With excellent cooling capacity and superb low operation noise, the Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm fan is a great choice for overclockers and DIY professionals. Featuring a square 140mm frame, this case fan is compatible with gaming cases with 140mm mounting holes, as well as 140mm water cooling radiators. An array of sophisticated aerodynamic design, such as Flow Acceleration Channels, ensures class-leading cooling to tame your high-end system, while its rugged SSO2 Bearing and metal bearing shell deliver strength and durability for lasting, worry-free performance. The custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC allows fully automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers. An included Low-Noise-Adaptor can be used when necessary, to reduce maximum speed from 1500rpm to 1200rpm for quieter environment.

Succeeding the award-winning NF-P14

General information

Noctua’s NF-P14 fan has become a default-choice among PC enthusiasts looking for a premium quality quiet 140mm fan. Thanks to its thoroughgoing aerodynamic optimizations, the NF-A14 provides higher static pressure and an even better airflow/noise ratio than its much acclaimed predecessor.

Square 140mm frame

General information

The NF-A14’s square 140mm frame with 140mm mounting holes (124.5mm spacing) makes it a premium grade replacement for common 140mm case fans and perfect for use on 140mm water cooling radiators, where its square shape will ensure full coverage and best pressure performance.

Flow Acceleration Channels

General information

The NF-A14 impeller features suction side Flow Acceleration Channels. By speeding up the airflow at the crucial outer blade regions, this measure reduces suction side flow separation and thus leads to better efficiency and lower vortex noise.

AAO Frame

General information

Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s exclusive Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency.

Stepped Inlet Design

General information

Noctua’s Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx in order to facilitate the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow, which reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment and increases suction capacity, especially in space restricted environments.

Inner Surface Microstructures

General information

With the tips of the fan blades ploughing through the boundary layer created by the Inner Surface Microstructures, flow separation from the suction side of the blades is significantly suppressed, which results in reduced blade passing noise and improved airflow and pressure efficiency.

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads

General information

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads made from extra-soft silicone minimize the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with all standard screws and other mounting systems.

SSO2 Bearing

General information

The NF-A14 features the further optimized second generation of Noctua’s renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilization, precision and durability.

Metal bearing shell

General information

In order to guarantee the highest possible degree of manufacturing precision, minimum tolerance and excellent long-term stability, the NF-A14 sports a CNC milled bearing shell made entirely from brass.

Custom designed PWM IC with SCD

General information

Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-A14 PWM uses Noctua’s novel, custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at low speeds.

Low-Noise Adaptor

General information

The NF-A14 PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1500 to 1200rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 1200rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.

Extensive cabling options

General information

The fan’s short 20cm primary cable minimizes cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary. Both cables are fully sleeved, and a 4-pin y-cable allows you to connect a second NF-A14 PWM fan to the same PWM fan header for automatic control.

5 out of 5 eggsNear perfect

Pros: They use less power than the stock fans on my cooler. They move a TON of air through the radiator, I was shocked to feel how much. they are not as quiet as I had hoped but I am using them on my H110i so they need some speed once and a while. even though they are not as high RPM as the fans they replaced, they allow me to run my pc at 4.8Ghz with a quiet fan profile.

Cons: Color isn't my favorite but I am not in a windowed case so who cares.
they are wider than my radiator which is odd. I did seal one side of them to stop air leaks.

Other Thoughts: they come with everything you could need other than full sized silicone seals, which would be nice for use on radiators.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fan. Moves a lot of air quietly.

Pros: Currently using 2 of these as intake fans on the Corsair 750D. It moves a lot more air than the old case fans and is able to move the air past the HDD cage much better. They are very quiet and I can run them up to about 1400-1500 RPM without even hearing them. The overall quality is great. It is truly a premium product.

Cons: Color (subjective)

Other Thoughts: I would recommend these fans for anyone looking for a quality case fan that can also be used for water cooling.
I plan on buying another to use as an exhaust fan.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!!!!, now if you want silent these are really good

Pros: Silent
Easy to install
several different connectivity options.

Cons: Price :(
But you get what you pay for :)

Other Thoughts: Silent.... to me, doesn't me no noise at all, to me this means that there are no rattles or none air related noises.
I've purchased a few fans in the past months, and below would be my ratings for each

-Rosewill RAWP-141411 ---good price, moves a LOT of air, but has a rattling sound at low speeds and large air sound at high speed. Buy this fan if you need to move a lot of air, and some noise is not an issue

-Cooler Master 120mm Silent Fan 4Pack --- VERY Good price, however did not seem to move a lot of air, and where louder than my original 2 year old Apevia case fans :(, I would not recommend, unless on a very tight budget )

-Deepcool UF 140 --- Great price, moves decent amount of air, but one of the loudest fans even at lower speeds, ( I would suggest the Rosewill or the Fractal Design over these )

-Fractal Design GP-14 --- great price, Very silent, but does not move as much air as the Noctua or the Roswell ( I would recommned this fan )

-Noctua NF-A14 --- expensive, even if purchased on sale, But worth every penny... Very silent, it does not seem to move as much air as the Roswell ( I would still recommend this fan over the others I've tested so far.)

Note: Do not buy fans solely on their specs and customer reviews, the fans listed above had great specs and great reviews, You have to keep in mind that noise levels are perceived differently, and what one person might think is a noisy fan might not bother others, to me a noisy fan means mostly rattles and less the excessive noise created by air displacement.

Hope this helps others out there :)

5 out of 5 eggsAll pros, no cons.

Pros: Build Quality is incredible.
Powerful CFM airflow, reasonable static pressure.
Silent. Even at max speed it is close to inaudible.

Cons: None. You get what you pay for, and Noctua is one of the best no matter which item you look at.

Other Thoughts: Caveat: The "A" model fans are optimized for high air flow (case fans) and I have only used this model for that purpose. I have NOT tested it as a radiator fan, although the paper specs say it offers pretty good static pressure. Noctua also makes a NF-P14s Redux model ("P" for "pressure"), not sure how it compares.

I learned about and switched to Noctua in mid-2014 for all my fans in any build. I have six of these fans running in two builds right now, along with two NF-S12A case fans, two NF-F12 pushing a 2x120mm radiator, and four NF-A15 pushing and pulling two NH-U14s air coolers. I have NEVER had any problem with any of these PWM fans.

Whether idle or during gaming, I only know they are running by checking my monitoring software. The only time I can hear them (my cases are very open with no sound dampening, by the way) is when I use the controller or a stress tester like Prime95 to artificially raise the speeds/temps to maximum.

If you are willing to spend money for the best, I don't see how you can go wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding quality

Pros: Very Quiet
Substantial Feeling.
Superior to Corsair 140SP, significantly. And worth the extra money if you care about noise.

Cons: Does not screw into my front fan bay of my Corsair 350D case. Not with included hardware or case hardware. Doesn't seem to be a major issue, as they fit snugly.

Other Thoughts: Hesitated at first, bought 2 Corsair SP140's last year. Wish I'd saved that money and bought these in the first place.
Ordering 2 120mm's for my h100i GTX next.
All my future fan purchases will be Noctua

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a Noctua fan...'nuff said!

Pros: Works great like all the Noctua fans I've installed the last 3 years +. Love the optional low noise cables, the rubber stoppers (plugs). Easy to install, low maintenance, and they just plain work as advertised. Quality is worth the price!

Cons: Having a con on a new noctua fan would be news.

Other Thoughts: Many don't like the appearance of the tan/brown fans. The majority are placed where they can't be seen anyway. I don't have a problem with the colors. If someone really has an issue with the colors and knows anything about mods, paint 'em!

5 out of 5 eggsQuite + Warrenty

Pros: These fans are very quite, even at full speed. Noctua fans are well worth the investment, since you're not only buying the fan but also the assurance that Noctua will deliver what they claim. They also provide a very generous warranty, unlike other fans and businesses these days. It's a pity most businesses stepped away from manufacturing QUALITY products, to fill their deep piggy pockets, and not stand behind them. Thumbs up Noctua.

Cons: 1) None, despite my earlier claim that these fans were causing the vibration/rattling in my Corsair 540, the issue ended up being the fans included with the NZXT Kraken X61 cooling solution.

2) Price, but as noted in the Pros you receive a quality warranty indicating that Noctua stands by their products. No other fan manufacturer provides such warranty. It's not a "Con" per-say, but an iteration and assurance for other folks who may stray from purchasing these quality fans. However... #3 ... watch out for sleazy businesses doubling the prices on these.

3) Be VERY careful with the 3rd party vendors offering these fans, they'll jack the prices up beyond what could be considered acceptable.

Other Thoughts: Updated, previous 9/20/2015

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Silent
Cools very very well

Cons: Didn't fit in the front of my R4

Other Thoughts: Ordered 3, 2 for intake and 1 exhaust. Unfortunately they did not fit in the front of my r4 even though 140mm fans can fit in it.
