Cons: Out of the box "Hardware error" This is the second scanner I had to eat in 2 weeks because there is a non-refund policy on this one. And no, it wasn't an open box special, just a regular discounted item. First was a Fujitsu that wasn't compatible with my software, then this one is dead.
Other Thoughts: I should have read the reviews on this scanner. Apparently this is a horrible scanner plaqued with many issues. Even the HP tech support guy said that. Dont buy this one.

What is HP doing?
Pros: It gives you an ADF and a flatbed all in one. The option to load ONLY the drive and not all the other software is great. The system plugged right up out of the box and I was scanning to Acrobat 8.0 pro in minutes.
Cons: I didn't load any of the software becuase I scan straight to Acrobat 8 Pro. The WIA driver is horrible! The software will only come up every other time. The TWAIN driver is the only way to scan with the ADF and even then the default is set to a legal (8.5 x 14) sheet. The only way to change it is to go into the driver and several mouse clicks later change the page size. But then you can not save the setting, so for EVERY job you have to change the legal size to letter size.
Other Thoughts: I only purchased this scanner for the ADF. I have other specialized scanners for photos, and another for 35mm slides and negatives.
