Oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves, no friction, extremely quiet

HYDRO-DYNAMIC-BEARING TECHNOLOGY

We defined HDB to Hydro Dynamic Bearing. An oil seal design that has a higher reliability and advantage than conventional fan motor design.
1. High revolution precision, low vibration noise
2. Fluid seal design provide extremely long life span
3. Surface tension effect, runs more smoothly with no friction, extremely quiet
Fluid seal design is achieved through the use of oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves. Bend area is centralized oil and prevented oil leakage out of motor (oil leakage is main problem of sleeve bearing, short life time) . Friction between shaft and HDB will be down due to herringbone structure reaction(friction between the metal is disadvantage of ball bearing, noise & waste heat problem). So HDB conquer sleeve & ball bearing disadvantage to become more reliable & quiet technology for Top-notch fan. Such design concept is successful and applicative on HDD, and we can see a reliability application in it.

HDB, Ball, & Sleeve comparison

Sleeve Ball Hydro-Dynamic
revolution precision mediocre good best
vibration noise mediocre loud quiet
life span (hrs) 30,000 50,000 >150,000
waste heat high high low
Cost low high high

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: The price is reasonable and the craftsmanship is excellent. The fan moves plenty of air, is silent, and sits well in the case. the rubber on the corners of the fan make it so that the fan does not vibrate.

Cons: None I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This was used to replace the stock 140mm fan that came in my Rosewill challenger case. The fan moves more air (not an outrageous amount more) and feels more solid. A necessary upgrade? No. Worth it? I think so.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Great airflow
Hooked up to a controller and on the lowest setting they still move plenty of air and make almost no noise

Cons: Would like all black, without the orange corners, but close enough compared to the model with the orange blades.

5 out of 5 eggsNice fans.

Pros: I bought these to increase airflow and decrease noise on a Lian Li case that already had decent flow and noise level. It did help lower temps a few degrees, noise level is slightly louder but likely due to adding a top case fan that was closed before.

Cons: Not completely silent.
Wasn't free.

Other Thoughts: Good fans, I like the rubber anti-vibration pads on the corners and the rubber fixed pins.

4 out of 5 eggscougar v14hb

Pros: Very well constructed and very quiet for the amount of air it moves out of my case. No need to use the rubber mounts due to pads on fan frame.

Cons: I have to look and make sure it came on...

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Fans Ever

Pros: Looks Good.

Cons: I have purchased 3 of these fans. 1st fan growls when starts and stop. 2nd fan works well but runs slow 800 RPM.
3rd fan shakes my tower case. and rattles would cost me more to ship it back for a possible 1 out of three chance of getting a passable one. I will not bother with sending it back. Going to use it for target practice. only good it I can see in it.

Other Thoughts: I am starting to see that mail order is more costly in time and unknown results then I care to bother with. not even sure they will put this on line. as others I have entered, have not been.

5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Great airflow.
Very Quiet

Cons: No cons at this time.

Other Thoughts: I bought 4 of these to put on Coolermaster Nepton 280L, and when they begin to spin they keep the cpu cooler than when the system idles. So my idle temps are actually higher than my temps at 25-40% load.

These fans are really good, I feel like the value is definitely there. Airflow/sound level vs price is definitely one of the best.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Product!

Pros: - Moves a lot of air.
- Fan speed adapter cable for silent operation at 700rpm(Very silent indeed)
- Very well built in my opinion, very sturdy. Call me crazy but it almost looks feels like noctua built quality.

Cons: - Not PWM (I knew this before buying)
- None of my monitoring software(HWiNFO64, HWMonitor, AI Suite III) can't detect the chassis fan when connected via adapter for silent operation "only" but without the adapter it can.
- Product states it runs at 1200rpm but mine runs at 1350ish rpm?...

Other Thoughts: This is my first aftermarket fan that I've bought. This fan is placed as a rear exhaust. Now with the pros, I am very pleased with the amount of air it moves with the adapter. It runs at 700rpm and stills moves decent amount of air with low rpm speeds. Without the adapter it moves in my opinion twice as much air and you can really feel it when you place your hand behind your case.

Now some of the cons (very minimal but something to point out) Like I stated before, without the adapter my monitoring software can detect the fan speeds but the speed of this fan is in the 1300rpm range. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad but something to point out. Also this fan without the adapter is very audible I don't wan't to say is particularly very loud but to the point where you can really hear it, this can be a con for some, but like I stated this thing really exhausts a lot of air.

Just to conclude, even with these minimal cons I'm still going to give it 5/5 because I'm not bothered by it. I have it running with the adpater in the end and it's very silent. I'm definitely going to buy 1-3 Cougar fans in the future but this time PWM so you can have more control over them.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I am using 2 140mm fans for my cooler for my laptop. The original fans from the pad where LOUD! Enough complaints from my girlfriend to invest in some HDB Cougar fans. These fans are very easy to install. They are keeping my laptop a lot cooler than the original cooler master fans it came with. They are really quite also at high settings and both fans are pulling lots of cold air through. I have seen people complain about the rubber screws and they worked fine for me, zero issues swapped the fans out in like 2 minutes. Mostly I purchased to try these out for an AMD build this summer. I am very surprised that these fans actually do what is advertised. Don't hesitate on buying these fans even if the orange and black bother you trust me these things are well worth it and I can't wait to order more they are made very well and the cords are all sleeved so it looks super clean compared to some other ones I have seen.

Cons: None that come to mind so far..But I do have to listen in closely to see if the fans are even on haha. Not a complaint but I seriously have to do that.

Other Thoughts: These are 3 pin and come with 4 pin adapters. Will post another review once my AMD build is done. Which will be the true test. My case will be a cougar case and all cougar fans.

5 out of 5 eggsBought a lot of these...

Pros: High quality case fans.
Not loud at all.
Rubber screws for installation.

Cons: Price? You're really paying for quality, here.

Other Thoughts: On a different Cougar fan, the CF-V14S, I was able to mount it horizontally; Some reviews here say that mounting horizontally(?) will cause them to create a loud noise... I have yet to experience this.
I have three of these fans in my case right now, all vertical. (And the one that is horizontal) No noise problems.
