5 out of 5 eggsPoor reviews are unjustified

Pros: - Super low profile
- Multipurpose
- Comes with a good fan and adequate thermal grease
- One of the cheapest in this socket&profile range

Cons: - Surface finish on base is not the highest quality
- Setup requires more info/thought than the included directions contain
- The bracket is attached with adhesive strips, so it is less removable than most

Other Thoughts: I am willing to forgive both cons based on the fact that this is a fantastic heat sink for the $28 it currently costs.
Currently, it is one of the only low profile heatsinks that fits the Intel 1155 socket. I was lucky enough to have the knowhow to re-lap the surface to a mirror finish, with some care taken.
As for the complaints about the mounting situation, the bottom bracket is attached to the motherboard with adhesive strips already on the bracket. Before using this semi-permanent setup, you merely have to check the back of your motherboard and see which holes line up, the directions should not be needed.
As for people receiving bad parts, this is covered under newegg's fantastic standard warranty, you should have no issues getting a replacement.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quiet. Others have said the fan is loud but it isn't. Keeps the CPU 5~10c cooler than regular stock heat sink. Easy to install.

Cons: I gave this 3 eggs because the product showed up in a somewhat damaged state. 2 of the the 4 springs used on the posts to hold down the cooler were bent badly and were unusable. One of the brackets was bent almost in half. I did not RMA because I had some left over parts and the computer this was for needed to be running. The heat sink itself had no bent fins, just the mounting hardware was damaged. Also, no heat sink paste was included either.

Other Thoughts: It is a good overall heat sink, just quality control must have slipped up when mine was packaged. Running a e8500, before it was at a constant 42c idle, 55c under load, now its 37c, 48 under load.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst CPU Cooler I Have Ever Used!!!!!!

Pros: Slim design and looks great, however that is as far as it goes. Looks like it is only compatible with a 775 intel socket.

Cons: The instructions as mention by others is true. It is horrid to say the least. I did not want to believe the feedback as I have installed countless CPU cooler and figured it was user error on the end users. Boy was I wrong.

Other Thoughts: Tried to install this in a Silverstone SG05BB-450 Mini-ITX case with an Asus Mini-ITX MB with a 1155 socket. First I tried to aline the holes, but noticed the holes on the socket did not aline to a 1155 cpu socket. The socket on the base plate is fixed and cannot be moved. I used a needle nose pliers thinking I could easy unscrew it to fit it on the 1155 hole, but it was fixed to the 775. So after an hour I gave up and tried to mount the cpu cooler with only 2 screws to secure it down. It looked like it worked. So I thought, when I tried to boot my machine the motherboard caused a fatal error. Not sure what happened and now I am forced to RMA my motherboard. I spent nearly 3-4 hours only to destroy my setup. As said on the title, "Worst CPU cooler I have ever used"

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible install directions but works great.

Pros: Arrived very quickly, thanks Newegg! So far so good at keeping my CPU very cool.. Intel E5200 running at 33C at idle. The fan appears to be very quiet, can't hear a think over the roar of my video card.

Cons: Absolutely horrible install instructions. They have documentation in English but makes no sense at all. Like others have found, you need to mess around with the parts and just figure it out. I got it on there but just using a bit of force I can lift it up off the chip. I figure gravity will keep it in place. Oh well.

Other Thoughts: I went to their website hoping for photos and/or installation video. No dice, website just as bad as their horrible installation instructions. Don't get me wrong, it works but I'll still buy a different brand next time.

3 out of 5 eggsNot giving the performance I expected

Pros: Low profile
Copper pipes
Quite fan

Cons: Only a couple of degrees cooler than stock heatsink
Bracket doesn't fit a mITX motherboard
Low airflow

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my Silverstone Sugo SG05. Since I had a full sized GPU and my ram came with fins (not that they really need them) I wanted a heatsink that was small enough to fit and asymmetric if possible. Because of its size it was able to fit between the ram and graphics card although at only one orientation. There is a transistor on the back of my (and many) mITX board that blocks the stock bracket so I had to steal parts off a different set to get it to hold. Unfortunately, I am still able to push the CPU to its thermal threshold to the point that it automatically throttles back the voltage. This only happens while gaming but it hurts performance. This is not the experience that other reviewers have had so I would like to get a fan with a higher CFM and see if that solves it. Not many choices for my size constraints.

5 out of 5 eggsXIGMATEK Durin D982

Pros: Great low profile HSF! Fits in the X-Qpack2 case without any problem at all! It's cooling a Intel E5200, 2.5GHz dual core. It mounted to the 775 socket on a micro ATX board without a hitch. It's quiet! With my machine sitting in the BIOS setup, it's running at 2950RPM and I can't even hear it. Direct touch heat pipe is really nice. CPU sitting at 29C @idle in the BIOS setup.

Cons: Doesn't move as much air as I would like, but it's keeping the CPU at a good temp. I contribute this to the direct touch heat pipes. You could always use a different fan with it scene it uses little rubber standoffs to hold it to the heat sink. Little rubber standoffs work, didn't have any problems even after I realized I needed to flip the fan over to blow air across instead of pulling air through it, (fan direction didn't make a difference in cooling). The rubber standoffs could get cut by the fins if you're S/O fans often, other wise just be careful and you'll be fine.

Other Thoughts: Bought this little guy to use in a server, it's going to work great I belive. It's very quiet, low profile and fits my needs perfectly. Newegg sells the standoffs by them self, I'll be getting a set just in case I need them. The heat pipes could be a problem on some boards, but they were as high if not higher than the surrounding components on my board but would only clear the RAM turned one way. Graet HSF and you can use a different fan with it if you want with no problems. Unlike some reviews, you can take the fan off without any problems once it's attached, just be careful with the rubber standoffs! Would buy another one without hesitation.

Over all I'm very happy with it, it's one of the only ones I found at a decent price that would work in my case, besides the stock HSF which of course is junk.

3 out of 5 eggsWon't fit in 1U Chasis

Pros: According to most of the reviews, it works great as a cooler and is very quiet. I'm sure it is.

Cons: Won't fit in a 1U chasis.

The Low Profile aspect of the name refers to the top side only. It requires the mobo is mounted up on standard hieght stands. The metal mounting bracket (not depicted in any product pictures ANYWHERE) gets adhered to the BOTTOM side of the mobo.

In a 1U chasis, there is no room for mounting the bracket under the mobo..the stands are way to low.

Install instructions were beyond goofy. A couple of simple little diagrams would save all that paper.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and Cold

Pros: Low profile
Keeps motherboard and processor so cool that the fans barely have to work

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It's great, I highly recommend it. It's about as much as a stock cooler yet does a much better job. No brainer

4 out of 5 eggsWonderful, if not perfect

Pros: Exceptional cooling ability. Even with only two heatpipes, the fact that they are large diameter and are direct contact fitting allows the unit to perform well. Will keep ANY quad-core cool and stable.

Cons: The contact surface is not as smooth as I'd like and the instructions can be annoyingly vague to the inexperienced.

Other Thoughts: Buy this heatsink if space is a premium.
