Not Perfect for 1156 Mobo w/775 Holes
- Pros: Securely mounts the HDT-S1283 to the motherboard.
Seems to be of good quality, no problems stripping bolts
- Cons: I have an ASRock P55M Pro which is an LGA 1156 socket with compatibility holes for LGA 775.
However, there are three bolts that secure the socket's top plate (top of motherboard) and back plate (underneath the motherboard - a feature the LGA775 sockets do NOT have: a backplate). Two of these three bolts will interfere when you try and mount the backplate on the motherboard, so only 2 of the bracket's 4 holes will be flush against the motherboard, the other side of the bracket rests against the socket's backplate with the holes flying about 1/8-1/4 inch off the motherboard.
It seems to be secure and everything can still be bolted down - its just not ideal. Follow the LGA 1366 install direction while using the LGA 775 holes.
- Other Thoughts: Despite the issues, it works and there's no way I can dock points from this part when I'm consciously using it on the wrong board.
The proper device to use is the ACK-I5361, which has been out of stock for a couple weeks, so I gave up and bought this one. The ACK-I5361 has circular cutouts to get around the socket bolts - take a look at the install directions on Xigmatek's website to see which holes I'm referring to. Its definitely the right solution to mounting the S1283, but alas patience and a 84C Load i5-750 convinced me to buy sooner.
I have an Antec 300 case, which may (?) have taller standoffs than others, so be careful about following my hacked install procedure.
Also - don't put the fan on before screwing down the heatsink - you will thank yourself later, as will leaving the motherboard out of your case until you have both the fan and the heatsink installed.
Glad i bought this!!!
- Pros: Its very sturdy and fits perfect with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 heatsink and fan!
- Cons: The sticky pad that comes with the crossbow doesn't stick very well to the MB so i had to use some tape to hold it on untill i could put the screws in.
- Other Thoughts: The Xigmatek should honestly come with this component because those push pins are absolute garbage and not stable enought. IMO.
It works.
- Pros: Way better than the stock push pins. Much more secure.
- Cons: Should have been supplied as an option with the pushpins in the heatsink package.
- Other Thoughts: When Intel ships their 6 Core CPU, it will packaged with a heatpipe tower that will fasten with a backplate. Intel finally listened?
