4 out of 5 eggsGood portable scanner

Pros: -Small and Portable
-No power cable, USB powered
-Software works for whats needed for me
-PDF scans

Cons: You gotta be careful about loading the paper, like all scanners if its not perfectly straight it'll go off track and it'll scan slanted, but it still looks ok.

Other Thoughts: I can easily throw it in my laptop bag and bring it with me on trips.
I even use it at the house and have scanned documents with 30+ pages....it wasn't that fun, but it worked.
I'd recommend this product for anyone looking for portability and just a couple of pages at a time.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Small, light, easy-to-use, good software

Cons: Slow scans, but read comments before deciding if this would be a problem for you.

Other Thoughts: The best feature of this product is the very simple software. Scanning software from manufacturers like HP have suffered from "creeping featuritis" for so long that they have become over-complicated, ponderous, beheamoths. Even though the Plustek only scans at half the speed, I can still scan and store invoices, notes, and receipts twice as fast -- just because the software is so simple.

The Plustek software does work with Vista, but must be configured to "run as administrator". If you find you cannot change this, it's probably because you have User Account Control turned off. Just turn on UAC, set the software to run as administrator, then you can turn UAC off again. That's what I did and it works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsNifty Little Scanner

Pros: Nice little scanner. I got it to work fine with Vista. Bought it to scan billing documents at text resolution, so I haven't used it for hi-res or color images. It is fast enough for me and the software can build a multi-page document from a series of scans. It also is fired off from just pressing the button on the scanner. Very convenient.

Cons: Paper needs to be flat or it is difficult to feed it in. If the print it light, you will need to scan grey scale which is a little slowes and creates larger doc sizes.

Other Thoughts: Matches my needs exactly, to maintain my home financial records paperlessly. No more filing cabinets. I don't use the OCR software.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Portable Scanner

Pros: Just got the scanner in and have ran about 40 scans through at all resolutions and DPIs to see what settings I wanted to use(size/quality) - even at the lowest setting this thing gives off great quality! And the size is very good! 700 kbs for a 8.5 x 11 @ 100DPI(which for text is perfect) For a color pic I used 300DPI and got great results at around 1.2 mbs for a 4x6

Cons: None; for everyone with problems - I had issues with it before I ran the setup in compatibility mode, weird lines on scans, sometimes wouldnt work! So I worked out the best way to install and wrote it in below, if you have Vista follow those directions and you will love your new scanner! Works as well as the $expensive$ flat bed scanner at the office

Other Thoughts: This scanner is light & compact. It is very portable and gives great quality scans. The PDF capability is nice and very easy to use! For Vista, follow this install - open the CD files(right click and hit open on the CD in my computer), go into software, then driver, then opticslim, right click on setup and make sure to run in compatible to XP sp2. Then run the setup and thats all! Do not install the rest of the software. Restart - it will walk you through setup and you are all set. Great Quality, Great Price, that means 5 stars to me!!!! I will post a video when I get the chance

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Small, compact, relatively fast

Cons: Doesn't appear to work with Vista, customer support is non-existent

Other Thoughts: I rely on having a small, portable scanner to finalize my jobs while on the road. I used the scanner ONCE and then started receiving a black line down the side. After numerous emails and attempts at calling, I finally reached customer service at PlusTek who told me to download the latest drivers from their website. I installed and uninstalled several times with the same black line results. After 6 weeks, and even more phone calls and emails to this company, I have not heard a word! I am flushing my investment and starting over so that I can actually finalize my jobs while on the road and not in the office.

DO NOT BUY THIS SCANNER.

5 out of 5 eggsplustek M12 Plus

Pros: Works great in XP. My main and actually only purpose for this scanner was to deposit checks online. Been doing this for a couple months now and works.

Cons: Wish the scan quality was alittle. Sometimes like when I try to deposit money order it would not show up clear 'cause of the text style used on the money order. After several tries my bank detects it. For the price and size I can't complain.

Other Thoughts: I would still recommend this for online deposit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Vista 32 bit

Pros: See previous 05/17/06 review

Cons: Unable to directly install M12Plus drivers to Vista Home Premium and have a functional scanner....had to install to Vista using compatibility mode, then scanner worked producing pdf and jpg files.

Other Thoughts: Unzip M12plus driver file, look for "setup" file in unzipped folder and right click, properties, compatibility tab, check the box "run program in compatibility mode for Win XP SP2", apply, ok....go back to "setup" file and install following prompts. Still using this scanner without issues while on the road.

2 out of 5 eggs"Not compatible with vista"

Pros: Nice carry pouch, and compact.

Cons: Will not install on my Windows Vista. Contacted customer support, and they told me to download the latest driver, which I already have; otherwise, I am still not able to install. DO NOT BUY it if you have Vista.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully I can get this to work, but my hopes are out. Still have not heard back (as of three days before this review) from Plustek's customer support after sending my second eMail.
