5 out of 5 eggsExcellent ---for the Price--- !

Pros: The BEST part of this Altec Lansing product is the separate Volume, Bass/Treble, and On/Off controls. So many other products require that you fiddle with an awkward control on the speaker side or back. I love music, and music is at it's best when the volume and bass/treble is "just right". The price and the separate volume control wheel is what sold me on this product.

Cons: I would like to see the volume control better protected from spills, not "my" spills, but *others'* spills. My cell phone that I have nearby gives no interference, so maybe it's not a GSM phone.

Other Thoughts: I would purchase this product again. The left and right speakers are pleasant to look at. They have a mesh see-through grill on them. I have the sub sitting under the desk on top of a box. That works fine, and I've never kicked it. 7 watts to each speaker, and 14 watts to the sub, is just right for the setup I'm using. I didn't purchase through New Egg, I bought it off the shelf at Fry's.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Sound, Horrible Build Quality

Pros: Pretty good audio when the con's aren't happening. Nice rich low's and decent high's when you adjust them nicely.

Cons: There was a short in the controller that caused a buzzing sound if the cables weren't just right. Touching the controller would cause it to buzz slightly until I messed with the cables for a bit again. Wires were really, really wimpy and overall it felt cheap. No wires came to plug in the mic to the computer, you have to have the 3.5mm cable already if you hope to use the mic or the aux input. Exposed subwoofer made me wonder if I was going to accidentally kick it or something, seemed kind of dumb to have something that important completely unprotected. Volume knob seems really flimsy and weakly attached.

Other Thoughts: I was disappointed from the first minute of opening the box by its very cheap build quality. I took it back a day later to get a refund. Altec Lansing is typically a good brand, but I would strongly recommend buying something other than these speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat sound

Pros: Great bass and sound. Love it. High hi's and deep low's.

Cons: Sometimes picks up wireless interference if cell phone is set next to audio input cable. Not a big deal though. Sometimes a little bit of crackling when cable is moved, and when the volume is down really low, sound only comes out of the left speaker, but that shouldn't be a problem. It's only a problem if you're a sissy and listen to your music extremely quiet.

Other Thoughts: Besides the little cons, which aren't even that big of a deal, these speakers are AWESOME. Great buy.

3 out of 5 eggsoverpriced speakers

Pros: Arguably the most balanced sounding speakers at this price point. Good bass that doesn't distort like it's main competitor and passable satelites with good treble.

Cons: The wired remote has no shielding and is very susceptible to RF interference, especially from cell phones that use GSM networks. Has same 'curse' that most 2.1's have with the right speaker being slightly louder than the left at low volumes.

Other Thoughts: A cheap solution to reduce the RF interference is to wrap the whole remote in aluminum foil. You won't be able to use the remote without undoing the wraping but it makes the speakers more usable in such enviroments.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Bass kicks really good and the sound is crisp and clear

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from ancient 2.0 speakers without bass so this is a massive upgrade

2 out of 5 eggsNot so good

Pros: Not too expensive, okay sound, decent bass.

Cons: No tweeters, thus mediocre at best highs. Not shielded (or at least not very well) and thus pick up a lot of interference. The cabling system starts going bad after a while and you get cracking galore. No cover for the subwoofer, it's just exposed...seriously?

Other Thoughts: You may be able to do better for the price; I haven't checked though. But in general I do like Altec Lansing speakers.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Great value and they look quite cool too. Played some metal quite loud and didn't have any distortion. Subwoofer hits hard when turned up.

Cons: Wireless interference! Every time my cell phone gets data I hear beeping for a couple seconds which got annoying quickly. Also I had to move my wireless router further away (3 feet seems ok) to get rid of constant clicking.

Other Thoughts: I wish the subwoofer wasn't on the side of the box since the woofer is on the left, but it wouldn't matter if you have the sub facing sideways or on the right of you.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very good speakers for the money( paid less than $35 too.) The mic worked very well integrated in the module. way better sound than the $12 fancy looking one on the stand. Great access for headphones and aux for players

Cons: ALL Those extra wires!!! I spend a ton going to wifi and wireless this and that but still like this wired remote- go figure.

Other Thoughts: I get no hum , rf or other. I have all kinds of things nearby as well. It is hard to believe it would hit only a portion unless it is user initiated. I caused static in the volume when i spilled soda on the treble dial, gain control and push button switch.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!

Pros: Great sound! The highs sound amazing! The lows hit really well with the sub too! Amazing for the price! Built in mic-port is kinda neat.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I got these at staples for $29.99!! They were on sale just before christmas so I bought these and the same set-up without the sub for $19.99! The quality is superb for the price! I wish I bought myself a couple extras!

1 out of 5 eggsAmp Blew after 2 min of play

Pros: Sounded good when they played, looked nice. I liked the idea of a built in mic.

Cons: After playing music at a moderate to high volume for 2 min - the entire system blew.

Other Thoughts: Didn't buy them from Newegg - but I wish I had - it's been 3 weeks and I still haven't gotten my money back yet.
