Over the years, Prolimatech PK-1 has become one of the hardware testers’ favorite. It is not hard to see why. PK-1 is a premium grade of thermal compound that is easy to spread and is reliable throughout the year. It will not dry out while continuing to provide good heat transfer from your CPU to your heatsink base. Performance-wise, PK-1 is a contender for the top spot as it beat other major brands of thermal compound in the market. To maintain top condition, we highly recommend reapplying PK-1 every year.
So far, great TIM
Pros: Dropped my temps by 3C (22C at idle, 34C max on my Phenom II X4) from what it was with Arctic Silver 5, which beat AS Ceramique.
Cons: When I attempted to twist off the cap on the syringe, which is a regular syringe (and the 'cap' is the part that normally holds a needle), the inner spout broke off inside the cap, so I twisted the cap in permanently, cut off the tip to open a channel through it, and put a rubber cap over it. I was not going to send it back or risk contaminating the contents by squirting it into another syringe. Cheap plastic on something that was probably made in China? Who would've guessed?
Other Thoughts: I researched this very well before making a purchase. There as so many reviews/tests that show the best pastes swapping each other for the top spots that I finally decided to just go with the one of the top 10 with the best thermal conductance along with meeting my other needs: easy to spread, non-electrical, non-capacitive, non-corrosive, no cure time, long lasting and cheap. This seems to work very well -- or maybe I'm just good at applying it.
