The new Xigmatek XAF Series of 120mm system fans continues the company’s innovative design focus to provide advanced features and performance while maintaining excellent value to the end user. The innovative “waveform” shape of the fan blades on the XAF series aren’t just for show and provide real performance benefits. The XAF series also features a very high quality copper bearing system which extends the service life of the fan 50% over that of fans using regular ball or sleeve bearings.

Xigmatek XAF-F1254

A New Wave in Fan Design

The unique “waveform” fan blade shape of the XAF series fans were specifically designed to maximize airflow per revolution. The “waveform” shape, along with the minimized central hub, increases the surface area of each fan blade over traditional designs and delivers up to 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs over normal fan designs. Furthermore, unlike traditional fans which act like an air scoop, the irregularly shaped wave of air that forms in front of the “waveform” blade helps to reduce the collection of dust on the fan blade itself.

• Innovative “waveform” fan blade designed for performance – The unique shape of the XAF series fan blades and the minimally sized central hub dramatically increases blade surface area and generates 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs to traditional fans. More airflow equals better cooling performance.

• Dramatically reduces dust collection – Traditional curved fan designs act like air scoops and over time they collect dust over the entire blade which increases air resistance and decreases performance. The unique “waveform” fan blade of the XAF series generates an irregularly shaped pressure wave in front of the fan blade which helps to reduce dust collection.

• High quality copper bearing for long life – The bearing is the heart of a fan system. Xigmatek’s use of superior grade copper materials for the bearing system ensures up to 50% longer service life than regular ball or sleeve bearing designs. Greater reliability gives you peace of mind for your PC system.

• Innovative “waveform” fan blade design to dramatically increase airflow up to 20% over standard blade designs

• “Waveform” blade produces irregular air pressure wave at the front of the blade helping to reduce dust collection

• High quality, long life copper bearings designed to extend service life up to 50% over standard ball or sleeve bearing designs – MTBF rated at 150,000 hours

• Available in 3-pin (non-PWM) or 4-pin (PWM) versions

• Comes in a variety of colors and with or without white LED

• 120mm versions available for most standard PC system applications

3 out of 5 eggsA good fan, however....

Pros: The positives of this particular fan design are the sleek design, the LED's aren't too dim or bright, and the included adapters make connecting it easy. The white LED's make the lighting choice look clean and nice.

Cons: The negatives are that little information could be found on the bearing type of this fan by searching the web, both fans I installed perpendicular to the ground I've had issues with. Which leads me to suspect the bearing design is sleeve based, one of them stopped working after a routine maintenance and the other makes clicking noises upon startup or intermittently during normal operation.

Other Thoughts: I purchased four of these fans and two of them that are installed the traditional vertical way are still functional. They are very good fans in design and performance. Since two of the four aren't functioning properly I'm subtracting 3 eggs from the rating, however since I think perhaps I should have looked into information about fan bearings and the affects of bearings upon fans prior to installation I'm adding 1 egg to the rating for my personal oversight.

For the TLDR people - When purchasing any fan look into information about the bearing prior to installation or purchase. You'll save yourself time, money, and prevent potentially unnecessary issues.

Thank you for reading, I hope this helps.

5 out of 5 eggsGood flow

Pros: It moves a LOT more air than the fan it replaced... I'm using a APEVIA X-QPACK2-AL case, and I replaced the rear 120mm fan with this one. The LED's in the stock fan were so bright and annoying, I ended up removing the lights. This fan, however, isn't so bright. The white LED's really aren't crazy bright. I was going to remove them before installing it because I don't care for flashy lights, but I decided against it. After the install, they don't bother me so I guess I'll keep them in there. It's actually kind of nice.

Cons: Always remember that noise is relative, what might be quiet for me may be extremely noisy to another person. Also, I suppose it depends on your case - this may be quieter in a bigger case than mine. Anyway, this fan makes what I would call a "humming" noise, and it's the noisiest fan in my case, minus my CPU fan when at full throttle (stock AMD Phenom 965 cooler fan). Even so, I don't mind it because it's making a huge difference in case temperature.

Other Thoughts: It's a bit on the pricey side I suppose, but it's a solid fan. I think it's worth the money if you want something that moves a lot of air, without spinning at crazy RPMs. However, if you want a dead silent fan, this may not be the one for you (yet I think it's manageable).

4 out of 5 eggsJust enough glam with great functionality

Pros: Move air really well
The LEDs look nice, when they have full power
Quiet compared to a Cooler Master fan I have
Molex to 3 pin adapter is useful

Cons: The fans must be turned up to 100% for the lights to be bright. Its fine if you have a fan controller or BIOS fan control, but whenever they flicker when you're gaming, it could be distracting. Not too big of a problem for me though since im casual.
Chrome screws. Really?

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent fans

Pros: Great airflow for 120 mm. Even on full speed they are still quiet compared to other fans that move as much air. LED is a nice touch.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsVery good...if you are lucky

Pros: These fans move and a lot of air and are very quiet.
They look good and are well built....

Cons: These fans are great but seem to be hit or miss. And when you miss they are loud and sound like the motor is rubbing something when it spins, especially at lower rpm's

Other Thoughts: For the most part these fans are excellent but they can be hit or miss and when you miss they are very loud and sound like something in the motor is rubbing. I bought two of these and one is amazing, high air flow and super, and the other is real loud when spinning and required me throwing it against a wall quite hard to fix it (in frustration). For the price I expect a solid product everytime, and not a grab bag of results.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty, Cheap, Get the Job Done

Pros: Nice white LEDs, good price (i got them for $8.99 a piece), they move air and aren't too loud.

Cons: Not silent, but they aren't advertised as silent either, so can't really hold it against them.

Other Thoughts: Bought 4 of these fans and installed them in my case. It brought my max CPU temperature down by 5C.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent fans

Pros: - Move a good amount of air
- Relatively quiet, I have 10 of them running in my Cosmos II and they don't bother me a bit
- LEDs are the perfect amount of brightness, and they look wicked when reflecting off of the wavy fan blades
- Black sleeved cables are sleeved decently well. I'll probably re-sleeve them at some point but for now it works fine.

Cons: - Silver mounting screws?! Really?
- Cables could be a tad longer, maybe 2 inches or so
- Heat shrink on the plug end of the sleeve is a little loose on some of them, not a big deal since they're hidden away but a bit of a quality oversight
- White 3 pin connector should be black. I'll be changing these out

Other Thoughts: Newegg never ceases to amaze me with their incredible shipping speeds, especially during the holidays. For non-PWM white LED 120mm fans, these work very well for the price. The cons I listed are all minor and purely aesthetic; the fans themselves perform very well and I would highly recommend them.
