The LEPA LV12 cooler, compatible with AMD and Intel platforms, delivers a great blend of performance and silence that takes the cooling to the next level. An innovation in this model is the louver fin design, which creates a "U"-shaped airflow and forces the air to take more heat than standard fins. Four 6mm copper heatpipes and perfectly spaced aluminum fins with oxidation-resistant coating work together to remove the heat from CPU rapidly and efficiently. A 120mm fan blows cool air over the fins to dispel the heat. The fan can be configured with three selectable peak RPM settings to match your usage scenario. Best of all, the cooler comes in a slim design, avoiding any blockage when you install high-end memory modules with a high-profile heatspread.

Compatible with Intel LGA 775/1155/1156/1366/2011/1150, and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2/FM2+.

  • newegg Louver Design The louver design helps the airflow movement into a "U"-shaped aluminum fin to increase the path of thermal conductivity. The louver fin breaks the thermal boundary layer to increase heat exchange rate.
  • newegg Superior Contact Four Ø6 mm copper heatpipes with exclusive H.D.T. (Heatpipe Direct Touch) Technology ensure rapid thermal conduction and eliminate CPU hot spots.
  • newegg Premium Heatsink Build S.N.T.C (Super Nano Thermal Conductive) coating protects the heat sink from oxidation, keeps excellent heat transfer efficiency, and extends the life expectancy of the cooler. Sophisticated fin gap calculation leads to the ultra balancing between fan speed and heat transfer efficiency.
  • newegg Unique APS Control Intelligent APS (Adjustable Peak Speed) control of the cooling fan directly provides three peak RPM selections for user preferences. Three settings include Silent (800-1500 RPM), Performance (800-1800 RPM), and Overclocking (800-2200 RPM), with respective fan noise of 8 ~ 17/20/23 dBA.
  • newegg BOL Bearing The Barometric Oilless (BOL) Bearing allows for a long life span and silent spinning.
  • newegg Memory Friendly The slim heat sink tower design increases RAM installation flexibility.

3 out of 5 eggsMay have consistency issues

Pros: The LPALV12-BK is pleasingly quiet at its middle operation setting. The fan has three settings which can be changed with a switch on the back of the fan and I believe mine was set by default with the middle option of 800RPM-1800RPM. It's also an attractive unit and it doesn't have any annoying LEDs. It was very easy to install into an LGA 2011 socket (though I did have to look at some reviews online such as from ThinkComputers for better directions. The included directions were not completely clear for the 2011 process.)

Cons: Unfortunately the cooling performance of the unit I received was not great considering its price. I used the LPALV12-BK in my first computer build and I was worried that the poor performance I was experiencing was due to some sort of mistake I made because this cooler has received positive reviews from sites such as Hi-Tech Legion and ThinkComputers; however, other reviews, such as the one from HardOCP (which tested two of these units) found its performance to be very poor and similar to what I am experiencing, possibly due to the heatsink making poor contact with the CPU. This could imply that LEPA is having quality control issues and so you may be rolling the dice a bit with purchasing the LPALV12-BK if you want decent cooling performance.

Other Thoughts: The LEPA LPALV12-BK is not a terrible cooler; it's quiet and easy to install, but it performs only slightly better than a stock Intel air cooler. At ~$45 that is a poor value considering there are coolers available for less money so I could only recommend it if it went on sale or if quiet operation is the most important factor for you. I may attempt to re-install this cooler to see if I can improve its performance/contact with the CPU and if its performance improves I will amend this review!

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Compact-for a 120mm HSF you would think it would be big. It's big, but it doesn't take much more room than the Arctic Freezer Pro that it replace.

Clearence-even with two fans this HSF clears my RAM. I think it would be clear of RAM with the over-sized heatsinks on them.

Price-I found the price a bit high, but I am happy with the quality of the build.

Install-This unit installed in about 12-20 minutes.

Cons: The only con I can think of so far is the fan is not as quiet as I thought it would be. When it is set to top speed, it is pretty loud.

Other Thoughts: This unit dropped off about 8°(C) off the high temp of my CPU( i5-3470) under a 100% load for 10 minutes.

I like the coating on the fins, they do cut down on the cuts.

Overall, this unit is a knockout. It's not as big as some of the other HSF's I looked at. It was easy to install. I was able to mount it in either direction(F to Back, B to Top). I mounted mine B to Top. I also purchase another fan and have it set in a push/pull configuration. It does come with a extra set of clips for mounting another fan.

The only con, is the noise of the fan. Again, I have my set to low since I have two fans mounted, and I can't hear it at all, even under load.

FYI, if I'm just surfing or whatever, I just have the main fan on. If I'm gaming or doing video editing then I turn the second fan on. I have a total of six fans that I can control through a controller.

I am very happy with this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Quiet

Pros: Variable speed, efficient design, near silent at mid rpm, copper pipe heat tubes

Cons: The overall size must be taken into account- distance to side panel and clearance of RAM slots

5 out of 5 eggsquiet cooler that is cool

Pros: very quiet cooler and does the job at 31-34 degrees Celsius. not hard to install at all

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: runs my i7 4790k cool and quiet does not interfere with ram unless you have super massive heat spreader on closest ddr slot
