Overview

The new Xigmatek XAF Series of 140mm system fans continues the company’s innovative design focus to provide advanced features and performance while maintaining excellent value to the end user. The innovative “waveform” shape of the fan blades on the XAF series aren’t just for show and provide real performance benefits. The XAF series also features a very high quality copper bearing system which extends the service life of the fan 50% over that of fans using regular ball or sleeve bearings.

Xigmatek XAF-F1451

A New Wave in Fan Design

The unique “waveform” fan blade shape of the XAF series fans were specifically designed to maximize airflow per revolution. The “waveform” shape, along with the minimized central hub, increases the surface area of each fan blade over traditional designs and delivers up to 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs over normal fan designs. Furthermore, unlike traditional fans which act like an air scoop, the irregularly shaped wave of air that forms in front of the “waveform” blade helps to reduce the collection of dust on the fan blade itself.

• Innovative “waveform” fan blade designed for performance – The unique shape of the XAF series fan blades and the minimally sized central hub dramatically increases blade surface area and generates 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs to traditional fans. More airflow equals better cooling performance.

• Dramatically reduces dust collection – Traditional curved fan designs act like air scoops and over time they collect dust over the entire blade which increases air resistance and decreases performance. The unique “waveform” fan blade of the XAF series generates an irregularly shaped pressure wave in front of the fan blade which helps to reduce dust collection.

• High quality copper bearing for long life – The bearing is the heart of a fan system. Xigmatek’s use of superior grade copper materials for the bearing system ensures up to 50% longer service life than regular ball or sleeve bearing designs. Greater reliability gives you peace of mind for your PC system.

Pros: 90 CFMs is always a Pro! Looks very stylish! Capable of installing into 120mm slots, as long as you have openings your good!

Cons: I think the noise rating may be higher then stated. Not a high pressure fan so don't use it as a heat sink fan if you can avoid it. A little pricey!

Other Thoughts: This fan has good airflow considering the low RPMs it turn. Not sold on the AOS yet, but the fans are still going strong!

1 out of 5 eggsLOUD

Pros: It's a fan I guess.

Cons: Very loud. Not defective like there was something rubbing, just lots of hum and white noise. It drowned out the harddrives, psu, other fans on my pc. Tried it against the stock fan on my Coolermaster case and the stock fan was amazing in comparison. This fan could be okay for an office or a classroom situation, but if you really need a quiet environment forget about it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Unless You Get a Dud

Pros: VERY quiet when running at 60% or less
120 mounting holes
Design is very sexy

Cons: This fan has a very annoying clicking sound when run at ~70% speed or above. I have it mounted at the bottom of my case as an intake and I found that the clicking goes away when I lay my case on its side. Apparently it likes running vertically rather than horizontally? I have spent a while trying to find out if anything else in the case is vibrating and causing the noise, but it is definitely coming from the fan. It is also fairly expensive unless you find it on sale.

Other Thoughts: If the clicking noise wasn't there I would give this a 5/5. But since the price jumped and I have to run the fan at a lower setting than I'd like 3/5 seems appropriate.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Very quiet at full RPM. Solid quality. They move huge ammounts of air quietly.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: With 4 of these rolling at full RPM, The only fan I really hear now is my Antec Khuler 620 V2 fan.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very quiet. Moves plenty of air. You can hear the air moving, but not the operation of the fan. I like the fact that it can be mounted in either a 120 or 140 slot. You can effectively place a 140 fan in a 120 slot and take advantage of the entire opening.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsLarge and quiet

Pros: Wavy blades disrupt turbulence for high flow without much noise. Can't hear it over the PSU fan.

Cons: Odd "thin" mounting on both sides of fan. I use the "wrong" side to be thick, can't take much torque on the screws in this position but I don't need to change to short screws.

Other Thoughts: I use this on my CPU, AMD Phenom II X4-965 clocked at about 4ghz. This replaces a 140mm non-PCM Scythe with a similar shape. It is mounted on a Cooler Master Geminii. Using a large fan like this in a blow-down configuration cools the CPU, memory, South Bridge, MOSFETs and other motherboard components.

5 out of 5 eggsCool fan

Pros: Nice unit. Seems to push a lot of air. I like the separate mounting tabs as they gave better fit flexibility in a non-standard location. I have the 4 pin, PWM (pulse width modulation)version which is nice since the speed control is automatic. Works well on the new Gigabyte Z77 board.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Quiet. Moves decent amount of air. Works well when works. Can be placed

Cons: Not the best design. Fan Blades are weak. Blade sheared off when caught cable in crowded HTPC case. Installation feet break if the screw is off center buy any amount.Expensive, not durable.

Other Thoughts: Overall not a bad fan does the job just not seem to be well made.
