Xigmatek goes beyond the conventional in their innovative, efficient thermal solutions. Instead of a copper base or bulky heat spreader, the Dark Knight-S1283V is part of their HDT range of coolers. The Heatpipe Direct Touch system is a cutting edge solution for efficient thermal transference directly from the CPU – heatpipes in direct contact with the CPU instead of being buried within a base. These 3 large U-shaped 8mm pure copper sealed tubes contain fluid which moves the heat upward into the array of large-surface area aluminum convection fins.

The fins are cooled by over 89 CFM of cooling air from the 120mm fan spinning on Long Life bearings. Even at its maximum 2200 RPM speed, the fan only generates 30.1 dBA of noise. This level can be lowered automatically, based on thermal demand utilizing the PWM functionality. Controlled by the BIOS, the fan's speed is adjusted automatically as the system detects changes in temperature.

The Dark Knight sits upon vibration-eliminating rubber mounts which isolate any fan vibrations from the motherboard – ensuring quiet operation. A tool-less clip holds the cooler safely in place on any AMD Socket AM2, 754, 939 or 940 processor as well as all Intel Socket 775 and 1366 CPUs.

Pros: Iam sure this monster would keep your processor cool
Cons: I wouldnt know cause it wont fit in my case without banging into the clear case side fan . :( Hope i can send this thing back. Bigger is not always better

Not so good on i7-920

Pros: Cheap and fits the evga x58 board
Cons: Don't cool very well. Using i7 920 proc. at 3.9 gzh I hit 76 degrees running prime95. I can't go any higher because of my temp so I'm ordering another heatsink. Its really tall and the fan mounting system is cheesy. Had to break off some fins for it to fit around the power regulator heatsink on the board. If you mount it the other way ( parallel to memory sticks) it don't work at all.
Other Thoughts: I should have just bit the bullet and bought a better HS with my first order.

Makes a nice paper weight?

Works Great Very Bulky

Pros: This heatsink does the trick especially when mounting the 120mm fan (included). Very nice look. Easy Install. Need to purchase thermal grease.
Cons: Pretty large. Heatsink blocks the 4th RAM slot on my MOBO. Also cannot install a 120mm case fan on my side panel because there is not enough space between the heatsink and the location of where I can install the case fan.
Other Thoughts: I think protecting your CPU from overheating is worth a lot more than a 120mm side panel case fan. I just wish I could use that last RAM slot.

Pros: Cools my OC'd i7 920 @ 4.2GHz with 55C temps. Set aside some time to install it - 15-30 min. White LED fan looks cool.
Cons: A bit big but was expecting that and researched the case beforehand to make sure it fit(thanks to the reviewers for the info!).
Other Thoughts: Make sure your case is big enough for this HS. Read the reviews!

Pros: Compatible with all sockets currently on the market. Solid construction; Fins are really tough. Nickle plated; Looks great. H.D.T. (Heat-pipe direct touch) technology.

Dropped my temps about 20 degrees Celsius.

Stock AMD cooler. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @3.195Ghz 1.450v [45-50 Idle, 60-70 Full Load]

Cons: Though I wouldn't consider this a con for those with full towers that have plenty of space, this is a really big heat sink, I think this will fit SOME mid tower cases but it will probably be pretty tight. Make sure you measure first.

Plenty of room in my Antec 1200.
