COUGAR VORTEX PWM 120mm Fan: PWM-FUNCTION

PWM-FUNCTION

PWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation. The 4-Pin connector allows the mainboard to control the fan speed from 800-1500RPM. Fan speed is controlled by the PWM-signal, which delivers a value between 0-100%, the operating voltage remains a constant 12V

Oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves, no friction, extremely quiet

HYDRO-DYNAMIC-BEARING TECHNOLOGY

We defined HDB to Hydro Dynamic Bearing. An oil seal design that has a higher reliability and advantage than conventional fan motor design.
1. High revolution precision, low vibration noise
2. Fluid seal design provide extremely long life span
3. Surface tension effect, runs more smoothly with no friction, extremely quiet
Fluid seal design is achieved through the use of oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves. Bend area is centralized oil and prevented oil leakage out of motor (oil leakage is main problem of sleeve bearing, short life time) . Friction between shaft and HDB will be down due to herringbone structure reaction(friction between the metal is disadvantage of ball bearing, noise & waste heat problem). So HDB conquer sleeve & ball bearing disadvantage to become more reliable & quiet technology for Top-notch fan. Such design concept is successful and applicative on HDD, and we can see a reliability application in it.

HDB, Ball, & Sleeve comparison

Sleeve Ball Hydro-Dynamic
revolution precision mediocre good best
vibration noise mediocre loud quiet
life span (hrs) 30,000 50,000 >150,000
waste heat high high low
Cost low high high

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent quaility

Pros: The fan is well made, nearly silent and moves a lot of air. This is not a high static pressure fan, this is a case fan. I wouldn't recommend using this fan for a radiator or air cooler.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: Great case fan. This is my 2nd pair. I have had Cougar fans for about 2 years and have had no problems what so ever with them. This set went into a new build and are humming along flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsSilent fan as low-mid rpm

Pros: These fans are nearly silent up until around the 70% range then you begin to hear them, however they are not loud enough to overpower speakers or headphones. They move a good amount of air as well, just one of these on my cpu cooler lowered the temps by around 3-5C.

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: Have yet to purchase more of these fans to install as case fans, but they are definately SILENT unlike the last fans I bought which sound like a hurricane ripping through my case, despite them being "silent". Would definately recommend these fans!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent fan!

Pros: Man, I love this fan.

- super quiet but moves lots of air
- excellent build quality
- really like the anti-vib pads at contact points

Cons: - poor screwless rubber pins, a pain to install (didn't bother after a while)

Other Thoughts: Get this fan.

3 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: Well built
Very quiet

Cons: Doesn't really move as much air as I expected.

Other Thoughts: This fan has everything going for it, it's very well well built, high quality materials, good packaging, etc. The only problem I have with it is that it really doesn't move very much air... I have five Cooler Master Silencio's and they are just slightly more quiet than these Cougar's, but still they move much more air. I had really high hopes for these Cougars, and I will continue to use the two that I purchased, but unfortunately I don't think I will be buying more of this model-- it is quiet as advertised, but they just aren't as powerful as I want. I would happily buy different Cougar fans in the future though-- they're expensive but obviously use good materials, are well designed, and well built.

5 out of 5 eggsH.O.L.Y..Quiet Airflow FAN Batman..

Pros: These are pretty quiet unless ran at 100%-But who does that?
Works are expected 4 pin fan that allows PWM and works well with it.
By far the quietest fans I have owned.
Plus they generate little to no vibration

Cons: the rubber grommets they send with it are pretty much impossible to install on your case let alone get them inside the mounting bracket hole on the fan. But I tried once and quit mounted the old fashion way... screws.

Other Thoughts: Great Buy
Worth The price...Every Penny if silence and high airflow is your key.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice : Performance champ

Pros: silent low and mid RPM
high air flow
high Static pressure for radiators
long sleeved PWM

Cons: black and orange color scheme
fortunately I got the more black with only orange corners

Other Thoughts: Great fans, have it in Push pull and airflow in my case and 295x2 rads.
Versatile, reviews show this is great value in terms of performance and price and noise. Not to mention great Airflow fan as well as great SP radiator fan. So can be used in all aspects of your build.

5 out of 5 eggsquiet

Pros: well made, very high cfm at ridiculously low rpms, personally the best fans i've seen or heard of at a resonable price. probably better than many that cost more.

Cons: don't judge too quickly, these and a new hd i got all had a short break in, my pc studio seemed to gain a few decibels at first, i could've lived with it because everything cooled so much better without ramping up fan speeds. well after a few days my pc fell dead silent. the cougars are set to run at 600 to 900 rpm only

Other Thoughts: i thought these were a touch louder than my stock fans at first, i was wrong. the cougars cool much better at the lowest rpm possible than my old fans on the highest speed, and those were good fans. but the cougars, especially the one on the cpu are amazing. i had a push pull on my gaia hs and it was way overkill, just one of these on the heat sink, aligned with the same cougar case fan a few inches away dropped my silent pc temps 10c at least, and i soon discovered you don't need to set them up to ramp up. they cool so good at low low rpms that there is little difference when they speed up.

5 out of 5 eggsfrosty and silent

Pros: low noise, high CFM, these push more air and concentrated where you need it. on the lowest speed cooling is better than my stock fans on high. tried a push pull on my gaia cooler and it was way overkill. just needed one fan there, the other cougar in the case ligns up a few inches away anyway. the fans themselves are silent, but you will hear the air movement on higher settings. cpu fan dropped cpu temps under heavy load 5c at 600 rpm 10c + at 1500 rpm. so if silence is the goal, these will cool better at the lowest rpms than any fan i've tried

Cons: cooler mount tabs would've been nice

Other Thoughts: my stock antec and xigmatec fans were silent when not under load, but had to quickly ramp up when the eight cores kicked in. those fans idled at 1000 rpm, maxed out at 2000 rpm and got a lot louder than a quiet pc should be under load. my first thoughts after installing three cougars, one case two cooler, was these are way too loud for me. all were running my usual 1000 rpm. temps were crazy. 23c and wouldn't heat up no matter what you did it stayed in the low 30s. but it was like a small jet engine running. well all the fans as low as possible on my mb 600 rpm, frosty still, very very quiet. that's a lotta fans. i pulled the second one off the cooler it wasn't needed.
