COUGAR VORTEX PWM 120mm Fan: PWM-FUNCTION

PWM-FUNCTION

PWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation. The 4-Pin connector allows the mainboard to control the fan speed from 800-1500RPM. Fan speed is controlled by the PWM-signal, which delivers a value between 0-100%, the operating voltage remains a constant 12V

Oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves, no friction, extremely quiet

HYDRO-DYNAMIC-BEARING TECHNOLOGY

We defined HDB to Hydro Dynamic Bearing. An oil seal design that has a higher reliability and advantage than conventional fan motor design.
1. High revolution precision, low vibration noise
2. Fluid seal design provide extremely long life span
3. Surface tension effect, runs more smoothly with no friction, extremely quiet
Fluid seal design is achieved through the use of oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves. Bend area is centralized oil and prevented oil leakage out of motor (oil leakage is main problem of sleeve bearing, short life time) . Friction between shaft and HDB will be down due to herringbone structure reaction(friction between the metal is disadvantage of ball bearing, noise & waste heat problem). So HDB conquer sleeve & ball bearing disadvantage to become more reliable & quiet technology for Top-notch fan. Such design concept is successful and applicative on HDD, and we can see a reliability application in it.

HDB, Ball, & Sleeve comparison

Sleeve Ball Hydro-Dynamic
revolution precision mediocre good best
vibration noise mediocre loud quiet
life span (hrs) 30,000 50,000 >150,000
waste heat high high low
Cost low high high

3 out of 5 eggsProblem with radiators in PULL config

Pros: Color, good fans, push a lot of air with low noise, but see below. They were a nice improvement from my stock enermax fans on my CPU temps which were loud at 1300 RPM. See below I had the same problem as the user Brooke A.

Cons: I installed these in a PUSH config on my 240mm radiator and they were sounding great, no click's or anything other than a soft wind sound at max RPM. Although I decided today to install them PULL config and then at max RPM they started to make a clicking sound. I managed to eliminate the clicking sound by using pulse width control on them and had to knock down the RPM to around 1250RPM for them not to start clicking. Anything over that at the sound returns. Kepe in mind these are 1500+ max RPM fans. This is a bit of a disappointment that I cannot run them in PULL config at max RPM because of the noise and I run my CPU overclocked.

Other Thoughts: Don't install these in a PULL config for your radiator and they should work as advertised. Beware of the PULL config as they may start to make a clicking sound.

5 out of 5 eggsCF-V12HP COUGAR fan

Pros: Not very loud at all. The loudest fan in the computer is the CPU fan.
This one has good air flow which is what I needed.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I want to pass on to others that spraying the rubber fixer pins with some silicone helps to pull them through the fan holes, if you choose to use them instead of the screws.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost silent

Pros: -Good price
-Long Sleeved Cable
-Rubber Isolators

Cons: -Color scheme (Orange and black matches nothing)

Other Thoughts: I bought this Cougar fan to replace the CM fan that comes with the Seidon 120V. It moves more air at loser speeds and it virtually silent. It doesn't have a very high RPM ~1500, but it moves plenty of air.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected.

Pros: Keeps my CPU cool blowing through a Scythe Mugen II sink in a push/pull with a Scythe Slipsteam fan.

Cons: Not nearly as quiet as the product info states. Not super loud, but far from silent. If you want silent, go for Scythe.

5 out of 5 eggsI was impress

Pros: Installation was easy enough and the rubber corners did their job right by now creating vibration.

Cons: None can be found at the moment

Other Thoughts: Best $15.00 ever invested.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Fans

Pros: These fans push a lot of air (and its focused in the center)
Really quiet other than the whooshing of the wind as it goes through
Cable is long and sleeved
Really good quality like Noctual and Corsair but a bit cheaper
4 Pin

Cons: Some would say the orange color but I like it
Can get loud @ 100%
Some of these don't work at horizontal possition

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Fan, Quiet

Pros: Quiet
Easy to Install
Looks Great

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would rate this product 5 eggs, but my fans did not come with mounting screws or a connector. Only the fan was inside the box. I just reuse my old case fan screws.

4 out of 5 eggsGood fans, but

Pros: Pushes a lot of air and is reasonably quiet. It doesn't sound like a hairdryer but more like a whoosh sound of air rushing. The blades have certain grooves to minimize turbulence and noise.

Has rubber on the screw mounts so it will exhibit no rattling*

Cables are sleeved

Cons: *Many reviews will state this and it's a big problem. These are not designed to push air up when mounted horizontally. It will eventually exhibit a clicking, rattling, buzzing sound like a hd that will drive you crazy. I had to remount these as an intake on my radiator because of the sound.

Only 1 year warranty.

Tooless fixed pins are useless. If you can figure out how to mount anything with this you're a genius. I don't know why anyone would advertise this as a selling point.

Other Thoughts: I've been running these for over 3 years on a 24/7 PC on a radiator. Still running strong. And because they are HDB there is no need for maintenance/lubrication. Well besides cleaning the dust off once in a while. A detachable fan blade would have been nice.
