Nice Sound
- Pros: Excellent sound quality, Don't expect a lot of base out of a studio monitor at the 28-180 range, you have to be some distance before bass waves fully develop and unless you have a specialized sub with bass tubing (like a bose sub) you won't get the true bass sound. Excellent midrange/high range and reverb fidelity.
- Cons: bass boost distorts other ranges too much, overdrives speaker.
- Other Thoughts: good quality for price, excellent desk speakers.
M-Audio AV 40
- Pros: -Very good midrange, I own a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pros and the midrange in these speakers sounds great compared to those headphones.
-Very powerful overall volume output. These speakers can easily be used in a home theater to replace the subpar speakers that usually come pre-installed on LCD tv's and even paired with a subwoofer to fill in some missing bass.
I love how they ship with the headphone to RCA, speaker wire (although go ahead and use a lower gauge for better sound quality), and 1/4" to 1/4" headphone cable extension, very handy.
- Cons: The bass in these speakers sound alright however you can tell after listening to a system with a good subwoofer that the 4" woofers can't produce the lowest frequencies from about 20Hz to 180Hz very effectively. I would recommending pairing these with a subwoofer to fill in that gap and have some great listening experiences.
Sometimes the high's sound a little harsh.
- Other Thoughts: Great speakers for the price. Looking forward to enjoying many years of use out of them.
Very pleased with these speakers.
- Pros: Everything. The construction and materials used are top notch. Real wood cabinets, silk tweeters and switches and jacks that feel REAL. They also have a fabulous selection of inputs. My touch-screen mp3 player sounds great plugged into the aux audio jack in front. The highs are so crisp my dog noticed (really), and finally a "bass-boost" switch that isn't just a "muddy" button! Like an earlier reviewer mentioned, they are a little bigger in size than my last pair, but a LOT bigger in sound. These speakers make an aging Audigy2 ZS and mp3 player sound like never before. They get the fifth star for giving me more bang-for-the-buck out of things I already own. Anybody with an LCD TV looking to improve upon the built in speakers couldn't go wrong with these. They sound better than any 5.1 setup I have ever heard, anywhere near the same price.
- Cons: I was going to put down the location of the power button in the rear as a con, but the more I think about it, I like it there. Eventually it will keep the front from getting fingerprints and worn, and they have such a nice finish.
- Other Thoughts: I have a pair of "higher end" name brand computer speakers that I thought were pretty good. Now that I have heard these, I can't see ever using them again. Rarely am I as pleasantly surprised with a purchase as I am with this. I picked up a Bluray drive with these here at Newegg. I only own one Bluray movie so far, but the DTS audio and these speakers are a huge jump in audio quality around here. Without breaking the bank.
