Sweetness!
- Pros: More effective than I thought it would be. Used for my eVGA 8800GT. DROPPED IDLE TEMPS DOWN 15 degrees C !!! WOW. - Stock fans, easily replaced if one of them fails.
- Cons: Newegg is currently out of stock on this, and probly won't get any more. :( That's the only con. I broke one of the small hex screws on installation, but that's my fault; though they aren't very sturdy, but still my fault.
- Other Thoughts: I installed a PCI slot after-market fan controller, and used "Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound" for the GPU chip instead of the stock thermal paste it came with... I purchased this item from another retailer, since the other items I was ordering, newegg.com doesn't carry. Newegg does have awesome service though. I spoke to a rep for Xigmatek, and this item, the VD964 is being "phased out", so newegg may not get more. If you have an 8800GT or another compatiable VGA card, I recomend finding this cooler, I love it. Just be more careful with the hardware when installing than I was... :)
Did not fit due to motherboard
- Pros: None What So ever
- Cons: Didn't fit my setup due too it blocking all my sata ports on my motherboard (p35 ds3l)
- Other Thoughts: Ordered a vf900 to try on my 4850 , this thing is just way too huge and has compatibility with certain cards and motherboards.
Fantastic for G80
- Pros: MUCH quieter than stock, and a bit better cooling. The ability to swap the fans is nice, as is the ability to hook it up to a fan controller. Dropped the temps on my 8800GTX to 62 under full load - a full 8 degrees lower than the stock cooler. Given the age of the card (and thus scarcity of effective aftermarket parts for cheap) you can't go wrong with this cooler.
- Cons: Given the design and my previous experience with HDT coolers, I expected the cooler to work a little better. For the price, it's not worth dropping an egg though.
- Other Thoughts: If you have a GPU with an IHS like the G80s do, this is the cooler for you. For your exposed core GPUs, it'll work but all 4 heatpipes won't hit
When I installed the ramsinks, I used a hair dryer to warm up the thermal tape so they'd adhere better. I placed the ramsinks on, hit them with the hot air, and then let them cool down before turning the hair dryer on them again. I've had no trouble from the ramsinks in 3 weeks' worth of power cycling.
