Succeeding the award-winning NH-D14 cooler, the Noctua NH-D15 sets a new standard in high-end CPU coolers, with sophisticated design and superb quality components. This flagship CPU cooler adopts powerful dual tower architecture, and two premium-grade NF-A15 140mm fans with PWM support for automatic speed control. The heatsink fin stack is wider and the heatpipes are spaced further apart than that of the predecessor NH-D14, delivering better efficiency and more uniform dissipation. The included NT-H1 thermal grease is also professional grade with maximum heat conductivity and ease of application. Plus, the SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system is compatible with both AMD and Intel platforms, of previous, current and even future generation, making it a solid investment that can live on till your next two or three builds.

detailed view and application

Based on the Award-Winning NH-D14

General information

Noctua’s NH-D14 has received more than 350 awards and recommendations from leading international hardware websites and magazines, making it one of the most successful premium heatsinks ever built. With its expanded layout and dual NF-A15 fans, the NH-D15 further improves the D14’s much acclaimed quiet cooling performance.

Six Heatpipe Dual Tower Design

General information

As compared to conventional single tower heatinks, the NH-D15’s fine-tuned six heatpipe dual tower design provides more surface area, better heat-distribution and superior airflow efficiency in dual fan mode.

Widened Fin Stack and Expanded Heatpipe Layout

General information

Compared to the NH-D14, the NH-D15’s fin-stack has been widened from 140 to 150mm and its heatpipes are now spaced further apart, which allows for a more uniform heat distribution over a larger surface area and thus contributes to the NH-D15’s superior efficiency.

High RAM Compatibility in Single Fan Mode

General information

Thanks to its recessed lower fins, the NH-D15 provides 64mm clearance for tall memory heatsinks in single fan mode, making it compatible with most high end RAM modules on the market. In dual fan mode, the NH-D15 should be used with standard height RAM (up to 32mm). (In chassis with more than 165mm CPU cooler clearance, the front fan can be moved upwards to make room for memory modules taller than 32mm.)

Dual NF-A15 140mm Fans

General information

The NH-D15 features two of Noctua’s premium class NF-A15 140mm fans. Complying with Noctua’s AAO standard and featuring sophisticated aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels, the NF-A15 has quickly built up a reputation as one of the best 140mm fans on the market.

PWM Support and Low-Noise Adaptor

General information

The NF-A15 premium fans supplied with the NH-D15 support PWM for convenient automatic speed control through the mainboard. In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced from 1500 to 1200rpm using the supplied Low-Noise Adaptor for even quieter operation.

Excellent Component Cooling

General information

Extending below the fin-stacks, the large NF-A15 fans not only contribute to the NH-D15’s superb CPU cooling capabilities but also provide massive airflow over surrounding motherboard components and heatsinks, thus ensuring excellent component cooling performance.

SecuFirm2 Mounting System

General information

Noctua’s SecuFirm2 mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. Supporting Intel LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA2011 and AMD (AM3(+), AM2(+), FM1, FM2(+)), the SecuFirm2 mounting included with the NH-D15 guarantees perfect contact pressure and maximum convenience on all current sockets.

Compatibility with Past and Future sockets

General information

Complying with the open SecuFirm standard, the NH-D15 can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. If technically possible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets.

NT-H1 Thermal Compound

General information

Having received more than 100 awards and recommendations from hardware journalists around the world, Noctua’s NT-H1 is a proven professional grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsVery quiet

Pros: After taking twenty minutes to install this on an AMD FX-8350 Black Edition, which came with a very loud fan, I was up and running with a whisper quiet machine. That time included trimming down the heat spreaders on two memory modules with a Dremel cutter, so the secondary fan would clear. It's a very quiet and well built cooler.

Haven't had time to study the core temperatures yet, but a preliminary check shows quite a drop in temperatures, ~25cto 30c while idle.

Oh yes, it's a very quiet cooler.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This system consists of:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB)
Case is an old "XBLADE" full tower
with just enough width for the cooler.

I have bought Noctua fans in the past and
now the NH-D15 cooler. I can't say
enough about that company.

4/7/2016:
This cooler is still working great. Half the time, the fans aren't even coming on. Sometimes I think the fans aren't working, but the CPU is staying cool, even as dusty as it gets in the case. I had the side panel off for a while and actually saw the fans come on a couple times, so they are working.

Just make sure you have plenty of room for this cooler.

3 out of 5 eggsFailed install attempt

Pros: great design, fans, etc. Comes with thetmal paste

Cons: The tri-prong washers came off when I tried to install the cooler onto the custom retentions that came with the cooler on AMD. One side also cannot be screwed without doing the other side at the same time, or else one side can't reach the retention screw welded on to the curved part. I'd love to get a replacement, but that would take forever if I have to mail back the current cooler.

Other Thoughts: easier to install screws for the cooler itself would be nice.

5 out of 5 eggsPremium quality. Worth the extra couple bucks.

Pros: First of all, I research every piece of potential builds before hand, which is one thing I found excellent about Noctua in general.
I just looked up the website prior to purchase, and they have laid out their entire product line, as well as complete compatibility lists so you know if it'll fit to your specific board, as well as potential issues.
shipped package was PERFECT. nicely packed, small boxes of specific parts for mounting, and great thermal paste included.
When you get this, you'll see that everything from design, to packaging, etc. was well planned, well thought, and you will see these people are proud of this product, and I can see why, as, it performs like a dream.

Cons: It's large...but that's not really a con.

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps it cool.

Pros: Super quiet, well packaged, easy to follow instructions, excellent at keeping components cool.

Cons: It is very large.

Other Thoughts: Size can be an issue if you do not measure everything first before assembly. I did not experience this, however due to the size I am not able to access all of the PCIE slots on the motherboard. Adding additional ram in the future will be interesting as well.

5 out of 5 eggsboo bah beep

Pros: massive friggin' design; all of the heat dispersion.
made my fx 8320 at 4.6 ghz go to an idle of about 26*c whereas with the included amd cooler i was seeing about 38*c at the stock 3.5.
kinda pretty if you paint it.

Cons: massive friggin' design, gotta kind of handle my nzxt s340's window-side door a little funny to get it latched back on proper.
i'm not one that has handled many higher end air coolers.. but the way that a make i found to be of a rather higher tier of product offers little more than what feels like an off brand bent out paperclip as a means of attaching the fans to the headers was rather disappointing to myself. it feels cheap but also rather effective.

not really a con just a little design side "..what" emotion i experienced.

Other Thoughts: the only thing i have to say, i originally decided to make this comment a thing because through different forums and such i have never noticed anybody say this little idea i had once first getting the cooler.

i couldn't run the dual fan set up as specified due to my ram's height, but i wanted that second fan on the cooler and not elsewhere in the case. so i flipped the paper clip deal and ran it on the other side of the '#1" tower as i would coin it. not sure if the second tower not having any directly touching fans effects my overall statistics but either way the entire environment in my chassis has experienced a nice drop in typical temps.

5 out of 5 eggsJust wow

Pros: Mounting is the best I've seen for being secure
no wobble
super quiet (seriously had to check to make sure fan was running)

Cons: ULTRA HUGE
could only use one (combo of this device and my ram being too high G.Skill Trident Z)
a bit expensive

Other Thoughts: This product is a bit overpriced in my opinion but not by much. If you can wait for this unit to be on sale then do so but if you want the absolute best that air cooling and money can buy this in my opinion is the apex of air cooling now and into the future. It's quiet, cool, and MASSIVE! I had to order a 120x120mm fan (Noctua NF-F12 PWM) to use in place of the second 140x150 fan that comes with the device as the second just would not fit above my ram. This is a combination of my ram selection, motherboard ram placement and the noctua nh-d15 being so huge. But if I had normal height ram it would have fit with a slight lift of the second fan and my case would have closed fine. You can use it with one fan but I wanted the extra airflow in the case anyway and the Noctua NF-F12 PWM is the same color scheme and is another primo noctua product. Overall this is a 5/5. I didn't deduct any points for being a bit expensive as that is very subjective. Also this is the top of the line and in my opinion you can't buy better air cooling. So price should be a bit higher than say a hyper 212 evo which I was using previous to this. Temps dropped over 6 degrees when my i7-6700k is idle. Very very good cooling from this beast. Would buy one again if I needed to but I'm pretty sure that this cooler will be good well into the future as Noctua seems happy to provide adapters and kits well into the future for their products. Also I emailed noctua support about the fan size suggestions for the second fan and to see if my existing fan clips would fit, they responded withing 3 hours of me sending them an email. This is rare today. I have had bad experiences with both Corsair and Gigabyte when looking to have simple questions answered about their products by support.

5 out of 5 eggsa beast of a heat sink

Pros: I taxed my i7-5820k for over an hour and the d15 didn't break a sweat keeping it cool.

It's cosmetic but it's so massive that it looks badass if you have a see through side.

Cons: I had to raise the second fan a couple of ribs on the heat sink to make room for my ripjaws ram. Standard ram isn't an issue I read.
