4 out of 5 eggsNewer model available for a great system

Pros: Very easy setup
Server software has lots of features and can run as a service
iTunes playlist support
Internet radio
Headphone out jack
Alarm clock functionality -- wake up to a playlist!
Good sound quality
Fantastic self-contained device, works in any room of the house that has network (either wifi or ethernet)

Cons: *** newer model available *** the model shown on this page is for an older model -- one I have that works great, but there <em>is</em> a newer model. Look up the <a href="http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/wireless-music-systems/devices/5847">Squeezebox Radio.</a>
Lacks one-touch pre-programmed settings. Switching output modes, shuffle, and repeat must be done individually.

Other Thoughts: This is a great system. I'm a big fan of the Logitech Squeezebox systems -- we have both a boom and a duet and they have really changed the way we enjoy music in the house. I would highly recommend to anyone who has a vast music collection and would like a simplified interface. I want one of these for nearly every room, now.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Wonderful

Pros: -Quick, easy setup
-Automatically locates and categorizes Internet radio
-Squeezebox Server Add-In for Windows Home Server
-Basically does everything it says it does, as easily as it says it does it.

Cons: None. Really. None.

Other Thoughts: I'm so excited to own this product - I was talking with my coworkers just a couple of months back about my wish for a device that would stream music off of my Windows Home Server without the need for a computer hooked up to it. That's exactly what this does, and it's easily integrated into future Squeezebox products.

Excellent. Logitech wins again. I own their mice, their Harmony One remote, their keyboards, their speakers (the Z-5500s are amazing), and now their Squeezebox. They have yet to fail me or even leave me unimpressed.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Audio Quality awesome! It streams almost everything. Wake up with your favorite radio Station from anywhere in the world. Alarm features, Automatic Backlight, Wireless OR Wired, Line IN, runs from 110V-240V, Remote, Sleep function and soooo many features more.

Cons: Absolutely NONE!

Other Thoughts: I purchased my from BB almost 2 yrs ago and I'll love it! No Day goes by without it. Streaming German Bundesliga while having Breakfast on Saturday priceless :)

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic product line

Pros: Fantastic multiple-platform support (Linux., BSD, OSX, that other OS), solid hardware platform, huge selection of on-line music, SqueezeCenter server works flawlessly on my Linux fileserver with my local collection as well as on-line music services with Last.fm scrobbling. Had a question about adjustable MTU setting and customer support for this product was highly knowledgeable! A CS rep at logitech actually wrote me an iptables rule to circumvent my MTU issue!

Since this is also built around open-standards, it can be controlled from standards-based jukebox servers and web-apps alike, huge benefits from other closed-source proprietary junkboxes.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For you coders out there, all of the plug-ins for this box are written in perl so you can write your own. There is a huge community following for the squeezebox since it was almost entirely written by the open-source community.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: Super easy set up, flexible, works nicely with their web site. Looks great, and sounds great.

Cons: Remote could have a few more features, but Logitech does sell one with more features for 29.00

Other Thoughts: Now I want one for every room.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth its weight in gold

Pros: Amazing device... Extremely user friendly and versatile...

Cons: None what so ever...

Other Thoughts: Wow... Here's what it does:

1. It works without a computer. Everything is accessible through the few buttons and knobs on the device.

2. If you have a laptop, you can control everything, I mean everything, over wireless (volume, choose songs to play, choose radio stations, rewind, pause, power on/off, etc.)

3. It has thousands of radio stations from all over the world already included! I was able to tune in most obscure Turkish radios easily, without issues.

4. You can do all these really easily, without reading any manual... So intuitive.

Simply wow... The first time I felt the need to write a review so quick... Kudos to Logitech and Slimdevices.

5 out of 5 eggsIt did just what I wanted

Pros: I've been listening to music almost exclusively on my PC for a while now using both CDs ripped to my hard drive and Rhapsody. I was looking for an easy way to be able to play music in other parts of my house. This is a pretty easy solution. The sound is great and it took very little time to setup, connect to Rhapsody, and go.

Cons: The wireless in my house can be a little sketchy (which has nothing to do with this product), and that can cause issues. As long as the box has a good connection, it works well.

Other Thoughts: I've been very happy with it. It does exactly what I wanted with no hassle.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best

Pros: This Boom is simply amazing. We have an existing whole house squeezebox sound system not only did it integrate seamlessly and sync with the existing system it sounds great!

Cons: The included remote is weak. But, used with either an squeezebox Duet controller, squeezebox's free online squeezecenter service, or a home media server running squeezecenter with iPeng (allows control via the iPhone) the limitations are easily overcome.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little device

Pros: Awesome sound quality from a device of this size - if you get a chance, read the whitepaper Slim/Logitech released on this unit, it will give you a little insight on why this thing sounds so good.

IP Audio distribution/whole house audio -- Part of a larger system - the real power in this device is that it can be part of a much larger system. Check out the full line of Slim Devices (now logitech) products to see what else you can do with audio in your home (I have a total of six of their devices in my home and shop and it has completely changed the way I listen to music).

Great WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) - the wife loves these devices as much as I do.

If you want more sound than it can provide, you can hook up it's headphone jack to a powered sub, then select the subwoofer setting -- it's internal DSP will change the internal crossover settings to divert all the low freq's to your sub, preserving it's internal power for mids and highs.

Cons: Initial cost -- we've been conditioned to think of boom box devices as something that should cost $20 from your favorite big box store. This device offers up so much more quality (both audio and build) and features that making that comparison is not fair at all. Personally, I think the cost is pretty reasonable considering what you're getting.

Some get stuck on the fact that this has no FM tuner. My thought personally is that if you're looking at this device, you're probably not looking to buy to play terrestrial FM radio on it. Plus, most FM stations can be streamed in across the network, static free - and there's a lot better content and quality out there from the services mentioned below.

Other Thoughts: One of about four different types of devices in this line, this one fits the niche of the "all in one" device that's easily portable around the house.

Since it's wireless it's great for moving around in the house anywhere you want to stream your local audio collection or connect to various music services or content aggregators like Pandora, Last.FM, Rhapsody, Shoutcast, etc..... I even take it to my parent's house on occasion for streaming music during get-togethers.

Since it also has a line-in, you can use it as a very high end mp3 player dock or as your computer speakers (while also streaming audio content)...

Hope that didn't sound too much like an advertisement, lol! I've just built my network of slimdevices over the last year and use them on a daily basis - they're actually on far more often than my television.
