3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Needed a cheap set for my wife's new comp. She picked them out based on style mainly. Kind of need design and that they hook together.

Cons: As one reviewer said, it's lame that both speaker as hardwired directly to each other (no substituting for a longer cable). So you can keep them more than 2-3' apart. Makes neat cabling kind of an issue.

They're light and knock over easy, but for this price it's expected.

No real bass depth. Blue LED power button is pretty bright in a dark room.

Other Thoughts: Not sure I'd buy again. But they fit the bill.

2 out of 5 eggsCompact, but very low quality

Pros: Compact
Produce sound

Cons: Horrible sound quality
Low quality volume regulator - produces screeching sounds
EXTREMELY short non-detachable cables

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed, considering the price. Would be OK throw-aways for $5-10, but for $30 I expected a bit higher quality.

4 out of 5 eggsPratical

Pros: Cheap, decent sound quality, compact. You can link them together.

Cons: Its cheap, so don't expect a sound enthusiast to be pleased. The wires aren't very long, so definitely keep that in mind before you purchase these speakers.

Other Thoughts: Oh yea, like someone mentioned, the I/O light is very bright. I put some tape over it to dim it a bit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the money, but...

Pros: Great sound from such a compact set of speakers.

Built-in headphone and aux jacks.

Cons: Not only are the speakers are hard wired to each other, but the input cable is hard wired to the right speaker. This cable is 45 inches long, which should do the job if your computer is on the right. If it isn't (and mine wasn't, or I wouldn't be bringing this up), you will need another cable and possibly an extender.

These speakers are worth the money, but I took a star off because of the aforementioned cable problems.

Also, Newegg charges 8 dollars to ship these things. C'mon guys, they weigh two pounds!

Other Thoughts: I always enjoy getting a new set of speakers and re-exploring my music collection. These speakers sound a bit bright, which could be due to the lack of bass. I like the sound, though.

These Altecs replaced a pair of Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 Speaker System, which, in theory, are a better speaker.

In reality, the Klipsch's were rendered useless by a cheap volume control, which would cut out one channel or the other, and were scratchy any time I tried to adjust the volume.

I dis-assembled the speakers once and blew compressed air through the volume control, but this turned out to be only a temporary fix.

NOTE TO COMPUTER SPEAKER MANUFACTURES: the volume is adjusted from the computer via software. Ditto the MP3 player. The speaker volume knob is just a disaster waiting to happen. Do your customers a favor and leave it off!!!

NOTE TO ALTEC: when you leave the volume knob off the speakers, spend the money on jacks for the cables!

4 out of 5 eggsVS1520 speakers

Pros: Nice design, compact, versatile, Auxiliary input for mp3 players / portable CD

Cons: Missing deep bass

Other Thoughts: I was able to purchase these at an office supplies store for under $20. For that price the speakers were worth it. We use them connected to a PC to play audio cds, plus use the auxillary input for our MP3 players. Bass is not existent that can be expected from the design.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Enough

Pros: These are great PC speakers which will work for most general PC users. 3 watts means you have room to turn them up although in a quiet area I have them about halfway. As long as you know your not getting a surround sound hi-end system you know what your getting. Great sound out of two speakers.

Cons: LED Power light is super bright & blue. I'd prefer it were more subdued, enough to know it's on not to know it's there.

Other Thoughts: The speakers are wired together with about 36" of wire between them. The PC connection wire to speakers is 48" long. Just so you know. Many times my cases are far from my desk which means I might need an extension cable.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Speakers

Pros: I chose by name brand and it could have been better if it were free.

Cons: The speakers are hard wired to each other, which means you have to know fight them a little to get them where you want them. Knobs are a little short and close together. I can't grab the knob to turn it I have to put pressure on it to move it.

Pros: They get the job done for the price I paid. Good aesthetic look.

Cons: Weak, but like I said, they were cheap.
