Oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves, no friction, extremely quiet

HYDRO-DYNAMIC-BEARING TECHNOLOGY

We defined HDB to Hydro Dynamic Bearing. An oil seal design that has a higher reliability and advantage than conventional fan motor design.
1. High revolution precision, low vibration noise
2. Fluid seal design provide extremely long life span
3. Surface tension effect, runs more smoothly with no friction, extremely quiet
Fluid seal design is achieved through the use of oil surface tension and hydrodynamic pumping forces provided by grooves. Bend area is centralized oil and prevented oil leakage out of motor (oil leakage is main problem of sleeve bearing, short life time) . Friction between shaft and HDB will be down due to herringbone structure reaction(friction between the metal is disadvantage of ball bearing, noise & waste heat problem). So HDB conquer sleeve & ball bearing disadvantage to become more reliable & quiet technology for Top-notch fan. Such design concept is successful and applicative on HDD, and we can see a reliability application in it.

HDB, Ball, & Sleeve comparison

Sleeve Ball Hydro-Dynamic
revolution precision mediocre good best
vibration noise mediocre loud quiet
life span (hrs) 30,000 50,000 >150,000
waste heat high high low
Cost low high high

5 out of 5 eggsOne of best 140mm Fans

Pros: It's a quiet fan. I use two as top exhaust fans on my Corsair Carbide Air 540 ATX Cube Case. It , also, has great airflow.

Quietness and airflow are the two main qualities that I look for , when buying computer fans. That's why I have three 120mm Noiseblocker M12-S1 as top exhaust fans in my COSMOS II. Why didn't I use these on my Air 540...? Well, the 540 became a test / proving ground for 140mm fans ... Yeah, I've got boxes of rejects...

Cons: The only fault that I see with this is its corners coloring ... .

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: Very Very Very Quiet! I can not say enough about how quiet these fans are. I have 120mm and 140mm fans and I just cannot understand how they made them so quiet. The 140's come with a resistor extension to slow the max speed down which is really cool, but not needed because at full blast these fans are quiet

Cons: It just doesnt seem like they push the air like other 140's I have used in the past. I mean, they work, they are moving air and my case is cool, but I feel something is missing. Hence 4 eggs.

Other Thoughts: I would buy these and I would recommend this brand to others looking to build a quiet PC. I work from home. I sit in the office all day long with PC's right next to me. I don't want to hear them. I want them to work. These fans do the trick. I wish Zalman would make PC cooler fans like this.

5 out of 5 eggsWhoa!

Pros: Using 2 for my Kraken G10 + Kraken x41 on my GTX 770 in Push/Pull. H0ly temp drops Batman!

Going from a pair of NZXT fans in P/P on the X41 to these was... astounding to say the least. With my fan controller running the NZXT fans on 'max' (12 volts) my 770 got to around 47c after a 4 hour session of gaming. With these fans on 'low' (7 volts) it has not broken 44c and is near silent.

Not to bash the NZXT fans, they are fine for being included with the system but just can't compare with a static-pressure fan replacement.

Cons: Wasn't hand delivered by Peyton Manning... Very disappointing!

Other Thoughts: I have had one of these fans for a year and a half as exhaust for my system on low, and I have Cougar 120mm fans for my H100i. So I have had good experience with Cougar fans so far and these did not disappoint.

Synopsis:

-While running on low speed, these beat the the fans they replaced running on high. (Cougar = 44c on low vs Stock = 47c on high)
-While running at max speed my jaw dropped. The temp maxed at 38c with pre-warmed liquid in the system after another hour. (from the earlier 4 hour run) Almost 10c cooler than the other fans!

Replacement fans are expensive and these are no exception, but if you want performance you won't be disappointed here!

5 out of 5 eggsMindblown

Pros: - 30 cm away you don't even know it exists
- Blows air in a cone, not toward the sides, you can feel this with your hand, this can be great or bad depending on your needs. I need it to blow in a cone.
- Hydro-dynamic, apparently that's pretty magical as far as fans are concerned
- Attached to a motherboard with fan controls set to silent, it still blows hard enough to cool you on a hot summer day
- Rubber screw holes to remove any vibration with the case
- Comes with screws, "rubber" screws, whichever you prefer, and additional connectors for slower speed (which I don't think anyone will ever use, since it's so silent), and connector adapter for direct-to power supply attachment.
- Nice packaging with lots of stuff explained on it, if you're into that sort of thing.
- Got it for 13$+ ship on rebate, totally worth it. You can pay 30$+ for an equivalent Noctua and you will gain nothing extra, I know since I have both brands. Noctua is overpriced for no reason.

Cons: - I don't even have that problem people say where you put it horizontally and it makes noise. I put it horizontally and it makes no noise. Can't find anything to complain about

Other Thoughts: Unless you get a faulty model, you won't be disappointing

5 out of 5 eggsgreat fan

Pros: love the fan I have a whole set in one of my towers and they move a lot of air even at lowest rpm's. see other thoughts ....

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: not a con at all here, make sure when mounting these fans that the metal or whatever they are mounted to isn't cheap because it will cause vibration because of the force from these fans. they are made to move air and that they do well....could probably use the motor and blades from this and make a model airplane fly well.

4 out of 5 eggsI'd buy another

Pros: -Quiet
-High CFM
-Looks nice

Cons: Even though the rubber mounts are great for sound they can be slightly difficult to remove without feeling like you are going to break them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: The price is reasonable and the craftsmanship is excellent. The fan moves plenty of air, is silent, and sits well in the case. the rubber on the corners of the fan make it so that the fan does not vibrate.

Cons: None I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This was used to replace the stock 140mm fan that came in my Rosewill challenger case. The fan moves more air (not an outrageous amount more) and feels more solid. A necessary upgrade? No. Worth it? I think so.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Great airflow
Hooked up to a controller and on the lowest setting they still move plenty of air and make almost no noise

Cons: Would like all black, without the orange corners, but close enough compared to the model with the orange blades.
