The NH-L9i is a premium quality quiet CPU cooler for Intel LGA115x based HTPCs and Small Form Factor systems. At a super-low profile of only 37mm, the NH-L9i is ideal for extremely slim cases and due to its 95x95mm footprint, it provides full compatibility with tall RAM modules and VGA cards on mini-ITX mainboards. The custom designed SecuFirm2™ mounting system for LGA115x makes installation a child's play and thanks to the highly optimised NF-A9x14 premium fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9i runs remarkably quiet. Topped off with Noctua's renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9i fuses everything users have come to expect from Noctua's larger coolers into a super-compact package for slim HTPC systems.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive little heatsink.

Pros: It's a very good heatsink. I replaced the stock fan, without trying it out (see other thoughts for details) but my temps remain low. It was probably the absolute easiest thing in the world to install. Just four screws! Better than stock, and looks a lot better too. The thermal paste is good quality.

Cons: Being a smaller cooler, and my own mistake on applying a bit too much compound at first (or not enough), upon first powering on my system it would shut off automatically. It did this for about six or seven tries, each time getting longer, before the thermal compound was able to spread out properly. It was my board automatically shutting off to prevent thermal damage. The paste just needed some burn in. And the regular complaint of Noctua's ugly default fan color. Neither of these were large enough problems to deduct an egg.

Other Thoughts: So, my set up. I've got an i5 4590S (3.0 GHz, 65W TDP), paired with a GTX 670 4GB, inside an In Win 901 (mini-ITX mid tower size case). I'm using three fans total for my system, a front 120mm SilenX Effizio 12-15 (120mm) intake fan. One SilenX Effizio 09-15 (92mm fan) as an exhaust for the case. I also used this same 92mm fan as a replacement fan for the included Notcua, as the on-paper specs were slightly better and it matched my component/color scheme. My idle temperature right now while typing this review is 34C, in a room about 24/25C. So idle is only around 10C above, while after testing my GPU in Furmark for 15 minutes, and letting the case interior get hot as well as the CPU, the CPU only heated up at most to 45C. So, I'm absolutely positive this cooler can handle regular wattage CPU's like an i5 4570 or i7 4770/4790K. I wouldn't recommend it for overclocking, definitely. But it is a great cooler for the money, in any scenario. Specifically in small form factor builds.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler - Excellent Support

Pros: Easy install. Lowest clearance I've seen with the stock fan and easily fit in a Lian-Li Q03 ITX case. Replaced a stock intel HS/Fan that was just too noisy for this use case (sits on my wife's desk about 2.5 feet from her ears). Extra screws included if you want to use a standard width fan. Keeps a G3258 @ 34 degrees while idle, 44 at full load. More importantly for me, it's dead silent. I run the fan at 75% at full load. Not getting any lower temps at higher fan speeds.

Cons: None really. My fan failed after about a month. Noctua support was great so no egg off. Parts fail sometimes. It's a drag but it happens.

Other Thoughts: Fan started making a really loud ticking and whining noise after about a month of use. Contacted Noctua and they responded promptly and shipped out a replacement straight away. Was REALLY glad they included the longer screws as I just put in a different 92mm fan I had until the replacement arrived. The screws do not reach all the way through the fan but thats by design. The screw "receptacles" are raised slightly off the top of the cooler and the fan fits neatly on top of these, and the supplied screws work perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggs6 months later

Pros: -small
-quality
-excellent Rma
-low noise adapter makes it quiet

Cons: Not really any cons
Does install weirdly but with a plan or a second pair of hands it's easy

Other Thoughts: 3 months in the fan went bad. Emailed noctua and got a response in less than 24 hours. Rma had me take a picture of my id and the fan side by side after I was told to break one fin. They shipped a new one next day. No muss no fuss.

FYI, they rated their own fan harshly. It's been cooling a 3570k with the low noise adapter. 50 core/ 40-55 socket. Pretty darn legit

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome cooler for small space

Pros: I bought this to go with my new mini ITX build, and it works great. Small height means it fit easily into an ITX case (Node 304), but it still does great cooling.

I can barely hear the fan unless I get really close, and my Intel 4590 stays around 35-40C at medium usage.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Awesome cooler if space is a concern. I'm not doing any overclocking, so I'm not sure how it deals with high load cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsWhisper-quiet, tiny, and WAY cooler than stock! Handles i7-4770k

Pros: Can potentially be completely silent depending on the fan profile you choose, but will be quiet no matter what. Even shorter than the stock Intel. A bit weighty, but not bad - just lets you know the heatsink is legit. Keeps the CPU VERY cool, I had this on a stock i7-4770k inside a TINY Lian Li PC-TU100B Mini-ITX case, believe it or not - above what it's rated to be used with - and it stayed in the 60's to 70's under heavy load - VERY impressive!

Cons: a bit pricey, but for its niche, it really can't be beat, to my knowldge.

Other Thoughts: Noctua has a unique and slightly ugly color scheme, IMO - but I don't have a window on my tiny case, so...

5 out of 5 eggsBest Low Profile Cooler

Pros: *Dead Silent
*Hefty
*Easy mounting on LGA1150
*Thermal Goop is pretty good
*Alot better cooling and noise vs stock intel
*Includes a nice METAL case badge

Cons: *50 bucks is kind of alot compared to the competition

Other Thoughts: This is the best low-profile CPU cooler, well worth the money. Using it in a FreeNAS box with a cheapo Celeron G1820-- So I'm not really using its full potential.Chip idles at 33*C and is load at 39*C when doing large file transfers.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good but no miracles here though!

Pros: Much better than Intel's stock cooling unit.
When heavy gaming my Noctua NH-L9i 95mm SSO2 CPU Cooler keeps my Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell CPU under 60 C degrees when fan is Full speed. Real Quiet fan! Easy install without removing Mobo. Great thermal paste. Extra long screws for a fatter fan up to 25mm.

Cons: Must run NH-L9i fans at full speed to keep CPU cool enough in gamming.

Other Thoughts: Temp based using a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H-CF mobo. & a Fractal Design Core 3000 Full-size ATX Case (5 case fans that run in a push/pull configure). Plus G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900). Also Evga 760 2g Nvidia card (non-superclocked) Samsung 120SSD & 500 WD Black HD

5 out of 5 eggscomputer tech

Pros: LOVE NOCTUA they make amazing heatsinks, my stock cooler only gave me 36 on idle which i felt was too much for not doing anything, I replaced that junk with one of these and it is like night and day, i was idling at 26-28 and during gaming loads was getting about 42degrees amazing heat sink

Cons: the heat sink is too low for the motherboard, had to return it and stick with a rosewill low profile heat sink which only dropped the temp down to 33 which isnt that bad, considering it was only half the price.

Other Thoughts: GREAT HEATSINK, easy to install

5 out of 5 eggsquality

Pros: -Very solid quality and assembly
-Aesthetically pleasing
-Virtually silent
-Improves cooling

Cons: -Have to flip mobo to install
-Cooling gains are not massive - if you need more cooling and have a little extra space, go for something with a larger heat sink

Other Thoughts: You need to be mindful of how you install it, as it blows heat on other components.
