2 out of 5 eggsArrived Broken

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Good Fans, Great Look

Cons: Arrived Broken

Other Thoughts: Once I opened the box, noticed that the Phanteks logo (the top of the heat sink) was not attached to the heatsink itself. Had to RMA it, and still awaiting Newegg's reply.

5 out of 5 eggsPhanteks PH-TC12DX Black

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Duel fans (120mm) and the size of the heatsink was just right to fit in my case (description below).
Some people say it is to big, but bigger is better imo. Bigger the heatsink provides greater surface area for the heat to spread.
My computer now runs at 46 degrees C on max settings in COD Ghosts, 14-17 degrees lower than stock (both use Artic Silver 5 thermal compound).

Cons: I wish it came in all black. I tried to keep my computer all black and blue.

Other Thoughts: Just fits in my Cooler Master HAF 932 and just fits over the RAM so if you have anything taller than this RAM it may not fit.
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD65.
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw X Series F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM
CPU: i5-2380P (quad core 1155 socket).
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 660.
I didn't have a problem installing it (my first aftermarket heatsink installation) the instructions aren't bad, but it is very straight forward. I say if you are able to put a computer together, you can be able to put the aftermarket heatsink on.

4 out of 5 eggsCooling

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps my AMD FX-9370 cool.

Cons: Instruction are terrible. The written instruction are very hard to follow and the pictures make it even worse. I was very concerned about making sure I was spot on with the instructions because I did not want to mess up the installation and burn out my CPU. However, once I started using the instructions as a guideline and my common sense to finish the process it was a much easier install.

Other Thoughts: Easier to install if you have an AMD board as you don't need to switch out the back plate. I was able to install the assembly with the motherboard already mounted in my case. Intel people are going to have to do some more work.

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointed

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Looks good as well as including 2 quality fans.

Cons: Complete lack of customer service from Phanteks. Heat sink not very well constructed.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this CPU cooler due to the Phanteks name.
Figured it would out perform a small water cooler of similar price.Authentically looks good and would have complimented my build. Unboxed product to find the top of the heat sink with the Phanteks logo was not attached to the heat sink.Seems as if some clips were broken and the top cap would not go back on. I got in touch with Phanteks to see what I should do(as the instructions say to contact Phanteks customer service). Well I was told by Phanteks customer support to send the product back to Newegg. This isn't how a company trying to build a loyal customer acts. How often do you get instructions that say contact the manufacturer before the retailer. That's just what I did and basically all that happened is Phanteks tried to pass the buck to Newegg. All I asked is if they sell the heat sink(or top plate)seperately. Instead I was just brushed off and told to let Newegg deal with it. Sorry Phanteks I was all set to purchase a Primo or Luce this year(along with several Phantek accessories) Not anymore as I see a company that doesn't care for its customers only a profit. What a shame.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Cooler

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: • Cools the CPU

Cons: • Some RAM with high heatsyncs won't fit underneath.

Other Thoughts: • i7-4770K OC to 4.0GHz rarely reaches 60C on 100% usage

5 out of 5 eggsIt keeps the CPU cool.

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Even though it was installed with shaking hands and sweating forehead (it was my first time installing an aftermarket CPU cooler), it has worked great and I have had no heat issues.

Haswell i7-4770K OC to 4.0 + 26°C Ambient Temperature
Idle (1% Usage) + 50% Fan Speed = 28°C
100% Usage + 90% Fan Speed = 55°C

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Make sure it can fit in your case and over your RAM heatsinks.

4 out of 5 eggsCools very well, but with 1 major oversight

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps my FX 8320 @4.4 Ghz under 50*
Looks nice
Fans are quite quiet until they ramp up to max RPM.
Silent unless I set fan profile to "Turbo" in BIOS.
Very high quality thermal compound included. Enough for many applications as well.

Cons: Can ONLY mount vertically on AM3+

Other Thoughts: This cooler is a very good performer. It keeps my CPU nice and cool and is reasonably sized.

However, Phanteks overlooked the fact that some (ok nearly all) people want to mount it with the fans in an East-West configuration on the AMD platform. I wish I'd known this, but it doesn't appear to hurt my performance too much. As I said, my CPU stays under 50 degrees, although it appears I got a "golden" overclocking chip that lets me hit 4.4 Ghz with stock volts. It's Prime95 stable. Realistically, you could expect an average of 53* max temps at that clock speed if you install the included compound correctly in a decent airflow situation.

If you're using an AMD motherboard, be aware that this heatsink has to be oriented so that the fan is sucking air off of your graphics card (which tends to be a bit toasty) I had to dock an egg for this as it's a major oversight.

That said, it still keeps my chip nice and cool through some form of black magic, since the air it's taking in has to be around 40*C under heavy gaming loads.

However, the vertical orientation is great for flinging that GPU-heated air out the top of my system.

If you're using Intel, just buy this if you're considering it. It's somehow way better than a Hyper 212 (from what I hear) and is about the same size. If you're on an AMD platform, I'd still seriously consider this as it will perform well on even overclocked FX 8 core chips.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good cooler

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: -Looks sick when installed in a Corsair 600t white edition
-Temps never go over 47 degrees when playing black ops 2 for an hour with an Intel i5-4670k on stock thermal paste
-REALLY REALLY Quiet

Cons: -Hard to install, Instructions are obviously translated into english from another language. Dont forget to install the black rubber things!

Other Thoughts: Look up HiTechLegion's install video for this, it's only a few mins long but is very helpful.

5 out of 5 eggsnice unit

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: quieter than expected. Granted, it's installed in a Fractal Design Define R4 case, but it's fairly quiet. I can barely hear it over the case fans when the case fans are on low speed.

I've loaded my system up playing games such as Crysis 3 and my CPU temps have not risen above 45° after an hour of gameplay.

Large, but not so large it doesn't fit. Easy to work around. Sits high enough so that it clears the memory heat sinks.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The black and white color scheme matches the interior of my Fractal Design Define R4 case perfectly.

The installation directions that came with it were well written.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to do

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK Dual 120mm PWM CPU Cooler

Pros: Certainly keeps my i7-2600K 3.4Ghz cooler. Stock cooler was running around 30C idle/95C load(prime95 for 1 hour @3.8Ghz). Now running 21C idle/56C load(prime95 for 1 hour @ 4 Ghz). Using ArcticAlumina as the thermo-compound. Ambient temp was stable @ 15.6C for both tests. Overall I am very happy with this product.

Cons: Barely clears the side of my mid-tower case (Antec DF-35). Clearance between memory and fan maybe an issue for some.
