temps

Pros: Awesome temps on my e8400 18c-21c idle. Hasn't went above 40c-50c during gaming. This does mount on the DK P35-T2RS horizontally.
Cons: Mounting is not that great
Other Thoughts: System temp stays around 31c probally another factor in the low temps

Pros: Excellent cooling. Attractive fan. Easy install.
Cons: Fan could be quieter.
Other Thoughts: This fit inside my Antec Sonata case with no problems. Also fit easily onto the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L motherboard in a vertical orientation so that the fan blows through the fins and directly out the back case fan. I used the included fan on the back of my case where it could be seen and have it running at a quiet 800 rpms. For the heatsink I mounted a Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan and let the motherboard auto fan control handle the speeds. I have it on an Intel e8400 over-clocked by 20%. At idle it runs with fan speed at a mere 420 rpm and keeps the chip at 40c (using Real Temp). Under stress testing the chip maxes out at 53c with fan only up to around 700rpm by that point. I used Arctic Silver 5.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Looks great, and dropped my overly hot Q9550 from 70c @1.15 v and 80c @ 1.30 ( at idle ). To 49c @ 1.30v and never kicked up fan higher after 2 hrs of cod mw 2 ( bios for fan at 100% @70c ) Was hearing fans at 100% all the time before. Was easy to install. Make sure to buy the back plate Xigmatek # ack-i5361rt for proper mounting to motherboard. I snaked mine in by loosening motherboard and slipping it behind into place.
Cons: A little hard to slide rubber mount for fan in place on northbridge side, but hey what do you expect its BIG. Oh and it should come with the back plate.

ok for intel Great for AMD

Pros: I currently has this installed on a Phenom II x4 940, running at 25-34 degrees C. The stock cooler was running at 40-50C. A huge improvement for a couple of dollars. I'm not a fan of the pins that were designed for a LGA 775 socket. The mounting bar for the AM2,2+ or 3 is significantly better than the Intel solution.

I've seen great improvements for a couple of dollars with this cooler.
Cons: LARGE! The dimensions on this cooler should be noted before buying it. You need to make sure you're going to have clearance above and around. It is very close to being too large in my antec 900 v1 case.

As long as you're careful and research the part. This is a great cooler

Nightmare installation, but great cooling

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: - VERY Quiet fan
- PWM fan will automatically adjust speed as needed
- Keeps my Q9550 to a 8 degree (Celsius) rise under load. Fan speeds and noise barely rise under load as well.
- white LED lights look nice
Cons: - The heatsink does not come in an immediately usable state. The protective material on the bottom has a really sticky adhesive that will stay on the heatsink.
- Even after dissolving and cleaning the adhesive with acetone and rubbing alcohol and kerosene, the surface is still very rough. I had to spend a lot of time lapping the bottom of the heatsink to a usable state
- Installation is rough with the fan installed prior to pushing in the LGA775 push-in clips. My hands look like I was attacked by cats. Tip: Don't install the fan until after clipping the HSF on, or do it with the mobo removed from the case.
Other Thoughts: It's a great heatsink for my Q9550 CPU, I imagine I will be able to overclock a lot with it. However, don't be fooled by the lower-than-average price. It's not a bargain; it means you will have to do the finishing touches yourself. Adding on sandpaper for lapping and a backplate mounting kit if you choose to go for that make the total cost about equal to or even more than other similar heatsinks.

Also, have some band-aids ready when you install this.
