2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: its a microphone

Cons: product I received is not what is pictured.

Other Thoughts: The product I recieved wasnt the product pictured. The model numbers match tho. I specifically didnt order the 7.99 microphone as it was a single molded piece of plastic, which in my experience, then to make voice sound echo. I specifically chose this one as it appeared to be made of more than one piece of molded plastic. If I had known I'd be getting the cheaper one piece mold anyways I would have paid a few bucks less. Update your picture.

1 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised!

Pros: None.

Cons: The item you get is not what is pictured here or described. You do not get a white microphone with a long boom and a ball joint at the base, you get black microphone with a short boom and a swivel joint at the base that can't even hold the weight of the boom. I wish I had read the reviews instead of hastily ordering it, based on the picture and the description! Poor show, Newegg! Also, it comes in a package that is needlessly difficult to open. And just to add insult to injury, the product actually has a nasty smell to it. This black one is definitely cheap junk, but considering they are both made by Micro Innovations, I wonder if the pictured microphone is any better.

Incidentally, I Googled the model number and all the other online retailers I looked at had the white model pictured. If you're deadset on purchasing this microphone and actually want the product described (!!) consider shopping elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for

Pros: Retro styling. Quality sound AND it came in black instead of the pictured white. Go figure.

Cons: Poor quality. The mic would not stay up. Pulled it out of the package, unfolded it and it flopped back down.

Other Thoughts: I had to literally break it to fix it. I opened the base, removed the 2 screws holding the base of the boom on, broke the tab off and wedged the broken part under the original place it was which applied more pressure to keep the mic standing. Put the screws back in and done. If that didn't work it would have gone into the garbage.

4 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly great mic

Pros: The mic has great quality. It surprised me when I heard the playback. For the price, you get plenty.

Cons: No mute button, and the stand is flimsy. The mic seems to flop down if it's not standing up right.

4 out of 5 eggsThis model goes back to the 1990s

Pros: I got mine in 1999. Enough output to provide full volume for recording or Skype if you turn on the +20dB option in the windoze soundcard software (sndvol32.exe; +20dB option might not be available in some laptops). Then, need to talk about 2 inches from the microphone.

Recommend getting a usb-soundcard adapter -- a microphone socket and a speaker socket on one end, and a USB plug on the other end (Item #: N82E16829128002). Plug microphone into the usb adapter and plug the adapter into a USB socket in your computer, just add water, and then you have a "USB Microphone." My sweety says this microphone sounds a lot better when used this way as a USB mic. USB-soundcard adapters are available for just a couple of bucks on ebpay or amalozon, but I would pay a few bucks more for one with good ratings.

Cons: The sound response is very bassy, which is consistent with a cheap dynamic mic. To reduce the bass response, I wrapped some very lightweight cardboard tightly around the side of the microphone head to cover up the holes around the side. Hold the cardboard in place with scotch tape. Slide the cardboard up and down to vary the bass response -- the more you cover up the side-holes, the less bass.

"Bass" does not contribute to intelligibility. It just annoys the neighbors.

Then, I take an old earphone foam and wrap it around the top of the head (just one or two layers of thin foam) to reduce wind-popping when uttering hard consonants. A cheap, foam wind screen. Hold the foam in place with a rubber band. Replace rubber band every 7 or 8 years.

Other Thoughts: It's snowing in Scranton. Wish I got a Toughbook.

5 out of 5 eggsReally good

Pros: Long cord, sounds great, movable so you can tilt it if you wish or turn it so its backwards.. lays flat so you can store it easily..

Cons: No sticky bottom so it doesnt stay in one spot..

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product.. even though it doesn't have the sticky bottom so it cant be moved.. I Love this microphone Just hope its going to last longer then those bought in regular stores..

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mic

Pros: I have been using this microphone for roughly a year and a half now. It is an amazing microphone, despite how cheap it looks. I also own a Logitech 980186-0403, which is far inferior to this microphone, despite being twice the cost. The noise-cancellation on this microphone works well, and the microphone is very clear.

Cons: None.
