5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fans:
Rosewill RFA-120

2600k
5.2GHz 80c full load; idle 32C
4.8GHz 70c full load; idle 30C

4770k
4.6GHz 70 full load; idle 32C

Cons: The bracket that hold the heatsink to the CPU is a pain to get on. It is one of those thing once you get it on, you do not touch it. The bracket that goes across the heatsink with a screw hole on each end it a little bit short. The hole does not line up properly and require fiddling to get it to go on.

Other Thoughts: The new model comes in Black, Blue or Red. If you are under budget, then I would recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic cooler

Pros: My machine is pin-drop silent thanks to the Megahalems' excellent thermal conductivity and large cooling surface area. I'm cooling an i5-3570K and it stays cool with one very quiet [low speed] cooler fan. CPU temps are 30C at idle and 47C under heavy load. It is not OC'ed [yet]. Also, the Prolimatech thermal paste is among the best available.

Cons: Installation is a little tedious so do go slow and double/triple check each step. Some of my threaded holes were not properly "finished" so you may want to thread each screw into each threaded hole (and remove) before actually performing that step. Nevertheless, it does go together nicely and the superior cooling is well worth the extra effort.

Other Thoughts: My Megahalems came with four (4) clips for two (2) cooler fans.

This is a large cooler so be sure to check clearances. That said, it does fit most MBs and cases. ...but do check. My Megahalems clears my Mushkin memory sticks with their "Frostbyte" heat spreaders.

A naive cooling subsystem is arguably the largest source of noise. Choose quiet fans and a cooler with excellent thermal conductivity and large surface area. I did and am not disappointed. I have a very fast yet "pin-drop" silent machine. ...on air no less. :-))

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well Passively

Pros: I'm using this as a passive heatsink in a Silverstone FT02 Fortress chassis with an Intel i5-2400 (no overclocking).
The case fans move plenty of air across this heatsink to keep the CPU cool without any additional fans. Running passively, the CPU is cooler than ambient temperature (19C, 66F) and at load the CPU rarely exceeds 50C, 122F.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I would encourage everyone who isn't overclocking to use this cooler with no fan. It really will go a long way in making your system quieter.

4 out of 5 eggsMore like Megatron!

Pros: This is an amazing heat sink for enthusiasts. If you're not willing to use liquid cooling, this is the next best thing. In fact I've seen comparison reviews where this beat some liquid-cooled options.

Cons: One of the bolts was slightly too thick for the mounting bracket. I had to sand it down a good bit to make it work.

Other Thoughts: If you're not overclocking, this is probably overkill.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent cooler. Replaced my Hyper212+, which was getting 65C at stock speeds with a 17-980. This cooler was managing 43-45C with the same settings. Overclocked to 4GHz, never higher then 53C. I used push, pull setup w/ 2 fans and the included TIM. Couldn't be happier.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Performance, Chintzy Mounting

Pros: Great performance, keeps my i5-2500 below 45C at all times.

Cons: Mounting system is somewhat chintzy, screws are not quite properly sized and mounting plate does not secure tightly to motherboard. Wire hooks for fan mounting are functional but not confidence-inspiring, and will probably vibrate and rattle against the heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Heatsink is recessed on the faces and only accepts standard-size, square 120x25mm fans. If your fan housing is round it will fit, but will not be secure. 140mm fans with 120mm mounting holes will not work, as they sit farther out on the heatsink and the fan clips will not reach. 120x38mm fans are also too deep for the clips. Retention screws for heatsink crossbar are also too tall and cause fans to sit slightly above the top of the heatsink.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Heatsink!!!

Pros: Amazing cooling performance. Easy to mount IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: To other people who say its TOO BIG... Well sorry to say if your case isnt a full tower, you should've done your homework and check the dimensins before you buy. But dont take out an egg from the rating because you were lazy. To people that cant fit their fan over the ram. Just flip the fan and install it on the other side... Problem solved. Does the same job i tested it... Little imagination and everything works.

3 out of 5 eggsToo big.

Pros: With stock case fans I idle at around 30 Celsius. IMO I have not been super impressed with the cooling, but its above average thats for sure. However the cons outweigh the pros.

Cons: Size. I cannot fit 4 RAM sticks in because once you attach a 120mm fan to the cooler its width blocks out one RAM slot. I am using a Asus Maximums IV Extreme. So if you plan on getting this board skip on the Prolimatech. I knew I should have gone with the Corsair H100...look for my cooler on the preowned market around December time. With standard ground shipping I wont be able to return this in time.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seriously the best cooler I have ever owned. It's a quality piece of hardware. The reviews and benchmarks online speak for this thing. Also comes with quality thermal paste so there's no need to spend an extra $5-10 on paste.

Cons: The directions are pretty lackluster and are on a huge sheet of paper in about 80 different languages.

The fan clips are a little tricky if you have never used this type before.

Also the contact on the bottom was not precisely flat so you end up putting more thermal paste than you're used to. However it doesn't appear to affect performance at all.

Next up the box must be pretty old because it does not indicate that it fits 1155 socket. That's all fine since its the same mount as Sockey 1156 but some people might pass this up who dont know this thinking it doesn't fit.

And finally, maybe I read the directions wrong, but it comes with a spacer that is supposed to only be used with a socket 775 model. I found that my 1155 needed the spacer in order to fit properly on the board.

Other Thoughts: If you're an enthusiast like me, squeezing those extra few C's is worth the extra pound of flesh you pay to have this in your pc. Which brings me to my next point. Dont cheap out on the fans. Buy some quality 120mm fans for this puppy.

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant engineering

Pros: From the mounting system to the cooling it does exactly whats it,s suppose to do. In push pull with Delta 150CFM fans it doesn't get any better than this. I've run many a benchmark with this heatsink, on numerous configurations and have found it durable and consistent in it's application.Solid as a rock.

Cons: Solid as a rock! Watch very carefully how you tighten down This heatsink! It is so well engineered that" A Good thing" it will bend the pins on the cpu or socket to which it is applied,,, if you get overzealous with your tightening of the heatsink to the Motherboard. This is not a bad thing this is just something you should be aware of. Tighten it down firm but but DO Not OVER torque with a screwdriver.

Other Thoughts: Over all rating if they gave half points would be a half point to 3/4,s lower only because they have not supplied the fans. And other comparable heat sinks do. Of which there are only two or three in this top echelon.
