4 out of 5 eggsQuiet Low Flow Fans for APUs

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: Fairly Quiet Low flow air fans great for AMD APUs.
Great for the under 100W APUs.

Low air flow to help keep PCs cool, best for a
livingroom media station that will mostly be used for
playback of video / movies / TV shows and music.

If you are overclocking some Octa Core mega machine,
these are not the loud high speed jet engine wind tunnel fans you are looking for...

Of course if you want silent PC / or maximum quiet you should use some rubber washers on your screw mounts to dampen any possible case vibration noise.

I chose these fans for top mounted exit air flow.
Case heat naturally rises and these just give enough pull to keep heat moving out and not building up along the top of the mid tower case - near the APU & Memory Sticks.

Cons: Right Tool for the Job; these are quiet fans - not high speed jet turbines. Running at low RPMs they are silent.

If you use a fan controller - you can boost the speed to the max, but of course you will hear the difference between the lowest speed and the max speed.

Yes - Someone at New Egg needs to re-read the box and verify the correct product description on-line.

Other Thoughts: When adding fans to a case, or building a system from the start, first know how much heat your system is going to put out.

A 65W CPU will not put out as much heat as a 220W CPU, so you can use a smaller cooling block and slower silent fans on the case.

If you are indeed building your new monster mega machine over 100W CPU / APU - be sure to buy a large enough case with ample air flow both in and out.

Be careful to read and understand your Power Supply and mount it correctly - don't put the power supply in upside down on a top mount case and wonder why it seems too hot!

DO spend the extra money to get a Gold certified power supply - it will help keep your case cooller and add longevity to your motherboard.

Begin with the right plan, and quality components,
and you won't have to back track trying to cool mismatched or over heating, lower quality parts.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the proce

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: Very Silent (even at max), moves a decent amount of air at max speeds. Love the grill, (many more "fins" to block wires and fingers from accidentally hitting the blades) IT was worth it for the discounted price. (bought 2 and came to less then 20$ with shipping. Sleeve wires, long cable

Cons: Even thou they are very silent, when they are anything less then 100% speed, they move little to no air, and there RPM drops below 500rpm, (my asus monitor app dings when it adjusts)

Other Thoughts: best to keep these connected to a 4 pin power.

1 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: Rather quiet and fairly stylish. The whole vortex thing they advertise seems to work. Point it at someone across the room and they'll feel it.

Cons: Overview tab claims "The LEPA LPVX14P delivers up to 106.65CFM of air flow to speed up the air circulation inside the chassis for better cooling." This is not the case. The box says 106.65 m3/h (cubic meters per hour). The overview also claims 1600 RPM, but the box says 1200. This is not the fan I was expecting. Much weaker. Probably shouldn't be used for anything more than a case fan.

Other Thoughts: I see the "details" tab seems to have everything correct. ~65 CFM is much more believable, but ridiculously low for a 140mm fan. I bought it for a front intake so high CFM isn't critical, but I expected much more.

1 out of 5 eggsloud & buzzy

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: The installation holes are molded for flexibility (maybe 120mm mounts also)

Cons: Even at its slowest speed, it is loud and buzzy. Louder than the Antec TwoCool it replaced. WOuld be nice if the case showed air direction arrow.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Our fans are designed to be quiet and efficient. Sound may come from vibration contact with the case, fan vent blocked by uneven holes which creates turbulence that makes sound, and many other reasons. Or your fan could be defective. Please contact us directly if you have any questions or need a replacement. Thank you for addressing your problem with our products.

4 out of 5 eggsGood alternative to Silverstone Air Penetrator

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: Air channeling fan like the Silverstone Air Penetrator fans. The Lepa Vortex is better though since it's a PWM fan AND it might possibly be using ball bearings.

Cons: Nowhere on the box and even the manufacturer's website is the bearing type listed.

I contacted their US, European and Asian offices to try to get an answer to this and every one of them gave me a different answer.

Their European branch said it uses ball bearings. Their US branch said it uses sleeve bearings. Their Asian branch said they'd get back to me and I still haven't heard anything back from them.

5 out of 5 eggsgo

This review is from: LEPA VORTEX 14 PWM (LPVX14P) 140mm Case Fan

Pros: Works.
Not too loud even at max speed.
Cable is sleeved and reasonably long (about 18 inches, iirc).
Comes with a molex power adapter.
No non-detachable cables to cause clutter supporting features I don't need (of course, if you need extra features, that's a con).
No silly LEDs (also might be a con for you).

Cons: Specs don't mention the bearing type. I guess I'd better assume the worst.
The label is a bit off-center and will make you sea-sick if you look at it too long while it spins.

Other Thoughts: When I ordered it this was literally the only fan on Newegg that met all my requirements, and 2 other vendors had nothing. I have a case that supports 2 120mm or 140mm front input fans and I decided I wanted 2 140mm fans with pwm. That might not seem like much but it narrows the choice down to just this one.
Most of the 140mm pwm fans on Newegg use 120mm mounting screws (you can tell from the pictures where the round rim sticks out a bit past the mounting screw holes. Those won't fit at all in the lower front spot on my case, and if you put one in the upper front it will block the lower spot and limit you to one input fan :(
The only other qualifying fan had a short cable -- just one foot :(

It would be nice if the specs would mention cable length.
