Phanteks PH-TC14S CPU Cooler

Phanteks’ PH-TC14S incorporates the dual tower design and performance of the PH-TC14PE but in a slimmer form. The new PH-TC14S eliminates the possibility of incompatible RAM and oversize heatsink from the motherboard. PH-TC14S’s six 6mm heat-pipes are linearly aligned and developed to have the least amount of air and thermal resistance, and allow for optimal heat diffusion on fins for faster cooling. PH-TC14S includes a PH-F140HP PWM ultra high static pressure Premium fan with the new blade design. For better cooling, an additional PH-F140HP can be installed, or any other 12025 fan for higher performance and/or silent operation.

Phanteks
  • Dual tower design carried on from the PH-TC14PE but slimmer to enhance the efficiency of thermal convection.
  • Six U-type Nickel plated heatpipes with Aluminum stack fins for better heat distribution. The rate of heat conduction is rapid with the new design of the heatpipe’s alignment resulting in immediate cooling.
  • Slim design, at only 72mm, the PH-TC14S is 100% compatible with high VRM modules and high heatsink RAM. PH-TC14S follows INTEL’s CPU Keep-Out-Zone.
  • PH-TC14S uses Phanteks’ patented Black colored P.A.T.S technology.

Phanteks
  • Included Solisku Bracket is compatible for all INTEL/AMD motherboards. The bracket is easy to install and create a direct contact with the CPU.
  • PH-F140HP High Static Pressure fan is included. To create better airflow, PHF140HP’s new Seven Blade design and MVB II enhances thermal convection inside the case.
  • Upgradable to dual fans
  • Compatible with 120mm and 140mm fans
  • Includes accessories for dual fans (*1 PHF140HP included) (Fans accessories compatible with both 140mm and 120mm Phanteks fan)
  • Phanteks’ PH-NDC is made of high purity Nano diamond-like particles. A superb quality thermal compound that improves the thermal conductance between the components.

5 out of 5 eggsCompetent and Styish

Pros: - Quiet
- High airflow and static pressure
- Does not block RAM
- Heat-pipe end caps are a nice touch
- Load temps on my i5-4590 are about 20°C lower than with the stock Intel cooler
- Included thermal paste tube has enough grease for multiple uses
- Mounting hardware included for both Intel and AMD sockets

Cons: - Kind of expensive considering you could get a Hyper 212 Evo or Cryorig H7 (both of which are excellent coolers) for about $20 less
- The 4-pin cable is not quite long enough to reach the fan hub in an Enthoo Evolv mATX case
- The protective sticker, when peeled off, leaves some glue residue on the bottom of the heat-sink

Other Thoughts: - No, the thermal paste is not pre-applied. It comes in a tube. The reviewer complaining about the "sticky goo" was right to do so.
- Check your case dimensions to see if this cooler fits because it is TALL.
- If you have a Evolv mATX case like me, you'll need to buy an extension cable if you want connect the fan to the PWM fan hub.

4 out of 5 eggsbest cheaper good looking heatsink

Pros: cheap(er)
cooling performance is 4-9% better than Hyper212Evo (mostly the fans part)
black. simple sleek works with just about any color scheme.
supports 120mm fan spacing but can fit 140mm fans with 105mm screwhole spacing (ie 120mm fan)
stock PH fan is decent.
mounting brackets for any situation included.
nice packaging.

Cons: the stock fan is white and black. limits color schemes. however has a nice braided cable.
gets a little too noisy for my taste above 40% pwm
It is a hair taller than a hyper212evo

INSTALLATION
- i hate each time i take this thing off. I want to replace the springs with weaker springs so I dont feel like Im going to break my pcb each time I mount it. you have to BARELY thread one side then push with all of your might to get the other side threaded. you need quite a long screwdriver to do so without damaging fins. I have had other hard to install coolers. (not by difficulty but by force required) this one is by far the worst.

Other Thoughts: this tower looks AMAZING with fractal venturi 140mm pwm fan. that fan supports 105mm screwhole spacing so you can mount no issue to this. fractal actually made a good fan for once. MUCH quieter than stock (even though they give you a nice PH fan for stock but not good enough for me) and pushes equal air

this purchase was based on aesthetics and price.
as long as I had reasonable temps I was good.
I installed this on:
i7 5960x @4.3ghz 1.325v
a10 7870k @4.8ghz 1.4275v
i7 3770k @4.4ghz 1.300v
fx8320 @4.9ghz 1.450v
This wasnt quite good enough for the super high OC i had on the 8320 but wanted to see how it did and I was 49c idle 77c load little too warm for my taste. but this cooler is not designed for 200+watts of heII going through that 8320.

the install is not nice and sadly i frequently move this cooler around.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler a breeze (bdum chh) to install!

Pros: - nice black heatsink
- capped heat pipes are really nice looking
- nice Phanteks 140mm PWM included
- cooling is excellent
- compatible with any memory out there, due to 'slim' footprint
- finally an easy, effective mounting solution for a heatsink, good job Phanteks!

Cons: - none

Other Thoughts: I'd buy again in a heart beat, and highly recommend!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, B-E-A-UTIFUL

Pros: Looks great
Cools Very Well
Doesn't get in the way of 4 Channel RAM on X99 Motherboard.

Cons: After you get the main bracket on, screwing down the heat-sink was a slight hassle, it might be because the 2011 V3 is such a large socket, you have to use some elbow grease to get the threads started on the last 2 screws. Its not like your going to install this a hundred times or something.

Other Thoughts: I think a 120mm fan option might be nice, so that it fits square with the heatsink, nice and even on all sides. The round 140mm is rather large on there. However the 140mm sure does work well and is rather quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Item is the Best!!!!!

Pros: Easy to follow instructions! Looks great in the case! Airflow though this one is down right great! Quiet! Takes up little room so i can use ALL my ram slots! Does not block any heat pipe fins on the motherboard! Just a great product!

Cons: NOPE!

Other Thoughts: 1 of the 12 caps was not on the product. It was lose in the box. That is a little cosmetic touch up that superglue fixed... not worth knocking off 1 egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done!

Pros: I did a modest overclock of my 4790k, to 4.3 and it idles at 34 load at 55 and only once have I noticed it hit a high of 59.
It was really simple to install and it is extremely silent. I'm just using this temporarily whilst I get a parts list together for a custom water loop, but if you decide to use this as your main cooler, you won't be disappointed.

Cons: None, does the job well!

Other Thoughts: The only thing i'd do differently would be to make the fan cable black instead of white. My cases are all black and white (corsair 780t and nzxt h440) but I personally prefer black cables.

5 out of 5 eggsSome sort of sticky goo"!

Pros: A reviewer wrote- Cons: This thing arrived with some sort of sticky goo on the part that makes contact with the CPU. I had to clean it off with WD-40 and then remove that with rubbing alcohol. And he had his tech level at "Expert"? He removed the pre-applied thermal paste! How can you be that clueless? That is comic gold!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I hope the guy didn't fry his cpu!

4 out of 5 eggsGood little cooler is youre not into extreme overclocking

Pros: slim
doesnt interfere with tall ram
quiet
looks beautiful

Cons: not the best cooling availabe at this price point

Other Thoughts: if you low profile ram you can get away with getting a cooler that performs better for the same money. I got this for the looks and the price isnt too bad. keeps my i3 4370 idling at 32 degrees and keeps it under 55 under full gaming load. Installation was very easy on my msi gaming 5 z97 motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsInstallation Woes

Pros: It's huge! The fans are replaceable so that you can change them if they die.

Cons: This thing arrived with some sort of sticky goo on the part that makes contact with the CPU. I had to clean it off with WD-40 and then remove that with rubbing alcohol. The fan removal is a little tricky, but manageable. I do have a bone to pick about the mounting hardware. The four screw-nuts that you use to secure the mounting strips to the board (I have the LGA2011v3) don't seem to tighten all the way. They keep spinning, but don't pull off, at least.
