With excellent cooling capacity and superb low operation noise, the Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm fan is a great choice for overclockers and DIY professionals. Featuring a square 140mm frame, this case fan is compatible with gaming cases with 140mm mounting holes, as well as 140mm water cooling radiators. An array of sophisticated aerodynamic design, such as Flow Acceleration Channels, ensures class-leading cooling to tame your high-end system, while its rugged SSO2 Bearing and metal bearing shell deliver strength and durability for lasting, worry-free performance. The custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC allows fully automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers. An included Low-Noise-Adaptor can be used when necessary, to reduce maximum speed from 1500rpm to 1200rpm for quieter environment.

Succeeding the award-winning NF-P14

General information

Noctua’s NF-P14 fan has become a default-choice among PC enthusiasts looking for a premium quality quiet 140mm fan. Thanks to its thoroughgoing aerodynamic optimizations, the NF-A14 provides higher static pressure and an even better airflow/noise ratio than its much acclaimed predecessor.

Square 140mm frame

General information

The NF-A14’s square 140mm frame with 140mm mounting holes (124.5mm spacing) makes it a premium grade replacement for common 140mm case fans and perfect for use on 140mm water cooling radiators, where its square shape will ensure full coverage and best pressure performance.

Flow Acceleration Channels

General information

The NF-A14 impeller features suction side Flow Acceleration Channels. By speeding up the airflow at the crucial outer blade regions, this measure reduces suction side flow separation and thus leads to better efficiency and lower vortex noise.

AAO Frame

General information

Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s exclusive Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency.

Stepped Inlet Design

General information

Noctua’s Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx in order to facilitate the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow, which reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment and increases suction capacity, especially in space restricted environments.

Inner Surface Microstructures

General information

With the tips of the fan blades ploughing through the boundary layer created by the Inner Surface Microstructures, flow separation from the suction side of the blades is significantly suppressed, which results in reduced blade passing noise and improved airflow and pressure efficiency.

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads

General information

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads made from extra-soft silicone minimize the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with all standard screws and other mounting systems.

SSO2 Bearing

General information

The NF-A14 features the further optimized second generation of Noctua’s renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilization, precision and durability.

Metal bearing shell

General information

In order to guarantee the highest possible degree of manufacturing precision, minimum tolerance and excellent long-term stability, the NF-A14 sports a CNC milled bearing shell made entirely from brass.

Custom designed PWM IC with SCD

General information

Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-A14 PWM uses Noctua’s novel, custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at low speeds.

Low-Noise Adaptor

General information

The NF-A14 PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1500 to 1200rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 1200rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.

Extensive cabling options

General information

The fan’s short 20cm primary cable minimizes cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary. Both cables are fully sleeved, and a 4-pin y-cable allows you to connect a second NF-A14 PWM fan to the same PWM fan header for automatic control.

5 out of 5 eggsAll pros, no cons.

Pros: Build Quality is incredible.
Powerful CFM airflow, reasonable static pressure.
Silent. Even at max speed it is close to inaudible.

Cons: None. You get what you pay for, and Noctua is one of the best no matter which item you look at.

Other Thoughts: Caveat: The "A" model fans are optimized for high air flow (case fans) and I have only used this model for that purpose. I have NOT tested it as a radiator fan, although the paper specs say it offers pretty good static pressure. Noctua also makes a NF-P14s Redux model ("P" for "pressure"), not sure how it compares.

I learned about and switched to Noctua in mid-2014 for all my fans in any build. I have six of these fans running in two builds right now, along with two NF-S12A case fans, two NF-F12 pushing a 2x120mm radiator, and four NF-A15 pushing and pulling two NH-U14s air coolers. I have NEVER had any problem with any of these PWM fans.

Whether idle or during gaming, I only know they are running by checking my monitoring software. The only time I can hear them (my cases are very open with no sound dampening, by the way) is when I use the controller or a stress tester like Prime95 to artificially raise the speeds/temps to maximum.

If you are willing to spend money for the best, I don't see how you can go wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding quality

Pros: Very Quiet
Substantial Feeling.
Superior to Corsair 140SP, significantly. And worth the extra money if you care about noise.

Cons: Does not screw into my front fan bay of my Corsair 350D case. Not with included hardware or case hardware. Doesn't seem to be a major issue, as they fit snugly.

Other Thoughts: Hesitated at first, bought 2 Corsair SP140's last year. Wish I'd saved that money and bought these in the first place.
Ordering 2 120mm's for my h100i GTX next.
All my future fan purchases will be Noctua

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a Noctua fan...'nuff said!

Pros: Works great like all the Noctua fans I've installed the last 3 years +. Love the optional low noise cables, the rubber stoppers (plugs). Easy to install, low maintenance, and they just plain work as advertised. Quality is worth the price!

Cons: Having a con on a new noctua fan would be news.

Other Thoughts: Many don't like the appearance of the tan/brown fans. The majority are placed where they can't be seen anyway. I don't have a problem with the colors. If someone really has an issue with the colors and knows anything about mods, paint 'em!

5 out of 5 eggsQuite + Warrenty

Pros: These fans are very quite, even at full speed. Noctua fans are well worth the investment, since you're not only buying the fan but also the assurance that Noctua will deliver what they claim. They also provide a very generous warranty, unlike other fans and businesses these days. It's a pity most businesses stepped away from manufacturing QUALITY products, to fill their deep piggy pockets, and not stand behind them. Thumbs up Noctua.

Cons: 1) None, despite my earlier claim that these fans were causing the vibration/rattling in my Corsair 540, the issue ended up being the fans included with the NZXT Kraken X61 cooling solution.

2) Price, but as noted in the Pros you receive a quality warranty indicating that Noctua stands by their products. No other fan manufacturer provides such warranty. It's not a "Con" per-say, but an iteration and assurance for other folks who may stray from purchasing these quality fans. However... #3 ... watch out for sleazy businesses doubling the prices on these.

3) Be VERY careful with the 3rd party vendors offering these fans, they'll jack the prices up beyond what could be considered acceptable.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Silent
Cools very very well

Cons: Didn't fit in the front of my R4

Other Thoughts: Ordered 3, 2 for intake and 1 exhaust. Unfortunately they did not fit in the front of my r4 even though 140mm fans can fit in it.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite + Warrenty

Pros: These fans are very quite, even at full speed. Noctua fans are well worth the investment, since you're not only buying the fan but also assurance that the fans will deliver what Noctua claims. They also provide a very generous warranty to back up their claims, unlike other fans and businesses these days. It's a pitty that most businesses stepped away from manufacturing QUALITY products and standing behind them. Thumbs up Noctua.

Cons: 1) I would have given it 5-stars, but I woke up this morning and it seems that I I'm experiencing a faulty fan (1 of the 2) with a slight grinding noise. It's more of a low-pitch constant rattle, similarly to a vibration. I've now owned these for little over 3 weeks, which were installed as a radiator fan with inside the top of my case in PUSH config, at nearly a constant 55-65% (1200 ~ 1440 rpm) fan speed. I still stand by my comments in Pros, unless Noctua service is poorly handled, which I doubt..

2) Price, but as noted in the Pros you receive a quality warranty indicating that Noctua stands by their products. No other fan manufacturer provides such warranty. It's not a "Con" per-say, but an iteration and assurance for other folks who may stray from purchasing these quality fans.

3) Be VERY careful with the 3rd party vendors offering these fans, they'll jack the prices up beyond exception. It's nearly highway robbery.

Other Thoughts: Will post and update after

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performing 140mm PWM 4-pin

Pros: 1) noctua quality including rubber dampened edges, 4-pin splitter, extension, and 6 yr warranty
2) great PWM range up to 1500 rpm when you need it but silent to me when under 1000 rpm
3) these are similar to the fans noctua provides with their flagship air-cooler, the D15
4) 4-pin PWM, easily controlled in BIOS, which I prefer to my fan controller I recently removed

Cons: 1) expensive
2) some folks don't like the color but they are inside the case and perform well, so who cares about color?

Other Thoughts: 1) bought this one for my exhaust so with the D15, I have 3 noctua 140 mm PWM fans lined up with the D15 heatsink fins. Dropped p95 load temps by 2°C over my stock cooler-master 140 mm exhaust (fan goes faster, duh)
2) Board is ASUS maximus vii Hero and it uses all 4-pin headers so makes PWM easy.
3) is 2°C "better" worth spending $30 replacing a perfectly good 140 mm fan? Hmm...that's your call. :-)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fans

Pros: Good airflow even at lower RPMS
Very quiet... more in other thoughts

Cons: color but then again everyone says that and there are other versions in different colors but I like these and with my system and 8 Noctua fans it looks OK with the colors.

Other Thoughts: I have this system in sort of a home theater setup with a 42" TV as one of the monitors and the computer sits under the TV. It is about 5ft away from me.

If I put a stress test on the system causing all the fans to spin up to their maximum speed, my 15" desk fan that I have sitting about 6ft away will overpower the PC fans on its lowest setting. Basically if its a warm day and I have that fan running I cant hear my PC at all even if I was under extreme load. My case is pretty open too, so nothing to dampen any noise.

I have two of these installed as intakes in the front of my case (Cooler Master HAF XB EVO Mid Tower). As a reference these two fans just start to become audible to me at around 900 RPM and that's just where I start to hear them if it's completely silent in my house and neighborhood. They are still extremely quiet at that RPM. If I were to put my hand near the back of the case .. at 900 I can easily feel the air from those fans. At 680 RPM, which has sill plenty of airflow for a light to medium load, I literally have to put my head 2 inches away to even hear them.. and I think I'm hearing the air going through the screen mesh and not the actual fans at that point.

Surfing the net... I never hear my fans .. intense gaming usually the sound of the game even at low levels overpowers the sound of the fans unless it gets really quiet in the game. *though this has changed since I got a 390X which overpowers all 8 of my fans when gaming even if the fans had to run at max speed. I need some Noctua fans for my GPU
