1 out of 5 eggsCouldn't install

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: Looks nice, compared to some other tall coolers. I wasn't able to install the cooler, so I ended up using the enclosed thermal paste to reinstall my old cooler, and my temps are actually down 4 or 5 C from what they had been before! I also ended up using the fan as an exhaust case fan and that is working well, too, and lends a nice blue tint to the inside of my case.

Cons: Couldn't install it, due to not being able to get two of the four push-pins secured to the motherboard (Intel LGA 1150). All four pins looked different from one another to begin with, like someone had already tried to install it and bent them every which way.

Even if all four pins had been OK, this still would have been a chore to install just trying to get at the push pins below the heatsink.

Dissapointed and cannot recommend.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent cooler for the price

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: The cooler is decent, providing better cooling than the stock cooler. Led fan included, as well as an extra bracket for second fan.

Cons: The fan speed for a cpu cooler is a little low, and the extra fan that's included isn't even an led fan. I installed a spare high cfm led fan I had left over from a previous Newegg purchase I made.

Other Thoughts: The cpu fans included with the cooler should really be a higher speed. However, with the other led fans available from Newegg, the cooler can be made just that much better.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: -Quiet
-Cools well
-LED light looks nice

Cons: -No back plate and cheap plastic pins

Other Thoughts: Installation was easy and took about 5 minutes. The only thing that worries me are the fasteners. Unlike AMD Intel seems to use plastic push pins that pop into the board. This cooler doesn't have a back plate so all the torque is on those somewhat flimsy pins. No problems yet though

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler for the price

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: - Quiet
- Low Temperatures
- Blue LED Fan

Cons: - N/A

Other Thoughts: This is an amazing CPU cooler for such a low price, it's the best bang for your buck. You can't go wrong with this cooler. Why pay over $100 for a cooler that does the same for less than $40?

5 out of 5 eggsNice 120mm Cooler

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: Easy assembly, easy to add another fan for Push/Pull.

Cons: None, except you have to have experience to avoid problems.

!!! WILL NOT WORK FOR 1366 XEON socket !!!

Other Thoughts: The wire fan clips are super easy to use and better than mounting plastic parts to the fan.

5 out of 5 eggsRe-installed on Z77 Mobo

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: 2nd review, this time for a install on a Z77 Mobo (775 before). As I mentioned before, a good looking and fairly quiet combo. Temps are in the mid 30's on a I5 2500K at idle, load temps max out in the upper 60's for stress tests, usually run in the mid 50's for gaming. Good combo with a few tweaks listed below. I also have a Noctua DH14 on my main rig, and it does take the cooling to another level, but for double the cost, while taking up even more space. The Gammaxx 400 is a good alternative to someone looking for 80% of the performance at 50% of the cost. Also a better looking setup as well ...

Cons: The usual Intel plastic mounting pins suck, and the Deepcool version is just as worthless. I snipped my plastic pins off of the metal mounting plate and replaced them with plastic screws that can be found at most hardware stores (ACE, Lowes, Home Depot). 1/2 inch long works well. I bought nylon (plastic) as they are non-conductive, just to be on the safe side. The final mount is VERY secure this way, and allows the Deepcool to perform at it's best. The negative issue with this method is you will have to access the back side of the mobo to secure the plastic nuts and bolts. So if you have a case with no back side access through the case, you will have to remove the mobo to do this mod. The included plastic Intel style push pins do not require this, so try to use the included Deepcool hardware first, just keep the above mod in mind if they don't work like they should. Every mobo out there will have slightly different dimensions for hole placement and thickness of the pcb board, so some will work fine with the included hardware, some won't.

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd rig I have used this on, and with two different generations of CPU's and Mobo's. The Gammaxx 400 works really well once it's properly secured . Looks great as well. Well worth the money IMO.

4 out of 5 eggsBig Boy Cooler

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: The size of this is both a pro and a con.
Bought this based on reviews of this here at Newegg, not disappointed in its performance, but am with installation (covered later).

This is a massive cooler (height wise). If you have a mid tower case or even a Full tower case with a side fan, just make sure you have the case width to be able to meet the clearance.

I have a Thermaltake A71 with an ASUS Z97-Pro Gamer MOBO and it fits with room to spare.
It does NOT impede the RAM channels and although it would be a tighter fit, they WOULD fit if I used all 4 channels.

This thing keeps my CPU cool and I mean cool.
I have it coupled with Arctic Silver thermal paste and they do wonders.

This in conjunction with the Thermaltake case and case fans, my i5-4690K and GTX-960 card have no heat issues even under heavy load.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked and the blue LED on the MASSIVE radiator block looks wicked

Cons: Installation and instructions

They are just plain bad
This is not a con of just this particular cooler, but the Socket LGA1150/1155 in general

I have always hated the pins, especially the plastic ones.
They almost never line up all at once correctly and I spend quite a while realigning them and trying to snap them in.

There are NO written instructions on this - just pictures.
They are discernible, but I pity anyone who has never installed an aftermarket CPU cooler before with this one.
The mounting brackets have 3 channels to line it up depending on which LGA socket you have, so that adds to the "slack" on lining up the pins to the board.

After at least 30 mins, I finally had my final "click" and satisfying feel of the last pin securing and it was go time.

This has one fan out of the box, which you can mount on either side, with another bracket to attach another one if purchased separate.

One thing to keep in mind is to check the fan before firing it up.
Mine had one of the small rubber spacers/feet come off the block and stick to a fan blade so it would catch the block while spinning.
This was out of the box - could have potentially damaged this if I had not checked before powering on.

Other Thoughts: If you have installed other after market coolers, this should not be a problem for you
If you have a large enough case - this one will keep your CPU nice and frosty

5 out of 5 eggsTricky Installation - Read me if you are AMD

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: It is a very large heat sink! Yay! Has a fan on it. Yay!

Cons: Bad installation - to those that tried to force this bad boy onto your cpu and messed it up big time - this is how you do it right.
0. Take the Motherboard out for 1000% ease. Or you better have one long screw driver and tiny hands to get into the kinks of your machine.
1. You put the heatsink on top, try to clip it - "DA FUQ, THE CLIPS ARE HELLA SHORT...."
2. Loosen the screws on the base plate for AMD models that you would clip the heatsink onto.
This allows the base plate to raise a few cm to - you guessed it! TO ACTUALLY FIT PERFECTLY!!!
3. Clip this bad boy muda fuqa on.

Other Thoughts: I am illuminati.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler 4 Heatpipes 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED

Pros: Works well and inexpensive, did not push into the RAM on my mobo (AsRock Z97X Killer). Deepcool customer service is usually pretty good.

Cons: Like many other people, I found installing this heatsink to be a pain. The only form of instructions are some poorly printed pictures on the back of the box. I've installed a lot of heatsinks, and this one still took me a good 15 minutes of fiddling with to sit properly, and clamp in.

Have a look at the pictures, and think about how the mounting brackets you need to use will work before you apply thermal paste and attempt to mount the heatsink.
