The classic NF-R8 80mm fan helped to found Noctua’s reputation as a top-tier manufacturer of premium quality quiet cooling components and still impresses users with its exquisite quietness and superb performance. The new PWM version features Noctua’s novel, custom designed PWM IC for fully automatic control and ultra-low power consumption. Equipped with Noctua’s signature SSO bearing and topped off with a 6 years manufacturer’s warranty, the NF-R8 PWM is a proven premium choice for the highest demands.

  • newegg Proven NF-R8 Design Tens of thousands of quiet cooling enthusiasts swear by Noctua’s classic NF-R8. Its impressive quietness, excellent performance and impeccable, time-tested quality made the R8 a default choice for 80mm quiet cooling.
  • newegg Custom designed PWM IC with SCD Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-R8 PWM uses Noctua’s novel, custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at lower speeds.
  • newegg Low-Noise Adaptor The NF-R8 PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1800 to 1300rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 1300rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.
  • newegg Extensive Cabling Options The fan’s short 20cm primary cable minimises cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary. Both cables are fully sleeved and a 4-pin y-cable allows you to connect a second NF-R8 fan to the same PWM fan header for automatic control.
  • newegg SSO-Bearing Combining the proven concept of hydrodynamic bearing with an additional magnet that supports the self-stabilisation of the rotor axis, Noctua’s time-tested SSO-Bearing technology has become synonymous with supremely quiet operation and exceptional long-term stability.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT QUALITY PRODUCT

Pros: This is one of the best quality product i ever got, the packaging, accessories, the fan itself, i never bought Noctua before but i am sold, i will definitly buy again.

Cons: There is none but ill admit it that it is still a little pricey compare to other brands of fans, but for the quality, its tottaly worth it

Other Thoughts: Bought 5 of these to air a old thermaltake xaser III, ambiant temperature is around-25-30 max, not that bad for 80mm fans

5 out of 5 eggsQuietly Ugly

Pros: It's a PWM fan, so its speed is variable based on temperature. Can get faster (louder) when it needs to move more air, but usually operates at low RPM and is very quiet. High quality product with extra wires to suit different installations. Got this with the 20% off coupon that is sometimes offered for case fans.

Cons: I'm going to point his out just to say it: It's a super ugly color. They couldn't just go with black or grey? Pinkish brown tones? Really?

Other Thoughts: It really is fugly to look at. I'm complaining because I have a clear sided case and because I like to complain when I write reviews. I still gave it 5 eggs though because it works the way it's supposed to and it looks like it does in the picture and I knew what I was buying.

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet!

Pros: Quiet, PWM, Quieter than fan it replaced.

Cons: Moves less air than fan it replaced.

Other Thoughts: Bought this so I could enable motherboard control of fan speed on AMD CPU cooler. Not much point in that since this fan has to run a full or almost full speed to cool. Even at top speed it is quieter than the Cougar 140mm fan next to it. Using this in a nMedia wooden case with a Phenom quad core.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Quiet and Strong.

Cons: Silicon dampener plugs hard to install due to my cases's design. Not Noctua's fault.

Other Thoughts: Wonderful, worth the money. I would go all Noctua f I could somehow put one on my GFx card. :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan

Pros: quiet
puts out a decent amount of air
tons of accessories and cables
great build quality
braided cable

Cons: not the best fan aesthetically, but for the great performance i can put up with that

Other Thoughts: used it to replace a cpu fan for a 3 Ghz core 2 duo, even when it does spin up at load i cant even hear it over the sound of my hard drives

5 out of 5 eggsGood fans.

Pros: Absolute quiet, even at 80% it's barely noticeable. Also when PWM kicks in and changing the rpm, the noise is smooth. However, like every other fans on the market, once the fan is at 100%, the noise is starting to be noticeable (80mm fans are noisy). But it's still quieter than most fans.

Cons: NOTHING. It's Noctua, bro.

Other Thoughts: Replaced my SilenX fans (these babies run at 3000 rpm and ~30 dB!) as case fans. Now my computer is finally quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsReview

Pros: Silent in the PWM mode when surfing the internet and low power usage on the computer. Very helpful responses from Noctua tech/customer support before I purchased the fan. It works with a 3 pin header also, but at max RPM, unless you use one of the adapters that lower the max RPM. When all of my i5 3470 cores are at 100% load and core temps at 43C, I still can’t hear it. Since I couldn’t get my hand in all the places to attach the rubber isolators for the fan because of a very tight fit on my tower (no fault of the fan), I used a separately purchased rectangular Thermaltake green silica gel noise dampener, which was very easy to use with four screws. This fan is probably the best 80 mm PWM case fan on the market. If you’re only buying one fan then I suggest you don’t hesitate, and pay the extra money. It’s worth it. Besides an extender and the adapters that lower the max RPM if you want to do that, it comes with a Y-splitter, so if you want, you can connect all of your PWM fans so a single header on the motherboard. But it’s not required. I think the Arctic PWM case fans operate the same way, with using the multi-connector being optional, but Arctic doesn’t make that very clear. If you have to buy many fans then maybe the higher price changes things. I previously tried a non PWM SilenX 1700 RPM 15 dBA blue LED fan. It was installed at the front of my tower. It was quiet to very quiet, but I could hear it (although in contrast with charts that state a pin hitting the floor makes an essentially silent 15dBA sound). I had to throw the SilenX away since I wanted a silent system in normal use, and return shipping equaled the cost of the fan. It was sad doing that. I would rate the SilenX as a quality fan also. I bought the SilenX because I wanted the blue light, but as of this writing, no one makes a 80mm PWM blue LED case fan.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: none

5 out of 5 eggsNoctua

Pros: Simply the best fans out there.

Cons: Only con is that every time I get a 20% off all fans coupon from newegg, all of a sudden almost every noctua fan is sold out and as soon as the coupon expires they all seem to be back in stock. Kinda funny

Other Thoughts: need more noctua fans for other projects
