Wrap yourself in sound with the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker system. At the heart of the Z-5500 is a powerful subwoofer with a 10-inch ported driver that provides added excitement to action movies, bone-rattling bass to music, and greater realism to games. Each of the four satellites and the center-channel speaker feature a unique driver design that places a tweeter at the center of a larger mid-range driver. The result is a smooth combination of sounds with the fullness of a much larger speaker.
Also, if you're looking for cool pro-audio looks, the Z-5500 doesn't disappoint. Cloth grilles are removable and the pedestals rotate for easy wall mounting or desk placement. The center channel can be mounted on a wall, or above or below the monitor. Finally, the Digital SoundTouch Control Center puts command of the system at your fingertips. Digital LCD lets you select audio source, digital surround sound effect, adjust parameters of digital surround sound effects, adjust the volume levels of the individual speakers, mute the entire system, and of course, turn the set on and off. There's even an auxiliary input jack to conveniently connect other audio devices.

Best value for money EVER
- Pros: Pros are just as everyone says - you simply can't get better sound for this price. I've got 2 of these, both sound so fantastic. Subwoofer really pumps the bass. I'm very picky about sound quality, and despite the cons I listed, I've never regretted buying these speakers.
- Cons: One of these units I bought has a sticky spot on the volume nob, as 2 others have indicated.
Also, audio quality could be better (gasp!). The satellites have great mids and highs, but are rather lacking in the lows-mids. The satellites put out more of a "pop pop pop" than a deeper "dum dum dum"; this is why music can sound a bit hollow despite the booming sub. For the sub, they've got the same 187 watt driver that they used in the z680, only this time it drives a 10" speaker instead of the 8" one in the z680. This is why it sounds a bit muddy and slow to respond. What you'll hear with some bass-heavy music when you turn it up loud (and not until you turn it up loud) is a "pop-unf pop-unf pop-unf", with the "unf" being the sub coming in slightly after the "pop" you hear from the satellite. But I've found you can mostly fix the "pop" you hear from the satellites with the right equalizing (turning up the 150-230hz seems to do the trick). Turning down the sub helps the delay ("pop-unf").
- Other Thoughts: I'm incredibly picky about my music and sound. Despite the things I listed in the cons list, I still love this sound system to death. The cons I listed make the system sound like its low quality, but its really not. With the right music player and equalizer (Foobar2000 is my favorite with its 18 band EQ), this system is 93% perfect. You'd be hard pressed to find something that can get as loud as this can but sound just as good. In fact I don't think there's anything that parallels this sound quality given the price range. Logitech really has a gem here.
Until I've got $5000 to blow, I won't be upgrading from this. Its just that good. Considering that sound systems can last you 15+ years, this is quite possibly the best upgrade for your money that you can ever buy for your entertainment center, be it your PC or TV or game system or whatever. I've never spent my money better. So do yourself a favor and give your ears a treat!
Better than many HTIB
- Pros: Packaging was very well done. 25 Ft of wire for each rear sat, and 15 Ft for each front L/R/C. Plenty for most needs. I set this up in the same room and config as my Onkyo HT-S760(6.1 750 Watt HTIB) to compare side by side so here's my rating of this system:
Treble(satelites): Awesome 9/10, only highest highs might be a little muddy, but sounded nearly as good as my Onkyo
Medium tones: Great, 8/10, some lower mid tones come through the sub but still has the presence of full sound spectrum (required for THX certification).
Bass(subwoofer): Awesome 10/10, just as good as my Onkyo, if not better, and has more watts
Movies: 9/10, Decodes DTS and DD through Coax or optical inputs (I tried with LOTR:return of king DTS and Star Wars II Dolby)
Music: Great 8/10, may sound a little hollow to some ears, great bass though.
- Cons: At this price, I can't get too picky for a THX system with 500+ RMS watts. This system will hold it's own against most HTIB or PC speakers under eight hundred $$$, especially, S**y, Panason*c, Sams*ng, Phill*ps, and RCA HTIB. The only system I would rather have under one thousand $$$ is my Onkyo HT-S760 (also see HT-S770 and HT-S780). Avoid B-o-s-e as well (way overpriced for medium sound quality) I also will mention that I chose this over the Kxxxsh 5.1 ultras because of price, and some reliability problems with their Amp (tends to overheat and blow).
Also, since it uses normal speaker wire, you can upgrade the satellites for even better sound(not really necessary but leaves your options open) and still keep the subwoofer.
Oh, this box is for cons so I better list one:
Dongle for Control Center could be longer for placing sub farther away.
- Other Thoughts: I read hundreds of reviews and went to a few stores to compare these in person before making my purchase and decision. Your own listening preference and liking is always most important so listen to the systems you are thinking about and then order from Newegg (best prices on products and shipping!).
I also looked at the Logitech Z-5300 which sounded alright, but the bass was too boomy and not as accurately produced and the highs were not as crisp so if you can afford the extra $$$, this system is much more bang for the buck.

These things last
- Pros: I have owned these speakers for over 4 years now and they sound just as good on the day I bought them. I have turned them all the way up (which by the way is REALLY loud) frequently to impress people, and the sound clarity is amazing, all the way up through the boost. The Sub can get impressively deep and powerful, enough to shake windows several houses down from mine. The peripheral speakers are very crisp, giving distinct surround that sounds great. These things will fill the room with sound. The classic volume knob is great, and the various settings for different sound profiles actually do something and are great for tweaking the system to what you want.
- Cons: Well, its hard to think of anything about these that have given me any problems...
They are bulky and weigh a good deal. So if you expect to move plan on your speakers taking up a good portion of your trunk.
Also I would have liked to see some longer speaker wire included but that's as easy a fix as stopping by the hardware store.
- Other Thoughts: Newegg as always is amazing, great service, delivery and price.
Great job Logitech, you've done it again
No Regrets
- Pros: My favorite thing about this system.....THE CONTROL UNIT! It is so handy to plug headphones into and has a aux port for anything you wanna plug in there. The system has 3 different inputs for your TV / game console audio (i.e. coaxial, direct 5.1 analog, and optical). It looks sleek and you can tweak the sub, center, surround levels. Its got 4 different presets for speaker channeling being stereo, stereo x2, Dolby music, Dolby movie, and 6 channel direct. Love the adjustable stands on each speaker for wall mounting (which I used full advantage).
- Cons: The speakers themselves...I love my audio and it has to be good. These speakers really do lack in the mids but they have real good highs. Course they don't have any lows either that's what the sub is there for. The sub is loud and might sound muddy to some but it does bring the bass and is excellent for watching movies. Remote WORKS great! BUT the feel of it is not up to par with the rest of the system but hey it does work.
- Other Thoughts: Hey when it comes down to it guys THESE ARE COMPUTER SPEAKERS!!! These are the best comp speakers on the market at the moment as far as 5.1 systems go! Amazing for GAMING and watching MOVIES they are fair for music you just have to tweak your equalizer and break them in and they'll sound much better. The control unit again man is amazingly handy it handles all sound from my TV to my xbox and does a good job. These are definitely the standard for computer 5.1 audio at the moment.
words can not describe
- Pros: Louder than anyone needs it to be, wireless remote, sleek looking control hub, optical input.
- Cons: expensive, but worth it.
- Other Thoughts: I know enough about audio to know that I don't know enough to assemble a custom sound system. This is a sound system all in one, with both power and quality. Sure its not built to play in a large room, but its not for that, its for my PC.
I am considering getting another set for my TV and hooking it up to the larger satelites that I already have.
