5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This was actually fun to install. I used it for mounting my Artic Freezer 7 Pro east/west on an AMD cpu. It works like a charm! Install was fairly easy once I got the instructions. (see cons)

Cons: Instructions aren't detailed. Had to go online to get the in depth instructions. Requires removal of mother board. Cross bar doesn't hold the artic freezer 7, I used the Artic's brace instead. The n back piece also didn't fit flush with the mother board.

Other Thoughts: Once I got the instructions, It got rolling pretty fast. I'm happy.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to install!

Pros: Has very few parts which makes installation really easy!

Cons: Doesn't support my cooling unit, though it supports my CPU.

Below is an email I sent to XIGMATEK before making my purchase, wanting to make sure the bracket WOULD work. Based off of his response I decided I'd go for this one. Turns out it isn't that simple.

"Yes the Crossbar bracket should work with your cooler. So long as it supports your socket type it should support your cooler.

If you do end up purchasing the mounting bracket, please feel free to contact me for any further assistance.

Thanks!
John Vittiglio"

Other Thoughts: Make sure you look at this product and verify that the parts on this bracket will fit with your cooling unit. My cooling unit had a raised indent to where the crossbar would go, making it impossible to screw down. Though I will probably drill a hole and make it work ;)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Even For Non Xigmatek Heatsinks

Pros: In relation to the other reviews:

Lay the brackets across the wrench they give you with the bottom of the stud in the wrench jaws and screw the thumb nut on the stud but keep the threads covered. Put something on top of the nut to protect it and smack it lightly with a pair of pliers. Stud pops right out. Can be put back in.

Mine came with 2011 standoffs. Email Xigmatek...you have old stock or they were left out.

Xigmatek site says what it does not fit and the Dark Knight is listed there. It can be modified to fit.

My review:

This bracket is a life saver. It doesn't seem to be popular and I have no idea why. I used a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer 120mm and I had to file about .25 mm off of the inside of each peg on the crossbar to seat it on the sink base. It will still fit what it was made for. The sink cooled a Phenom II 125 watt CPU @ 4Ghz very good but had a clip on mount. The ACK-U01 allowed me to continue to use it on my 3570K and ASrock Z77 Extreme4. Fantastic product if it fits your need. I read a lot and even if it don't fit it gives you the back plate and posts so you can make your own crossbar which is not that hard. If you go to a metal shop they will give you scrap pieces of metal to modify it with.

Again, this is the building blocks you need to mount just about any sink you want.

Cons: None except may be discontinued.

Other Thoughts: I first modified it by pointing the studs down and putting home made tabs to clip my sink on. You have to use regular nuts if anything is beside the socket under the plates. Washers worked on the 775 board to raise the plates a hair so the studs didn't hit the board. You might have to remove the studs and use short bolts. It worked great on an old 775 board but the 1155 socket is shorter and the side plates are too wide to allow the sink to seat down on the CPU. It would be real easy to make narrower plates to allow using the clip on the Sunbeam Sink. Or you could grind about 2-4mm off of each plate. Sink was about 2-3mm above CPU. The tabs I made had a hole to bolt it on and stuck out enough to clip to. Was solid!

I think you could mount about anything with this even if you have to modify it. Most of the work is done. I used to work in a machine shop where we made lots of things fit lots of things. Everything I done to this bracket was done with hand tools and a nail file. You might need a drill and a real file for more elaborate modifications.

You can probably find something to use for tabs or anything else you need by walking through a hardware store. I made my tabs from an old Pentium Slot Processor fan clip. Nice thin, narrow, spring steel tabs. I did have to drill holes in them.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT LGA 2011 compatible

Pros: None

Cons: Although the description says LGA2011 compatible, the unit I received is not and does not have the appropriate screws to attach to an LGA2011 socket. To top it off, newegg charged me restocking fee to RMA the unit even though none of this was my fault.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks just as promised

Pros: I bought this to replace a broken mount for my CM Hyper 212+. Works great, and I can use this for any future CPU/Mobo upgrades.

Cons: The Hyper 212+ went on sale for 19.99 a week after I bought this, oh well.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: If it would have worked, it would have somewhat dropped my temps a bit. Would have also changed the orientation of the fans to east to west, which i personally prefer.

Cons: Well, it was incompatible to my Dark Knight. That was a surprise to me. Before I bought this, I emailed XIGMATEK asking if it would be compatible and they said yes. Well, it turns out, it isn't. In short, they lied and ended up making waste money so I could return it to get a refund.

Other Thoughts: Currently waiting for Newegg to receive my return so I can get my money back.

5 out of 5 eggssaved me $40 on a heatsink

Pros: I used this guy to put an old Arctic Freezer64 (socket AM2) heat sink onto a brand new (LGA-1155) Intel i5-2500 CPU. Lots of heat sink manufacturers make adapters for this kind of thing but Arctic is apparently not one of them, so the crossbar (which appears to be pretty universal for modern CPUs) saved me from having to spend $50 or more on a new, entirely unnecessary heatsink. Installation was pretty straightforward if you're used to working on motherboards, and the instructions were clear.

Cons: Not sure if the pressure-mount system actually improves thermal conductivity (my guess is not really). Don't really care; I bought it as an adapter.

Depending on the heat sink and CPU type you're using it on, getting everything lined up exactly during mounting (and keeping it from slipping when you tighten down the bar) can be a little tricky. Do a couple of dry runs before you try it with the thermal paste on.
