5 out of 5 eggsIt's Windows

Pros: It's Windows what else more does it do?

Cons: Being as Windows is one of the only operating systems I've ever used, nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsHow Can You Complain

Pros: Works most of the time and I only have to reinstall it when every 2 months.

Cons: Takes forever to install, even on dual core at 3.8 Ghz. with RAID 0 array.

Other Thoughts: If Lxxxx is better, then why would people pay hundreds of dollars instead of using Lxxxx for free. I'm a computer engineer and I'd rather use Windows because it save time that I get to spend with my kids or on hobbies or whatever.

4 out of 5 eggsAll depends on the user...

Pros: XP Pro is a nice OS in my opinion and I have not had any real problems with it.

There a a huge number of ways you can tweak it for performance to get it running really nicely (if you know how to).

Good OS for general and advanced users.

OEM version is nice and cheap.

Cons: It's no secret that it has security flaws...I lowered my rating to 4 just for that.

Other Thoughts: As long as you take care of your computer XP will run fine.

Yes, it is Microsoft's responsibility to take care of their customers but people need to get educated about spyware and malware threats. Just because it has some security problems doesn't mean that it is entirely Microsoft's fault that people have problems with it.

I have an old Western Digital hard drive that came with a Sony VAIO I got about 4 or 5 years ago (this was before I started building my own machines) and I have reformatted it numerous times with XP. Both the hard drive and XP performed fine each time and are running smoothly to this day.

Also, if you do get a new mobo and/or reformat all you need to do is call Windows to activate your same copy on your new hardware and they will be happy to oblige. I've never had problems with it. In fact, I just finished a new Opty build and was able to activate my copy over the internet.

If you need a real workhorse then you should be running Linux.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat OS!

Pros: Easy install. Seems more stable than XP Home. Cannot upgrade previous Windows version with an OEM disk, but one can later upgrade from OEM to a newer version. Very pleased with XP Pro. OEM sure saves you some money. Thx New Egg!

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsA "Genuine" Monopoly and A Lack of Competition

Pros: It's Windows XP. I didn't really need Pro, except for the extended peer-to-peer network abilities. I also figured I may as well get a "genuine" copy (which this is) since my previous version was not.

Cons: The price, and the fact that Microsoft treats us like (note: lack of the word "potential") criminals even when it's clear that we have purchased their product. If you buy a new motherboard or hard drive and have to reformat, then you have to buy this again, even though you've already purchased Windows...

Other Thoughts: I would recommend doing some research before you buy Pro. If you don't really need Pro, then save some money and get Home edition. Vista isn't that far away in the future (2007). Also, if you're considering buying a new WinXP disc, then going OEM is definitely the way to go. The price difference between retail and OEM is incredible. Newegg is incredible, too. "Genuine" monopolies, a lack of competition are not incredible.

5 out of 5 eggsStop complaining.....

Pros: Proven reliable. Don't let the nay-sayers and Microsoft bashers disuade you. XP is a good choice for people who just want the stuff to work with out needing to recompile their kernel :)

Cons: =EXPENSIVE. Buy OEM. =I'm not happy with the interface. I have most everything set back to the Windows 2000 style.
=All the typical Microsoft annoyances. Stupid wizzards and warnings....YEA I KNOW I'VE GOT UNUSED ICONS ON MY DESKTOP, GO AWAY! NO I DON'T WANT A TOUR OF WINDOWS I SAID SO FOUR TIMES ALREADY!

Other Thoughts: Finally legal!!! . I got tired of "work arounds" and badly burned ISO's, It's easier to plunk down some cash and not worry about it.

4 out of 5 eggsMonopoly...

Pros: It works...

Cons: Other than the monopoly Microsoft has on operating systems and the problems validating software, none, I suppose...

Other Thoughts: Wish I could learn to use another OS as easily...

5 out of 5 eggsMicrosoft and 1984

Pros: For the Pro version of Windows, you can't go wrong with NewEgg's price amd fast shipping.

Cons: No cons on this product so far.

Other Thoughts: You must register your copy online or by phone within 30 days of purchase. Big Brother is watching. Keep it safe, keep it legal.
