5 out of 5 eggsThese update T40's are even better!

Pros: I have a 5+ year old set of Creative T40 Gigaworks speakers purchased from Newegg which have performed perfectly to this day. When my son's hand me down pc finally died (Asus P6T motherboard finally picked up an annoying quirk of trashing it's o/s) and thru a process of swapping out parts we determined the old set of vintage Pentium 4 speakers would not output listenable sounds. Decided to spend the extra bucks to a identical set of Creative T40's. Newest set of T40's which power down automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity on the speakers. Nicest feature I have seen yet from Creative. More importantly you can easily hook the T40's to home TV's in minutes. Small footprint makes these non 2.1 speakers easy to hide behind a tv or flat panel pc display. Did I mention the sound is the best out there? Item was stocked across the river at Newegg's NJ warehouse so I know delivery would also be completed in under 24 hours...yay!

Cons: Newegg once again provides free shipping however it's "egg saver" versus standard UPS delivery. I hate egg-saver delivery simply because it takes over a week for delivery and this is a order coming just across the Hudson river in NJ. Broke my heart paying the extra $3 just to get UPS delivery versus egg-saver delivery....needed them in a hurry this time otherwise I would relent on egg-saver free delivery.

Other Thoughts: Prices for T40's have stayed relatively constant these last 5-7 years. Paid roughly $120 for the first set and just paid $114 for this new set of T40's

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: They look cool without the covers?

Cons: They sound muffled
They're kind of big
They SUCK at passing through audio to headphones

Other Thoughts: I got these on sale because I wanted new computer speakers and since the reviews were consistently pretty high, I thought they'd be good. Boy, was I wrong. These are worse than the 10 year old Logitech 2.1 system they replaced.

They sound muffled at any volume and what's worse: they muffle the audio pass-through to the headphones!

3 out of 5 eggsPretty great but for one big thing

Pros: Sound quality is pretty good for the price. Nice range, high and low. Build quality is good as well, really feels solid. The two front ports (headphones and line in) are very helpfully placed. They're also quite attractive, I find. The front bezels have a sparkly blue look that ads a touch of class to it without looking silly and blingy.

Cons: The auto-shutoff is, at best, exceptionally aggravating. It goes into a sort of sleep mode when audio hasn't played for five minutes or so. I wouldn't mind, except for that it can't be shut off or bypassed, and once it tries to exit sleep it takes a good five to ten seconds. On top of that, if the audio is too quiet, it won't exit sleep mode, so if you know there's sound but the speakers aren't firing up, you need to crank the volume on the PC.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, But Lacking In Clarity.

Pros: They look nice, have a small footprint, powerful sound, and great bass for such a small set of speakers. Clarity could be a bit better, but still a great set of speakers and I did ultimately pack my old speakers up and put them in my closet to keep these on my desk.

Cons: Compared side by side with my 15 year old Boston 2.1 set that I got with a Gateway computer, the sound clarity was a little lacking. Everything seems to be a little muffled ad some of the tones are meshed together. I was really quite shocked that my old Boston speakers sound less muffled even if you take the bass all the way down to try to compensate for the difference of the 2.0 vs. 2.1 system.

Other Thoughts: A friend of a friend had brought a set of these speakers to a BBQ on a deck in Chicago to play music from a phone. I thought they sounded really nice and they were so loud they drew noise complaints from the neighbors. That's what got me interested in these speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsNice system

Pros: 3 way system that does a nice job and looks good.

Cons: No separate mute switch. A little tall for some.

Other Thoughts: I didn't care about the height. I also didn't need lots of bass. (To me, it just distorts the music.) But I did want a mute switch as this system is in my bedroom. It's nice being able to switch between no sound and sound without turning on the monitors.

It would also have helped if the input cable the unit came with was longer. It's a long reach from the back of my computer through my corner computer desk past 2 monitors to the right side speaker. So I reversed the system.

Both were minor and not enough to cost the system an egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers

Pros: Considering the cost, these speakers have a balanced response and pretty nice bass - good presence, fairly tight, and not muddy. Sure, they're not as good as my stereo system, but I paid 4x the amount for that!

The auto power off feature may bother some, but it's great for people like me who forget to turn them off all the time.

Cons: Just that I had to wait for a while to get them on sale (I got them for $120).

Other Thoughts: I use these for working on music composition and for gaming, and they do a great job on both for the price. I wouldn't want to finalize a mix on them, but they do a great job for writing and getting a rough mix down.

4 out of 5 eggsGood 2.0 Speakers

Pros: The sound quality is great. It's clear and crisp for all ranges of sound. I don't expect much bass out of a 2.0 setup, but these speakers preform well. The bass stands well on it's own.

Cons: The power idles after 10 minutes, and takes 4 seconds to power up when sound is played. It's common enough to be annoying.

They're large and take up more desk space than anticipated. It's my fault I didn't look into it's dimensions.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I got these instead of a 2.1 setup. I don't particularly like rumbling bass that have questionable clarity, but I want to hear some bass.

I don't have a need for loud speakers, so the power that these speakers can put out kinda go to waste. My fault again for not buying something smaller.

Other than that, I'm quite satisfied with it's quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers

Pros: I'm listening to these now and they are crystal clear. Even at full volume they haven't cut out on me or lost clarity. The quality is great, they look awesome. For the size of the speaker the bass is pretty good. If you are wanting a lot of boom get a 2.1 system. I plan on adding a sub later. The power down feature is actually pretty handy seeing as I tend to forget to turn my speakers off. As everyone else says, the yellow cones with the glossy black cabinet finish to boot look awesome.

Cons: None that I have found yet.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking to buy a pair of speakers in this price range then this is about as good as it gets. I'll be keeping an eye out for more products by Creative.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: good sound, attractive design

Cons: audio goes to "sleep," which is good for power saving. it comes back on when it recognizes that the computer is requesting it to make noise, but there's like a five second delay, so you'll have to restart a lot of videos
