Other Thoughts: This is exactly what I hoped it would be, hanging neatly off of my Dell U2412M and getting it's power from my monitor. If your expectations are not too high, I think you'll be pleased with the sound. It's much better than I had with my previous monitor's built-in speakers (an old Viewsonic flatpanel), which had very tinny sounding speakers, but of course it's not going to have booming bass.

Pros: They put out decent sound for PC speakers, and help reduce clutter on your desk since they fit nicely along the bottom of your LCD monitor (no additional footprint for desktop speakers sitting on the left/right sides of your panel). You just align it with the tabs along the bottom rear of your monitor, slide a bit to the left until it snaps in place, and... presto! It also eliminates the need for an additional power brick to connect to your surge protector. The uniform black color matches well with the Dell U2412M monitor.

The right side of the sound bar controls the volume, which you turn clockwise to increase. You can turn the speakers off by turning it counter-clockwise all the way until you hear a clicking sound. When the speaker is on, a white vertical light appears down the center of the speaker, but it's not bright like some of those blue LEDs you'd find on computer cases.

The left side has two stereo audio-out jacks so you can have two people using headphones simultaneously.

Cons: It lacks good bass, but you'd be looking elsewhere for something with a sub-woofer if that's what you want.

Some might find the vertical white light distracting if you intend to watch a movie on your monitor in the dark, and there's no way to manually disable the light without turning off the speaker. Personally, I don't mind the white light.

Other Thoughts: The speaker is obviously a one-piece item in the package, and has two protruding cables: a short power cable with the male power barrel jack that goes to your monitor, and the longer audio cable that you connect to the audio-out of your onboard/dedicated sound card on your computer.

Although it's not listed in the detailed specifications, this sound bar will mount and function with the Dell U2412M. The AX510 is designed to mount under just about all the Dell UltraSharp (U-series) and Professional (P-series) LCD monitors, because these two series have dedicated power barrel jacks and mounting clips specifically for these type of speakers (for the U2412M, this power barrel jack is located between the AC power connector for the monitor and the DisplayPort connector).

I think the reviewer who mentioned that this is a "paper weight" probably has a Dell E-series monitor ('E' for economy or eco-conscious?). These type of monitors do have the mounting clips for the sound bar, but they have no dedicated power barrel jack. In that case, you need the "AX510PA" model which comes included with the power adapter to connect to a wall socket/surge protector (at the time of this writing, it's not available here - you'll have to get it straight from the Dell site under monitor accessories).

If you happen to buy the AX510 for an E-series monitor by mistake, then you can get the "AS510PA" adapter from @m@zon (not available here nor at the Dell site).

Pros: Sleek design, looks good on monitor

Cons: No power supply. The description did not indicate that it did not come with a power supply. New Dell monitors do not come with addition power inputs for the soundbar. It would have been nice to know it did not come with a power supply. Without it, it is only usefull as a paper weight.

Pros: These monitors are the high quality at a good price I've come to expect from Dell over the years. These monitors are BRIGHT; I turned them down to 60% of their max so I didn't get eye fatigue. No dead pixels and ghosting is non-existent for typical usage (Web browsing/movie watching/light gaming).

Cons: No DisplayPorts. The newer cards are dropping DVI for DisplayPort and these monitors require adapters to plug into the DVI ports on them.
