OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Xigmatek strives to create reliable, earth-friendly, efficient thermal solutions. Their HDT-D1284 provides cutting edge technology with a bargain price. It features 4 large exposed 8mm pure copper heatpipes at its base which directly contact the CPU for highly efficient thermal transference. These S-shaped tubes arch up to support a horizontal array of lightweight aluminum convection fins.

Over 56 CFM of cooling air is blown downward through this array by the 120mm rifle bearing fan mounted at the top. The shape of the fins is designed to increase airflow across and around the fins. Anti-vibration rubber pads reduce noise levels by isolating the fan's movement from the array. PWM functionality further reduces noise levels by letting the system's BIOS monitor thermal need as well as the fan's performance and reducing its speed – and noise level – during periods of low demand

Designed for long, reliable service on a wide variety of processors, the HDT-D1284 utilizes a push-pin or tool-less clip installation to support Intel Socket LGA775 CPUs as well as AMD chips utilizing AM2, 754, 939 or 940 form factors.

pretty good actually

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Massive (great heat dispersion), very quiet, cheap and allows me to overclock easily. The AMD clip that come with it fits very tight on the AM2 socket. Fits better than the thermaltake V1 did.
Cons: Massive (I have big hands, the AMD clip was a pain in the... to install).
Other Thoughts: Unlike some of the other reviews, this thing worked right out of the box. I used arctic 5 silver compound insteaded of the grease though. With the stock cooler I was seeing an idle temp of 46c-47c and with prime95 I would reach 75c quickly. With this cooler I'm getting 31c idle and barely 50c running Prime95 for hours. Great cooler for the price.

Pros: Does its job of cooling the CPU very well. Good value. Top-down blowing helps to cool the other components on the motherboard. Fan attached with rubber vibration isolators.
Cons: Massive, though somewhat less massive than some big heat sinks.

Excellent Product

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Designed to by pass the vexing problems with AMD mobo's namely blocking memory modules. (I actually prefer this to the Dark Knight). Good cooling also depends on your case, case without good airflow, clunky power supply with too many cables=useless.
Cons: Serious pain to clamp down, very stiff but stable
Other Thoughts: I use a Antec 1200 (if your looking to build a gaming unit you can stop at this one) with a full load of fans, one for the graphics unit, and one for the CPU, so all together I can get hyper cooling. 2x 4670 idle at 27c and under full load may touch 36c. AMD 9950 idle at 32c under full load 38c. So it's all about having an smart combination of case, psu, heat sink. Any serious individual will come to the same conclusion.

Not Good with phenom 2

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It worked great on my 6000+ X2 as stated in my earlier post (AMD Fanboy). The problem know is that I have upgraded to a Phenom 2.
Cons: Does not cool a phenom 2 940 at all.
Other Thoughts: Idle is great at 33 c, but 2-3 minutes on prime95 and temps hi 70 c and alarms sound. I gets three stars because it does work, just not for the higher wattage cpus (125+).

A disappointment

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: For a large heatsink, relatively straightforward to install.
Cons: This CPU cooler did not adequately cool a Core i7 940 (installed with a Xigmatek backplate for LGA 1366). The lengths of the four copper heatpipes between the CPU contact and the fins are quite large, and I suspect that prevents adequate heat transfer.
Other Thoughts: The problem was probably an over expectation on my part about the capability of this cooler. I'm keeping it for later use with a different system.
