Based on Noctua's signature NH-U12 series and fitted with the award-winning NF-P12 fan and NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-U12DX 1366 forms a complete premium quality package that provides outstanding quiet cooling performance for Intel's LGA1366 Xeon 5500/5600 CPUs. The new SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA1366 is highly convenient and makes the NH-U12DX 1366 a tailor-made drop-in replacement for standard Intel coolers. To make your Xeon 5500/5600 systems quieter has never been so easy!

Caution: The NH-U12DX 1366 can only be used on mainboards that have a backplate with screw threads for CPU cooler installation (such as the Intel reference backplate for Xeon 5500). The cooler is thus incompatible with Xeon 3500 and Core i7 motherboards that don’t have such a backplate. Please choose Noctua's NH-U12P SE2 for these motherboards.

3 out of 5 eggsNot getting the performance promised

Pros: Build quality, amazing silent fan, mounting system is easy, fantastic customer support. Asus P68d Premium can fit all ram slots and there is good clearance everywhere.

Cons: In my case, not getting the performance others are raving about.. Hence teh 3 stars.. Asus P68d Premium can fit all ram slots and there is good clearance everywhere.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a brevious build to a socket 1366. I had bought this Noctua cooler for a core duo system, and it worked fine. Upon finding out that I could order a mounting kit to use my cooler with new mobo, I contacted Noctua to order kit. They sent one to me free of charge, just had to pay shipping! Mounting was easy. Using the cooler, I get great idle temps, in the 30c range, but under a prime 95 load, I approach the Tjmax temps! up to 90c, This is for a 6 core I7-970, not overclocked. I can OC this CPU easily, but couldn't cool it down.

Something must be wrong... I just can't figure it out. I had a quad core i-930 on this, and I get similar high temps. I reinstalled the cooler, put a little less thermal paste, figuring maybe the surfaces weren't mated well, and it improved things marginally, but nowhere near enough to be able to OC and get the results others are reporting. Maybe the mounting kit sent doesn't mate well with the cooler I have. I've build many systems...

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Fit!

Coming Soon!

Pros: Perfect Fit:

1. In my case (HAF 932: Clearance on side case fan by 1 inch)
2. For my CPU's (Dual Xeon 5620's)
3. For my RAM (KVR1333D3D4R9S/8GHB)*
4. For my cooling needs**
4. For my lifestyle (Sysadmin)

* The fans to have to be removed from the heat sinks in order to get good clearance on the slots closest to each CPU but the clip system makes the fans easy to install/remove. Beats having to remove the CPU cooler and re-apply paste etc. (I have included a vid showing (as best I can) the clearance around the CPU and RAM banks.)

** Stressed all 16 cores simultaneously at 100% for 1 hour. Icy cool :)

Cons: I could see you having clearance issues if you had those RAM sticks with the crazy extended heat dissipating fins, depending on where your RAM banks are in relation to your CPU.

Other Thoughts: If you are buying this product it's because you have an LGA1366 Xeon 5500/5600 CPU. Please take the comments from people with i7 processors with a grain of salt since these coolers were designed specifically for Intel 1366 Xeon's. If you are MacGyver or Hannibal Smith from the 'A' Team, you don't need to read the product overview before you buy a product. Everyone else I highly recommend it, since it says right in there that these are not designed for i7 processors.

5 out of 5 eggsNoctua Devotee

Pros: LOVELY and QUIET!!

I have owned, which appears to be the identical older model of this fan.

IT HAS BEEN AWESOME for years now since 6/3/2009. I am a Noctua convert after using. I find the users here that have knocked the product haven't done their research about the size for their system. I had not built a system on my own before this and didn't find it hard to figure out, nor did I have a problem in any way. One had poor review had some valid comparisons, but I question his results based on my experience with the cooler and others as well.

Love this cooler and especially Noctua fans. Will buy possibly a bigger Noctua for my next system. I have 2x 140mm Noctua and two other case fans and this one on the cooler for the following: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80570E8400 in a cooler master 690 (i7 was out new at the time and reviews were inconclusive at the time)

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again with certainty. Will probably buy newer versions with 140mm fans or something for next system, but the one I have I love still. If it fits the system this is a superb cooler. I was amazed to see anyone's complaints, but after reading them, most are negligible and appear to be bad planning on the users part.

2 out of 5 eggsOK but not great

Pros: Nice looking, good finish and quality, very quiet fan, nice dual fan capability, fits nicely on an Asus Rampage Formula MB (capacitors usually get in the way of other coolers). Generous amount of decent thermal paste.

Cons: Confusing clip for fan, poor documentation (for fan attachment). Look at the website pictures for a clue at how to clip the fan on. Hard to get to the bottom of the fan clips when installed (required, for me, long needle nose pliers). Poor performance relative to other heat sinks, expensive for the level of performance.

BIG. Blocks memory slots and/or can run into heat sinks and other components with two fans. Bad mount design, not nearly as tight as I'd like it to be (which probably accounts for the performance).

Doesn't seem to perform well relative to Thermalright U120eXtrem1366RT. The Thermalright is virtually an identical design but has 6 pipes instead of 4, a better, tighter, mount system, and an easier clip on fan mount. Both are nearly identical in size and shape.

Other Thoughts: The compatibility is sketchy at best but this seems geared towards a Xeon and did not perform well on my i7. When I first seated it, I was getting temps of 49C at idle. I scrapped off the Noctua thermal material and applied some Arctic Silver and tried it again. It dropped to 46C. I noticed that this fan turns a little slow also and doesn't move as much air as others. My case is very well ventilated with 5 120mm fans, and I ensured that the airflow was uniform and properly directed.

By comparison, using a Thermalright U120eXtrem1366RT, with the Noctua thermal material in the exact same configuration, dropped temps to a steady 30C at idle. Using Arctic Silver with the Thermalright dropped the temps further to 28C idle and 45-49C under load for about 3 hours.

Intel i7 960 @ 3.20Ghz
Corsair Obsidian Series 700D (+5 120mm fans)
G.SKILL Ripjaw 4GB mem

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Very cool. Very quiet. Works well. Includes thermal paste.

Cons: Size: but if you want this much cooling of this type, that's kind of inherent.

Other Thoughts: Very big. Its hard to tell in advance whether this will fit in your case. It overlaps the memory in my case, but it is high enough up that its ok. It also comes within an inch of the side cooling fan build into my case, so make sure you case is tall enough.

1 out of 5 eggsIf yoru target is a Socket 32, don't bother

Pros: Quiet operation

Cons: You need to make sure your RAM does not have cooling fins, otherwise they may not fit on some motherboards.

I bought it for an AMD socket C32, but I had to re-engineer the assembly. It's supposed to screw into the CPU anchor, but the screw does not reach. I tried applying a vise to the spring, but it would not budge. I took the spring out, and flipped the bracket around (bracket had a bridge, so I had turn it into a valley). This was not an easy thing to do. I'm sure zero testing wet into this thing. Eve a cursory visual inspection should have told them it does not fit.

Screwing bracket to cooler body is very difficult and be prepared for nicks and cuts.

Assembling the fan is not obvious, and the instructions were not helpful

Other Thoughts: For $75, I expect it to work, and be tested.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing temps. This product delivers!

Pros: Like I said in the title, I'm getting amazing temps on max load than I had gotten with my old intel stock heatsink. It's a huge change.
Heres the comparison

Intel Stock
idle: 45C
load: 70C

idle: 29C
load: 40C

This is a must have!

I put it in caps so people would notice this. I'm not mad or anything. It was a hassle to go and order it on amaz*n, and then I had to deal with the horrible UPS service.
Just make sure to order the brackets along with the heatsink.

5 out of 5 eggsyep

Pros: works great, 20c drop.

Cons: I bought the wrong one!!!!
had to buy the bracket for it, i think it was 15 bucks.
glad they had that available.

Other Thoughts: im kinda wonderin how much cooler it would get with a second fan...maybe someday.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I was worried that these wouldn't fit in the ASUS Z8N-D6 dual Xeon board, since it was standard ATX, but they fit fine.

Installation was a breeze, no problem at all, easier than other large CPU coolers I've had.

Cons: In the ATX board I have, it would not be possible to put two fans on both of the heatsinks, you could put two fans on one of them, but not both, that's not really Noctua's fault, but just in case you are wondering.
