4 out of 5 eggsReasonable 2nd-notch budget speakers

Comments: These speakers are definitely bass heavy, especially using Creative cards(which boost and muddy up the bass themselves - for real overall sound quality better to go for an M-Sound if you have $, or the new Chaintech card...or a Turtle Beach barring those two), and there's no bass control either, but the sound quality is very reasonable for their lower-end pricing, and the headphone jack is a great convenience.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: great set of speakers, if you are looking for a cheap, good sounding sub/desktop speaker combo, go with this. I bough these at sams club for only 30 bucks... (cheaper than new egg??????) and i have been very happy with them. it would be nice to have a bass control on the speakers themself because this little sub does put out alot, but so many programs have EQ's built into them, it doesnt bother me too much, i just turn the bass down in there. however, the punchy bass sounds awesome when playing counterstrike, gunshots shake my keyboard. :-)

5 out of 5 eggsBig Bang / Small Package

Comments: These speakers have great range for upper low-end PC speakers (35 Hz ~ 18 kHz). Playback classical music on these little gems and I think you'll be impressed. However, they ARE only 2.1 (Stereo & Subwoofer), so look elsewere if you need surround (duh) or ground-shaking bass.

They're great for:
+ CD playback
+ MP3 playback
+ Everyday OS usage
+ Low to mid-level volumes

They're not so great for:
- DVD playback
- 3D games
- High sound volumes

I give these a 5-star rating as compared to other 2.1 stereo systems, especially considering the price tag.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Sound

Comments: <a href='http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/altec221/' target=_blank>http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/altec221/</a>

Purchased these speakers after reading several review and as it turns out they seem to tie the Z-340's by Logitech both having trade offs. The only bad thing I can say is they don’t have a bass control knob. If you want that then the 5.1 Version has it. Must be the money.

2 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Note to buyer: these speakers have no bass or treble controls. I found the bass to be overpowered and muffled, and ended up returning the speakers, because I disliked the sound so much.

Another minor thing. All of the cables are perminatly connected to the speakers and are somewhat short.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Comments: Bought these to replace an older pair of Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers. Quality is great, had to turn down the subwoofer volume, though. They are good-looking and the power button is a nice upgrade from the old volume/power dial they used to have.

Comments: Great set of speakers! Connected in seconds and the sound was incredible! I upgraded from some cyber acoustics CA-2022 2 piece and its like the difference between night and day. These put out some awsome sound and great bass. These are a deffinite must for a gamer or someone that uses their speakers for serious stuff. My only complaint is that the wires should be longer. But all in all a fantastic buy!

4 out of 5 eggsDamn good

Comments: I was originally going to get the z-340s but they were out of them and on clearance so i decided to get these for three bucks more.Wow the sattlelite speakers sound as good as the ones on my z560s (the thx certified logitech system) A bass control would be convieniant because it has too much bass with such a small driver although at low volumes this sytem sounds just amazing and thats what i bought it for is the low listening.

5 out of 5 eggs221 System

Comments: A very good deal, for the money you cant go wrong. Although no sub speaker volume control, it still shows its a real 2.1 system.
