The Companion 3 Series II from Bose is an easy way to get great stereo sound from your computer. It comes with two magnetically shielded speakers already mounted on their stands and an Acoustimass module. There is also a multi-function control pod with a volume control, headphone jack, Aux jack and mute button.
Plug the Acoustimass module into the stereo out jack on the back of your computer and the speakers into the Acoustimass module and you’re ready to enjoy music on your computer in ways you never have before.
The satellite speakers are designed specifically to work with the Acoustimass module. The signals that they get from the controller in the Acoustimass module have been tuned by the integrated signal processing and active equalization for true to the original recording sounds at almost any volume level. The compression circuitry minimizes distortion at high volumes, so go ahead and turn it up.
Pros: The speakers sound great and and are tiny. The volume control is very nice. The mute button and line-in jack on the volume pod are also nice.
Cons: I will take issue with the cabling. The RCA clips and the mini-plug cable are low quality. I was getting some low level background static when the mini-plug was fully inserted to my soundcard. Swapped out for a spare monster I had for the mp3 player and the static was gone.
Other Thoughts: I hesitated for a long time on this purchase. I had been considering some boston acoustic bookshelf speakers and a cheap receiver, which can be sourced for about the same price. I went with these for the small footprint on the desk.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I bought the speaker because I likes to watch the movie. Great bass, clear sound, easy to handle. Don't really need a good sound card system.
Cons: The power button for the woofe is hard to turn off when it is underneath the desk.

Pros: Small and attractive desktop speakers. High quality sound. Nice response from 250Hz-20K Hz. Bose reputation. Cool and sleek design of the volume control (wired remote); touch sensitive on/off is a commendable feature.
Cons: Non-existent ‘low end’... destructive interference of sound waves below approximately 250Hz (MAYBE a little lower, I’m doing this by ear, not meter). This is a profound artifact that makes listening to certain genres (i.e. - hip-hop, rock, techno/eletronica; High bass) of music almost unlistenable at moderate levels. Other types (i.e.-classical, light rock, jazz; Low-bass) are not as affected, and this artifact is hardly noticeable. Another ‘con’ is the input and wired remote. Only has a head-phone style audio jack. I already have to replace the cable that was included with the product. Have not contacted Bose because the problem is only intermittent and I'm sure they wouldn't cover it. The problem is one of the speakers will cut out. When the cord is manipulated (i.e. - kicked) it will cause the speaker to work again or go back out. The "wired remote" looks sweet but clutters up your desk with yet another wire. A wireless battery powered one would be better.
Other Thoughts: Another issues is that the speakers, for as good as Bose reputation is, are VERY underperforming. Sound quality is exceptional but volume is severely lacking. I feel the compression circuitry limits the system too much. My factory speakers, with much less sound quality, were louder than these. I would say this "feature" limits the product to around 75% of available performance. I received this product as a gift (un-returnable) and would have returned it if i would have spent THAT much on it! I am certain other brands could give you a MUCH bigger bang for your buck. If you are looking for a system that sounds great and reproduces sounds you will only hear on these speakers... this is the system for you as long as you don't want to listen from more than 15 feet away.

Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: The price is definitely worth it, always is with Bose.

Not worth the cost

Pros: None
Cons: Way overpriced.
Other Thoughts: I bought a set of Bose speakers (not from Newegg, sorry) with the anticipation of great sound. I guess I was taken in by the hype. Very disappointing. The old speakers sounded better than the new Bose. I had already given the old speakers away so I'm stuck with these for a while. Don't be taken in by their slick commercials. Save some dough and shop around.
