3 out of 5 eggsAwesome but don't last

Pros: The sound is awesome, while they last

Cons: Like so many others, I've had to repair mine. Had to buy new BASH chips and replace a bunch of components on the board, and that was even after it failed for the first time and I had installed a cooling fan. Finally, I gave up on the amplifier and now I'm just using the speakers with a 5.1 A/V amplifier instead.

5 out of 5 eggsTitans

Pros: These have lasted me since 2005. They still work well, they still sound great, I doubt I will ever buy a different brand

Cons: some of the hardware has broken down namely the legs ended up being a bit fragile but I mounted them to the walls anyways.

Other Thoughts: They are going on seven years and have moved with me six times now. Maybe more

5 out of 5 eggsThe best speakers I've ever had

Pros: Perfectly sounding PC speakers.

Cons: High failure rate.

Other Thoughts: I looked for speakers that will make me happy. Listened to lot of sets. About 3 years ago I owned the Bose Companion 3. Bass was soft and powerful, overall sound was good. Unfortunately it was 2.1. Than I switch to Companion 6. It sounded worse even though the 5.1 effect. One day I went to the Best Buy and tried Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Finally I found the speakers. Couple days after I bought Promedia Ultra 5.1. I don't think anybody will ever make better sounding computer speakers. (I had to repair it two times so far, but luckily you can buy every part for it - bough it used and owned for 3 years).

5 out of 5 eggsStill An Option

Pros: Maybe you're like me. Maybe you have a really great sound card and care about your PC audio. Let me guess, your choices have come down to the Z-5500's and/or the S550's or just a HTIB?

Maybe you've discounted the ProMedia 5.1 Ultra's because of the amplifier overheating problems. Don't count them out yet. There is hope for this amazing speaker system.

Pros:

Tweeters (high frequencies are spot on).
Very great subwoofer, very tight.
Loud. Very, very loud.
I rather like the control pod.
Professionally made.
Klipsch.

I had initially wanted to get the Edifier S550's or the Z-5500's. Unless you live in an area where the former is an available, don't try for them. The Z-5500's are the king of functionality and acceptable sound, but, really, many HTIB's surpass them in the price range nowadays.

I have been trying to get a 5.1 surround sound system for my PC for months now. I spent many hours laboring over reviews and deciding. Despite the amp problems, I ended up getting th

Cons: Subwoofer needs some EQ tweaking. I like lots of bass, not overwhelming but I like a lot of it, so, I had to tweak the EQ for higher bass levels. The sub can handle it very easily. Get it to your liking. The bass on this is amazing.

High amounts of static noise when speaker system is left to idle at high volumes, however, it's not noticeable when playing at high volumes (50-80).

Other Thoughts: If you don't need the extra functionality of the Z-5500's, why bother getting them? I use my PC for movies, some games and music. I never watch TV. I wanted the best. I think I got it. I'm mostly pleased. I upgraded from the Z-2300's, while I'm not absolutely blown away so far, I'm very happy with them. I got them used, but, still, in great condition.

The trick to make these last? Install a cooling kit in the sub. Just look it up and you'll see it's a great way to keep this system alive for many years and it's not all that expensive (nor hard) to put in.

These speakers should still definitely be an option on the table for you. If you don't need all the bells and whistles and lack-of-a-tweeter in the Z-5500's, go for the Klipsch's if you can't get the Edifier's at a non-absurd price. With proper cooling, this system is great.

I am still tweaking them and I'm sure I'll be very happy when this is all over. It's interesting to hear mid-range in music, something my Z-2300's didn't

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A good sounding speaker unit. The sound remote is easy to use and adjust the verious settings for the sub, center, rear speakers.

Cons: This brand of speaker is prone to amp failers straight out of the box. I had to go threw 3 differnt speakers before I got a working one. The first one which I bought at a differnt company came with no cables but the one I got from newegg lasted about a week before the amp fried.

Other Thoughts: Klipsch has a horried customer service center. Took them over a month and half just to get a replacement amp and they dont give any status updates and most of the time its a pain to reach a customer service rep.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great cystal clear sound. Bass sounds great. This makes your music sound excellent, you will be happy with the quality!

Cons: Seems to be a high rate of failure, due to overheating. If you install a cooling system in the sub, you will have no problems.

Other Thoughts: My first unit was defective, but Newegg made sure everything turned out great. NEWEGG ROCKS!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic sound

Pros: Very clean and articulate sound.
The bass is enormous y pristine. Excellent treble. Tight and controlled thunder
For 80's music is the perfect system. With PMU 5.1 I listen my entire mp3 collection again.

Cons: Amp becomes very hot quickly .
Promedia lack of digital decoder and remote control, but I don't care because I found the best system sound for my music.

Other Thoughts: I was extremely impressed with this system.
These are the best-sounding multimedia speakers you can buy, but you need a 5.1 soundcard and very well recorde music.
Now, with PMU 5.1, FLAC music format has sense for me.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best PC sound system

Pros: The most accurate sound reproduction in a PC speaker system, period. Horn Tweeters and mid drivers make the best combination. Klipsch is world renowned for this kind of quality reproduction and this model is proof. You can use this system as a home theater amp and speakers and it will rock your world! Recommend you purchase the Promedia DD-5.1 Digital Decoder Pre-amplifier from Klipsch to expand the systems capabilities. The powered Sub is fantastic! Read on...

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: First, I hate it when people write negative reviews just to bash a brand they know nothing about. Don't trust reviews from anyone using N/A for a nickname.
Second, Klipsch's customer service is tops! Third, if you use built-in sound from a motherboard, it will most likely sound as bad as it really is. Purchase a good sound card like a Creative X-Fi or Audigy 2. You will be happy and excited about your PC all over again!
