The NF-A4x10 FLX features advanced aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels and Noctua’s AAO frame, which make it a highly optimised, premium quality quiet fan in 40x10mm size. Smooth Commutation Drive technology and Noctua’s reference class SSO2 bearings guarantee superb running smoothness and excellent long-term stability. Topped off with modular cabling, a Low-Noise Adaptor and OmniJoin Adaptor Set, the NF-A4x10 is a premium choice for the highest demands.

  • newegg Designed to cool The NF-A4x10 impeller features suction side Flow Acceleration Channels to reduce suction side flow separation for better efficiency and lower vortex noise. The reduced motor hub size allows for more blade surface area and thus contributes to the NF-A4x10’s superior airflow and pressure performance.
  • newegg Cools quietly Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s unique Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency. The Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) is supplied to reduce the maximum fan speed from 4500 to 3700rpm so that it can be fine-tuned for superior airflow or maximum quietness. And the latest version of Noctua’s advanced Smooth Commutation Drive system ensures superb running smoothness by eliminating torque variations and switching noises.
  • newegg SSO2 Bearing The NF-A4x10 features the further optimised second generation of Noctua’s renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilisation, precision and durability.
  • newegg 3 to 2-pin Adaptor and Polarity Protection The NF-A4x10 comes with an adaptor from 3-pin Molex to the 2-pin connectors used on many graphics cards or network and storage devices. An integrated diode provides polarity protection on 2-pin connections.
  • newegg OmniJoin Adaptor Set Many devices featuring 40mm fans use proprietary fan headers, so the NF-A4x10 comes with Noctua’s OmniJoin Adaptor Set. Just cut the original fan’s cable, fix it to the adaptor using the supplied 3M Scotchlok connectors and you can plug the NF-A4x10 to proprietary fan headers!
  • newegg Extensive Cabling Options The fan’s short 20cm primary cable minimises cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary. Both cables are fully sleeved.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely perfect for cooling low power 1U devices in an office environment

Pros: These little fans are amazing. Airflow is comparable to the fans found in 1U routers and switches. The noise is not. Blessed quietness rather than screaming fans.

We have retrofitted these fans into several managed switches and small routers that are used inside the office. Large scale stuff can make all the noise it wants in a server rack but none of want to work around fan noise at our desks. Boxes that are low power can be quieted down even further by using Noctua's included low noise adapters.

Noctua thought these fans out carefully. Along with the traditional fan header, Noctua includes an adapter that can be used with devices having custom fan headers.

Reliability appears to be up to Noctua standards. We've had some of these fans operating 24/7 since 2013 with no failures and not running any noisier than when they were new.

If your device has compatible holes. the rubber mounting plugs reduce vibration as well.

Cons: I would not recommend these fans for a server or any other device consuming significant power. They don't blow anywhere close to the amount of air that the 12K RPM screamers on your 1U server push.

Other Thoughts: For anything other than extreme cooling needs, these fans are perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fans

Pros: I've mounted these fans/ replaced fans in my small 1u rack routers, switches and servers for the past 3 or 4 years and in every case they have provided adequate cooling for a fraction of the noise profile. They come with lots of mounting and power options

Cons: A little on the expensive side.

Other Thoughts: Worth the money and will buy again

5 out of 5 eggsNice Fan for Raid Cards

Pros: - Fits the Adaptec 6405E 2271700-R RAID Controller.
- For a 40mm it's quiet even without the low noise adapter.

Cons: - Price

Other Thoughts: I ordered this as a splurge to attach to my Adaptec 6405E 2271700-R RAID Controller. It fits and it's pretty quiet given it's size even without the low noise adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsI love these things.

Pros: You get what you pay for. These things are pretty silent, are perfectly sized to mount on all sorts of add-on-card heatsinks, and light enough not to care about the added weight stressing anything. Comes with all sorts of optional mounting stuff as well as extensions and adapters for connecting it to various power options.
I've had a few running for years with no issues.

Cons: Absolutely nothing.
The price is higher than a lot of alternative options but, again, I think you're getting what you pay for here.

Other Thoughts: Just bought 6 more to have around!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for RAID Card

Pros: - quiet
- works for what I tried it for

Cons: - na

Other Thoughts: I bought this to screw down on to the heatsink of an LSI 9266-9i RAID card. Anyone who's owned an LSI card knows the chips run hot and need some dedicated cooling, and for some unknown crazy reason LSI doesn't offer anything for this.

I'd heard of others grabbing 40mm fans & screwing them down on to the heatsink and figured I'd give it a try. Works like a charm!! Keeps the cards chip under 55C full time.

3 out of 5 eggsbest made ugly fan

Pros: I haven't received my fan yet, I just purchased it. But I'd like to share my plan.

I'm building a X-99 PC and booting off of a Samsung 950 M2 NVMe SSD and that drive is known to run hot and throttle back when over heated.

Cons: As a geek I may dress like a hobo myself, but I am however particular about the aesthetics of my IT hardware. Noctua may make the best made, most reliable, best performing 40mm fan but as something sitting in the center of my window I wish it were not so g@wd awful ugly color wise.

Other Thoughts: I'll make a little pedestal and velcro the little fan down to blow directly on Samsung drive to keep it cool at all times.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat!

Pros: They are very quiet fans, and they come with a bunch of additional parts.

The extension cable is just that.

The low noise adapter is very useful, and adds a slight amount of length to the fan cable.

The two pin adapter is for some specific 2 pin pin headers. Personally I used this adapter and removed the existing connector and replaced it with the 2 pin connector I needed. I had the needed connectors and pins and crimper already.

There is also a 2 wire adapter that you have to splice to your existing connector. I did not use this as does not look as nice.

I used 2 fans in a older model D-Link DGS-1024D that had two fans (current models are fanless). In my quiet living room, I needed the low noise adapters as my little IKEA RAST rack would amplify the noise. But after installing the low noise adapter the switch still stays cool and I can no longer hear it.

I personally used the fan screws instead of the special vibration reducing things, as I added fan grills (I modified the case).

Cons: None found so far.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these from another retailer, but they are great.

I've had them for about 2 months, so I cannot say what the lifespan is.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fairly quiet for a 40mm fan, easy to install with noctua's wonderful included anti vibration mounts.

Cons: WAY too much packaging?? Same size box as noctua's 120mm fans and 90% of it ends up being air, come on guys, save a tree!

Other Thoughts: Installed in a "fanless" pfSense router / firewall as an emergency measure set to turn on at max temp to ensure continued operation under high temperatures (in case of air conditioning failure, etc).

5 out of 5 eggsReally silent for HP Procurve Switch

Pros: Had installed two of thoses inside an HP procurve 24 port switch to make it "office" compilent instead of "server room" compilent. The switch is now cold to the touch with just a little airflow thoses fan produces and they are totally inaudible.

I have tested also
EVERCOOL FAN-EC4010M12CA 40mm Case Cooling Fan
and
SUNON HA40201V4-0000C-C99 40mm Case cooler

This fan is the best purshased you can make out of thoses 3. The evercool sounds really cheap, feel like the bearing will not last long. The sunon is too expensive for nothing, i could make it work very well with the noctua and the noctua is the more silent of the 3 fans, connected directly to the board (without low noise adapters).

Cons: There is WAY too much packaging for what i like. I disagree using over packaged items, it's not green at all. It's only a fan, just a simple box with items trowed in it would had been enough!

Other Thoughts: Well see if it will last over time but running at slow speed (about 6-7v) i do believe it will last long.

5 out of 5 eggsA new bar for quality

Pros: Correct size I needed, 40x10mm. Superior quality packaging, with every conceivable connector. Fan is very quiet. Mounted well even in my uncommon situation.

Cons: Doesn't push as much air as the fan it replaced, but it doesn't generate 1/10th the noise either. A fair trade for me in the device it was placed as I'm not putting an enterprise load on the switch.

Tad expensive.

Other Thoughts: Used this to replace a fan in an expensive enterprise switch I bought used. Had to transpose the red and black wires on the 3-pin connector, and it works great. While not moving as much air across the PSU of the switch as the previous fan, it has a much better bearing instead of a sleeve, and is very quiet. Plus, there are four other 40mm fans of various depths helping to keep the PoE switch cool. Very awesome.
