The NH-U9B SE2 continues the legacy of Noctua's classic NH-U9 series of compact premium coolers, which have received more than 100 awards and recommendations from the international press. The new SE2 version lends itself to use in quiet HTPC’s or smaller cases and adds support for LGA1156/1155 as well as LGA1366 via the latest SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system. Topped off with Noctua's award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound as well as two premium-grade NF-B9 fans, the NH-U9B SE2 offers a complete quality package for excellent quiet cooling performance.

Caution: Due to its custom backplate, the NH-U9B SE2 is not compatible with Intel’s Xeon 5500 platform. Please choose Noctua's NH-U9DX 1366 for use on Xeon 5500 systems.

4 out of 5 eggsLouder than expected

Pros: High quality build.
Effective at keeping things cool.

Cons: This computer is in my bedroom and I run it sometimes when the house is quiet and everybody is asleep. I designed the computer to be quite, all the components. And this component is the loudest (excepting the optical drives on start-up). It has two fans, and together they're quite loud. I only run one fan, and I run it on the slowest setting (using the resistor cable that came with it to slow it down) and it's still the loudest thing in the computer.

Edit:
I added a second pair of RAM sticks to my computer and the clips that hold on the fans interfere with the RAM. I got a set with a smaller heat-spreader, but it still interfered. Luckily for me the clips that hold on the fan are just bent wire (like a bent paper clip). I could bend them out of the way, and it worked just fine. It's not really a con for me, because I'm handy, but for many folks needing to modify parts to install their RAM would be a con.

Other Thoughts: Other quite components:
XFX Double D Radeon HD 7770 (quiet, fast, low energy consumption, and cheap)
KINGWIN Absolute Platinum Series AP-550 550W (silent power supply - fan never runs)
Antec Sonata Series SOLO II Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (heavy and quiet. The fan that came with the case is quieter than any of the Noctua fans I've had). (Item#: N82E16811129177)

5 out of 5 eggs5 years later...

Pros: - Still keeping my chips at under 55c prime 95.
- Still quiet
- Still easy to clean
- Still makes me smile every time I look at it.

Cons: - Still none

Other Thoughts: Eventually, when I upgrade to a chipset this thing doesnt support, I'm going to have a REALLY hard time NOT buying another Noctua..

5 out of 5 eggsEffective Cooler

Pros: Cooler effectively cools Intel 4790k in Mini-ITX case. It's only going to cool as effectively as the cool air you're supplying it, but I can set this computer to render an image (100% processor usage for hours) and not see temperatures go above 45 degrees when measured with Asus AI Suite. Smaller than most coolers for a tower, still quite effective.

Cons: Can't think of any, it's a quality bit of kit that comes with everything you need.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty rad

Pros: Compact compared to 120 coolers, awesome noctua colors (a little sarcasm but you can at least say you have one of the best air cooling brands on the market). Keeps my 1150 i5 around 30 degrees at 3.8ghz when im servicing my pcs water cooling loop. This is usually in my home theater pc and is awesome for that due to its small size, quietness, and efficiency.

Cons: I really have none. Some people might dislike the colors, but i say they are scrubs and dont understand that noctuas are the choice for air cooling

Other Thoughts: If you want a cheap cooler that will do the job and is quiet then get this thing. If you are a nut for better cooling, i would also suggest looking into noctuas larger coolers and i promise you wont be disappointed. only reason i got the small one was space requirements and im not upset with what this thing can do.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Knocked 40 Degrees Celcius off my CPU temps when video processing. Easy installation. Very, very quiet using both fans, there is the option to use only one. Comes with the thermal paste which saves buying it separate. Easy installation , no problems, the directions are super easy to understand.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Newegg delivered very quickly. Very happy with the Service.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: it's cool. (pun intended)

Cons: it's a bit smaller in person
and orientation on AMD is limited to vertical only.. so you'll be blowing the hot air up.. (theoretically sucking in hot gpu air)
or you could blow air down using the top as intake (think htpc) now it's the side.
never my preferred mounting orientation, I prefer to exhaust out the rear of the case. pulling fresh cool air in.
Googled this issue and found noctua does offer a mounting bracket for free to mount this correctly.
guess it was just an "oops" during manufacturing.

4 out of 5 eggsLove the heatsink

Pros: Heatsink is very high quality and has very high performance
CPU runs cool even under stress test

Cons: Not a fan of the 2 fans come with it.
It's not PWM fan to start with, and it makes a noticeable but slight click noise. It's not loud but the nature of the sound is annoying.

Other Thoughts: Locking mechanism may interfere with your RAM on mini ITX build. Plan ahead.
One fan IS enough for non OC
To be fair, the stock intel cooler also make a similar clicking noise, but I didn't pay extra to get the same quality. Going to try replace the fan with a Noctua NF-A9 PWM see if things get better.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Really nice it fits my LGA 1150 socket no issues what so ever, easy instructions, easy install. CPU temperature at max load for my i5 is 55C which is really nice to see after using the stock cooler for so long.

Cons: None its quiet and I like it.

4 out of 5 eggsCheck your RAM clearance on mITX builds

Pros: Overclocked i7-4790K idles at 34 C, got it up to 57 C with prime95. I'm using both fans, pointing out the back of my Corsair 380T. Not too loud either.

Cons: The RAM in the slot closest to the CPU on my mITX board cannot have a cooler on it. There is exactly enough space for a bare stick of RAM to fit under this cooler. My mobo is an ASUS z97i-plus.

Other Thoughts: The directions that come with it are a bit hard to follow but I was able to figure it out with a little tinkering.

5 out of 5 eggsVery effective cooler

Pros: Keeps CPU cool. about 30C on idle, 40C ish on load, Never break 50 for me.

Cons: it's big so make sure you plan your layout well

Other Thoughts: For mITX build, the cooler is very likely to get in the way of RAM.
Installing only 1 fan would fix this issue. Or install it in another direction.
I had no problem running just 1 fan, even quieter.
