A great combination of performance and features, the NF-S12A has set a new standard for case fan and received more than 250 awards and recommendations from the international press. The NF-S12A improves the airflow/noise efficiency of its renowned predecessor by up to 8% with a further refined blade design with Anti-Stall Knobs that works in tandem with the new AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frame. The PWM version sports Noctua’s custom designed NE-FD1 IC for fully automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers and comes with a Low-Noise-Adaptor to reduce the maximum speed during PWM control from 1200 to 900rpm. With superb running smoothness, SSO2 bearing and Noctua’s trusted premium quality, it is a perfect choice for customers who want to enjoy quiet case cooling.

  • newegg Award-winning S12 design The NF-S12A features the third evolution of Noctua’s classic Straight Blade Design that has earned its S12 series countless recommendations from hardware journalists and enthusiasts around the world. Further optimised for even better airflow/noise efficiency, it makes the NF-S12A an ideal quiet case fan.
  • newegg Cools quietly Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s unique Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency. And the latest version of Noctua’s advanced Smooth Commutation Drive system ensures superb running smoothness by eliminating torque variations and switching noises.
  • newegg SSO2 Bearing The NF-S12A features the further optimised second generation of Noctua’s renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilisation, precision and durability.
  • newegg Low-Noise Adaptor The NF-S12A PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1200 to 900rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 900rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.
  • newegg Extensive Cabling Options The fan’s short 20cm primary cable minimises cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary. Both cables are fully sleeved and a 4-pin y-cable allows to connect a second fan to the same PWM fan header for automatic control.

5 out of 5 eggsThe perfect 120mm exhaust fan.

Pros: No turbulent blade noise at full RPM (unlike the Noctua NF-F12). Just a nice whoosh air sound. No motor noise either (this is the best part about Noctua design... it's consistently good due to high quality control).

Cons: Needs more colors, of course. A black frame would be nicer in my all black build, but it's not too bad because I'm mostly concerned about performance but still... They could even keep the reddish/brown blade, it's the bright cream color that's distracting to me. It's just that no other company makes such a well designed exhaust fan and after seeing this one, I knew I only wanted this one, so a "dark theme" Noctua fan (which is not industrial) is sorely needed. They'd probably sell even more fans that way. JUST DO IT, NOCTUA!

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, it's not a static pressure fan, so one can't use it on a CPU cooler very effectively. The choice for that is a Noctua NF-F12 which has a generic blade design that is noisy at high RPM. This one sounds so much nicer than the NF-F12 at full speed. I wish there was a static pressure version that used the NF-S12A as a base to evolve another design from.

5 out of 5 eggsKick_ss fan

Pros: I wonder if these are on MaxPC kick_ss list of components, will have to check.
Replaced an old fan that was making a racket.
Glad I did, these fans are slick!
PWM control and near silent operation.
Solidly built and attention to detail is apparent.
Buy these over anything, bit pricey but worth it!
Don't see the point of limiting the speed with the adapter's it comes with, they aren't loud at all to justify that.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsBest fans I've ever bought

Pros: The quality of these fans is without equal. And the anti-vibration pads, mounting plugs, extension cord, splitter, and low-noise adapter are high quality and good value. You also get a set of standard screws.

Cons: The only item you don't get in the box is a power adapter cable to run these off a 4-pin molex or sata power plug. This was not an issue for me because I used the motherboard PWM headers. Most people buying premium fans are probably using motherboard headers or a fan controller anyway and don't miss the exclusion 4-pin adapter.

Other Thoughts: Some people don't like the color. I hate case windows and I can't see inside my case, so as far as I'm concerned, the color is irrelevant. I'd still buy them if they were hot pink.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best of the Best

Pros: Fun is a polished and mature, innovative design from the highest quality company. Amazing amount of air moved at such low RPM, and without noise, except at the highest speed. At middle and low speeds controlled by the BIOS there is no noice, below 20dbA.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Noctua is the price leader but the performance leader also.

5 out of 5 eggsProven performer

Pros: Quiet cooling with no hassles.
Lots of quality electrical extensions.
If you don't like replacing fans every so often, these make up for the expence.

Cons: none.
If your cheap, you won't like the price.

Other Thoughts: Used Noctua fans in the past - there still operating quietly after 3 years on a 3 fan radiator.
Replaced 2 standard 120mm fans that were failing inside the case with these Noctua fans. Made a huge difference in air movement and quietness.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality - Super Quiet - Ugly

Pros: These things are very well built, and I was especially pleased with the quality of the plastic and wiring / cables. They also include a bunch of extra cables.

These are very quiet. I'm running three of them in my case and the thing is near silent.

Cons: They are ugly. I wish they offered these in black.

Pros: Quieter than any other case fans i have had
absolutely no clicking from the bearings, its smooth

Good amount of airflow

Cons: None, and you shouldn't hate on the brown color

Other Thoughts: I should have bought the static pressure version instead of the airflow version, this fan is being used on a radiator
