3 out of 5 eggsAdhesive problems

Pros: Obviously this is a must as you can read any other review here that explains how this bracket makes installing the xigmatek heat sinks a breeze. I would still buy this product again even though It has issues... read cons....

Cons: The adhesive on the retention bracket is FAR TOO STRONG.

Ever try removing one of these? (mobo died) Well your in for a surprise!

You can try pulling and pulling it wont come off! I finally figured a way to get it off without breaking the PCB in half. If you twist it instead of pulling it it will come off. But...

Guess what? The adhesive still didnt give.. the foam piece between the adhesive ripped in half. Yep...rather impressive. So then I had to scrape the back of the mobo with my fingernail for about an hour to get the rest of the foam/adhesive off the back. And there was still adhesive residue left when I stopped. You then have to do the same thing with the retention bracket. Although you can be a little rougher with it than a PCB.

Solution? Call xigmatek they will send you a new one if yours met the same death as mine. OR get some screen door weatherstripping (cheap) (AND NOT REDICULOUSLY STICKY) and replace the stock adhesive foam before you install it.

Other Thoughts: Contacted xigmatek and they sent me a replacement. Apparently these are meant to be installed once! and only once! Forget transferring to a new mobo.

If your comes off easier, your lucky. I must have had my heatsink on really tight. If you do get xigmatek to replace your busted bracket you can revive your old one with some weatherstripping like I did.

5 out of 5 eggsGet it.

Pros: Great bracket. So easy to install. Uses a 7/32 inch socket for mounting screws or can use standard screwdriver. Much better than plastic push pins.

Cons: Should come standard with S-1283.

Other Thoughts: Mounted onto Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P MB with no problems. You have to pull a piece of wax paper off the sticky surface then push it onto the back of the motherboard. I just peeled off the corners of the wax paper (using exacto knife) to make it easier to remove in the future if needed. Still grabs on tight. Slow and steadily align backplate with MB holes and you should be fine.

5 out of 5 eggsgood to know

Pros: -you can use this with any cooler that uses plastic pins that are identical to the stock cooler pins-have to replace the plastic pins with the spring/screw (not entire bracket) from this kit. -don't expect to use the provided mounting brackets. i used this with a Hyper TX2 with no problems

Cons: bought it somewhere else

5 out of 5 eggsYou need this

Pros: It does what it says it does.

It uses screws instead of push-pins, which make it easier to install.

It spreads the pressure across a larger part of the MB.

It it rigid and prevents the MB from bending.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: You need this for a tower system with an s1283 or similar cooler. It's worth the few dollars.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy This Clip

Pros: Securely holds the cooler to the motherboard
Makes installation easier
Should ease the stresses on your motherboard
Increased cooling due to compressive loading between CPU and heat sink

Cons: This should definitely be included with the cooler. Why do they make us purchase this separately?

Price is a bit steep for a retention clip.

Other Thoughts: After reading the other reviews, I decided to just go ahead and buy this clip with the cooler. I am very glad I did. This works much better than the push pin design.

5 out of 5 eggsMust have

Pros: Definitely beats using push-pins for the CPU cooler. Feels much more secure n safer this way.

Cons: Didn't come with my cpu cooler. Also a bit expensive.

1 out of 5 eggsYeah, but....

Pros: Yeah a good one will provide a stouter alternative to push-pins, BUT....

Cons: But, Xygmatek quality-control is POOR. Mine had a gob of STEEL plugging one of the threaded mounting holes! It looked like a paint bubble but in fact it was a piece of hard steel, clogging the hole where the fourth screw must fit. Unfortunately, I had already adhered the crossbow to my mobo. LOOK BEFORE YOU MOUNT!!!

Other Thoughts: I used a nail punch to knock out the steel plug - it was round ...imagine a BB made of steel, securely plugging one of the four threaded holes. I was horrified!

Shame on you Xygmatek!

5 out of 5 eggsShould come standard

Pros: I got this to go with the S1283 and i am very happy I did. I move my computer a lot and because of this the push pins that came with stock kept popping out.
This bracket is so much better. More secure, more stable and pretty easy to install. I will never use the push pins again

Cons: Should come standard with the xigmatek for LGA775
